The State Education Commission, Manipur 1992 observed that “Lack of even the minimum essential facilities in schools particularly elementary schools, is a serious handicap in raising the quality of school education in the state. The State Education Commission, Manipur also reported that the teachers are sore about their low emoluments, poor conditions of service and lack of even essential physical infrastructure and proper teaching-learning environment in most of the schools. The matter calls for serious attention. The objective is to study the overall working conditions of elementary school teachers in the valley districts of Manipur. The investigator selected representative sample of 96 schools from different managements on the basis of stratified cluster sampling technique. Working conditions questionnaire were administered to 600 teachers. It was found 23% of the respondents reported that they do not have toilet facilities. It was reported that 42.17% teachers had insufficient numbers of teachers in their respective schools. Majority of the respondents (59%) reported that salaries were not paid in time. . Majority of the elementary teachers did not have computer knowledge (62.67%). It was also found that 32.5% did not teach their concern subject. In terms of using teaching aids (65.33%) and preparing lesson-plan(100%), the responses were high. 75.67% of teachers reported to have cordial relationship among the teachers. Only 37.33% of teachers have computer knowledge and 14.17% respondents used computer in teaching. In the age of technology the use of computer is a must. In order to ensure that proper teaching learning process to take place, it is important that sufficient number of teachers are made available in the schools. Teachers’ role is central of all processes of education. A teacher is indispensable even in the most well equipped system of education. Teacher to be real manager of class room teaching learning process, must have skills, competence, inclinations and of course entire satisfaction with his job. Richard Wynn states that the following factors contribute to the satisfaction in a career. Intrinsic value of work; Security of life; The right to participate; Recognition and approval; Humane treatment and Self expression. The objective of the study is to find the satisfaction in different dimensions of job satisfaction (Satisfaction with working conditions; Satisfaction with job-content; Satisfaction with management attitude; Satisfaction with student receptivity; and Satisfaction with social predisposition) of teachers of elementary schools in the valley districts of Manipur under different managements viz. Aided, Government and Private maagement. The sample consisted of 600 teachers of elementary schools in the valley districts of Manipur: 268 teachers from 38 elementary schools, 122 teachers from 26 aided schools and 210 teachers from 32 private schools. Job satisfaction Questionnaire was constructed for the survey. The satisfaction with working conditions of the teachers on the areas viz. Intervals at the Right Time, Working Hours Convenient and Sanitation and Hygiene were dependent on the Type of Management. This means that there exists significant difference in these areas with respect to management. The satisfactions with Job content of elementary school teachers in the areas of Salary, Satisfied with Leave Facilities, Satisfied with Chances of Increasing Income and Co-worker praises were significant with respect to management. The satisfaction with management attitude in the areas viz. Job fully secured, Head takes interest in the welfare of the teachers, Chances of promotion and Promotion on the basis of seniority cum merit basis are dependent on the type of management. There exists significant difference in these areas with respect to management. The satisfaction with student receptivity in the areas viz. Students maintain discipline, Students’ attendance, Students understand their responsibilities and Students have friendly attitude were dependent on the Type of Management. However, conservation biologist often uses the term species diversity even when they are actually referring to species richness, i.e. to number of present species (Harrison et al., 2004). Dibrugarh district located in the upper Assam is well known for its biological richness. Similarly, the study area i.e., the Dibrugarh University campus is also having a good number of species diversity. The biological diversity found in the study area is often related to its vegetation cover, which is categorized into evergreen, semi-evergreen, deciduous, semi-deciduous and coniferous/alpine/others. The Botanical garden inside the campus has been considered as one of the protected area covering an area of 4.63 hectares. It is famous for rare, valuable trees, fruits, medicinal herbs etc. Apart from that the north eastern part corner of the campus also having some forest covers including a tea garden. The present study involves identification and mapping of species diversity of prominent tree, grass and herbs in selected quadrants available in the study area. Plant communities are classified according to structure of canopy or type (tree, shrub or herbaceous) and dominance of taxa. The study is mainly based on primary data collected for the field study. For density analysis of species, 15 major species are taken for study and area is divided into 200m X 200m grids. The herbaceous plants are identified and analysis through quadrant method. The major 5 selective site are taken for study includes both grazing and non-grazing. Out of 103 herbaceous species there are 35 major species are identified which prominent inside the study area. These species are again classified into two broad i.e. Annual and Perennial. For canopy cover analysis of trees there are major 100 species are taken and average canopy area was measured.","PeriodicalId":137395,"journal":{"name":"Thematics Journal of Geography","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-08-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129899255","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Datta, Bharti Jaiswal","doi":"10.26643/tjg.v8i8.8139","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.26643/tjg.v8i8.8139","url":null,"abstract":"This paper argues the need and the mechanism to localize the indicators of SDG[Sustainable Development Goals] for Indian Himalayan States in the context of SDG Goal 13 and SDG Goal 15.Goal 13 of the SDG is to take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts while Goal 15 of SDG aims to protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss. These two goals out of the seventeen goals are directly related to environment, ecology and climate change. The Indian Himalayan Region[IHR] being the life sustaining system of millions of people and vast species of flora and fauna in uplands and much more in lowland areas due to its vast bio physical diversity also acts as a climate regulator for the continent. This paper first develops the context arguing why Goal 13 and 15 should be topmost priority for the Indian Himalayan states. The paper then recommends some sequential suggestive steps to develop a schema for monitoring the indicators suggested by UN, MoSPI, NITI Ayog. The paper suggests that the same can be substantiated into actual monitoring mechanism by mapping the relevant Centrally Sponsored Schemes( CSS),State Schemes ( SS) and EAP( Externally Aided Projects)in consonance with such indicators. The paper thus proposes the need for localized implementation of schemes for achieving the Goals and thereafter relevant monitoring of the same considering the basic characteristic of Himalayan states. The paper also insists for the research and study needs to identify the data gaps in each indicator proposed , by taking a case of Uttarakhand as a representative of Himalayan states of India and presents a model on how a Himalayan state should decentralize the monitoring mechanism of each indicator in different departments by following the model of the State of Uttarakhand. The paper finally presents policy asks for achieving those time bound targets by substituting SDG with HDG[Himalayan Development Goal].Indicators of UN, MoSPI, NITI Ayog, DES of Uttarakhand and some other Indian Himalayan states and various state government level departments have been used to carry out the study.","PeriodicalId":137395,"journal":{"name":"Thematics Journal of Geography","volume":"94 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-08-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116501318","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
