Ambulance services have been advised to record the gender identity and sexuality of all patients treated to support monitoring of health equity. Four NHS ambulance services in England were asked for their data showing whether the completed patient record for each incident included gender identity and sexuality. All services responded; data from three were used in the analysis. Only one service had the means to record a patient's sexual orientation. Gender identity was recorded by all services but the rate of data capture as well as potential responses varied between organisations. There was little consistency between the three services regarding rates of data being captured, responses and potential answers. These variations could not be explained, although introduction of electronic patient records may impact data capture and quality.","PeriodicalId":136781,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Paramedic Practice","volume":"49 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139390242","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Most are categorised as simple but they can be complex and carry the risk of complications. They can be frightening for parents. UK guidelines advise against the use of antipyretic drugs to prevent febrile seizure recurrence while being mindful of parental sensitivities. This systematised literature review aimed to appraise the global body of evidence in relation to current guidelines on using conventional antipyretics for the prevention of febrile seizures and explore factors that influence their management. A research question was developed using the PICO (population/participant(s); intervention(s); comparison/control; outcome) framework and two databases were searched for primary research, and abstracts were screened for relevance. Thirty-four articles were identified, or which three were relevant to the research aim. These were critically appraised using the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool and five themes were identified. One study found that paracetamol may prevent recurrent febrile seizures, one found a small reduction in febrile seizure recurrence when treated with an antipyretic and one found antipyretics ineffective at reducing febrile seizure recurrence. Similar contemporary studies conducted in the UK population may help to improve understanding of the factors influencing febrile seizure management and the effectiveness of antipyretics.","PeriodicalId":136781,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Paramedic Practice","volume":"19 5","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139389714","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The COVID-19 pandemic, however, witnessed a sharp rise in their application, with remote clinical consultations in primary, secondary and tertiary care being undertaken using readily available software. Similar applications have supported the implementation of virtual wards, enabling early supported patient discharge, and numerous examples of home health technologies have enabled patients to be monitored remotely for range of health conditions. There are several terms for digital health, including telemedicine, e-health and telecare. While the pandemic contributed to the rise in digital healthcare, many of these technologies have been in existence for several years. This paper will briefly explore the history and evolution of digital health technology and discuss a number of key policies and guidance documents in some detail, including their impact on urgent and prehospital practice.","PeriodicalId":136781,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Paramedic Practice","volume":"7 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139631099","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
