This system had initially three languages in education before Swahili was added in 2006. Since 2013, Burundi has a new educational system with four languages in education. This paper aimed to discuss the so called old education system of Burundi as far as languages in education are concerned. It explores issues related to the Burundian old multilingual educational system. Content materials designed by policy makers for languages of instruction and languages taught as subjects have provided substance for the discussion. Furthermore, documents including language education policy documents, content materials and the existing literature were consulted and analysed through content analysis methods. The way the languages were presented and introduced to learners through the content materials was discussed to understand underlying policy makers’ philosophy about how multilingual education should be carried out to achieve expected multilingual competence in the languages involved. It was realised that the system privileged separation of languages to avoid language transfer in order to achieve expected language competence. Crosslinguistic Transfer (interference) was considered to be a hindrance to language competence development and it was to be avoided both through the content materials and the teaching methods during classroom practices.","PeriodicalId":136675,"journal":{"name":"Asian Journal of Multilingualism and Applied Linguistics","volume":"112 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132685294","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A questionnaire and interview were employed to get the data about the eleventh-grade student's perceptions of rewards in EFL instruction. Then, the interview data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman data analysis, which consists of data condensation, data display, conclusion, and verification. Meanwhile, the data collected through a questionnaire was analyzed using descriptive statistics. The results showed that rewards in EFL instruction could increase students’ motivation in learning as well as make them happy and excited during the learning process. Besides that, students picked words of praise as the reward that could make them happy and followed by any tangible rewards the teachers gave. Several suggestions for future research follow the findings of this study.","PeriodicalId":136675,"journal":{"name":"Asian Journal of Multilingualism and Applied Linguistics","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133022545","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Students' assessments of teachers' teaching styles are therefore critical if we are to get a clear picture of how effective teaching is. There are other ways to gauge how well a teacher is doing her job, but this is an unavoidable concept where the perspectives of both male and female students must be taken into account. As a general rule, each person is unique in his or her thinking, but he or she may also share some commonalities with others. This is true for language learners, too. For the purpose of this study, the researchers surveyed Bangladeshi English language learners at the tertiary level to see if there were any differences or similarities between male and female students' perceptions of teachers' competencies. All 99 students of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU)’s Faculty of Fisheries who took part in the survey to evaluate the quality of their current three English language teachers were included in this study.","PeriodicalId":136675,"journal":{"name":"Asian Journal of Multilingualism and Applied Linguistics","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129368497","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This operator's behavior in the English language is examined. Because this marker is so crucial to the functioning of this English language, a study has concluded. Many people have questioned its origin and status in the linguistic and grammatical fields. The origins of synchronic variation have been inferred from some historical studies, but this hasn't always been the case. By focusing on its function and position in relation to the verb or noun, we've demonstrated that the letter \"S\" can be used as a marker for verbal or noun agreements. A verbal marker is distinct from a noun marker in that it serves an entirely different purpose. However, the focus of the current research is on its status as a marker of verbal agreement.","PeriodicalId":136675,"journal":{"name":"Asian Journal of Multilingualism and Applied Linguistics","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121625060","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are many ways that could be done in learning vocabulary, one of which is by using media. The media used should be able to facilitate students to learn and seize the vocabulary easily, yet enjoyable. Regardless, students may experience their own difficulties in the learning process. The present study focuses on difficulties confronted by foster students in learning English vocabulary through animated videos. Ten foster students of Al-Husna Orphanage, Bandar Lampung were interviewed to discover the difficulties they experienced during the process of learning English vocabulary by using animated videos. A semi-structured interview was employed to investigate the difficulties by developing several questions. The interview data were then analysed descriptively using a qualitative approach to get answers to the research question. It was revealed that the students encountered some difficulties, i.e., mispronunciation, misspelling, difficulties in understanding English words caused by the speakers’ speed; also, the students admitted that there was a lack of exposure to English.","PeriodicalId":136675,"journal":{"name":"Asian Journal of Multilingualism and Applied Linguistics","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134229656","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
