Quantitative bilateral symmetry of a given scene is computed using dynamic programming. In contrast to problems with other methods, the results of the dynamic programming algorithm describe symmetry in terms of an absolute region instead of a relative degree. Vertical symmetry images are generated and symmetry axes are extracted using non-maxima suppression and hysteresis thresholding. For each symmetry image a unique feature vector is obtained as the sum of the gray-values of each column of the image. The usefulness of the proposed feature detection algorithm is shown by a preliminary experiment. In the experiment, the feature vector is used to robustly track motion in an image sequence.","PeriodicalId":136611,"journal":{"name":"2005 IEEE International Conference on Information Acquisition","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132960483","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

But the time delay in communication makes teleoperation system with direct force feedback unstable. In this paper, a novel approach is proposed to create and verify the graphic and dynamic model of the remote physical environment. This model can provide the operator with real-time force feedback which does not depend on the existing time delay in the system. The dynamic parameters of the model are corrected and updated on-line based on information from position and force sensors to keep equal to the remote environment. Then the VR (virtual reality)-based teleoperation system developed in our laboratory is described. Experiments have been done to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.","PeriodicalId":136611,"journal":{"name":"2005 IEEE International Conference on Information Acquisition","volume":"90 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131821180","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In previous research, most of them employed model-based method which requires robot model in advance. However, it is difficult and time-consuming to obtain the precise mathematical model of robots. Moreover, the computer installed on the space robot is usually not so powerful due to the restriction of weight and volume, thus it is infeasible to computer dynamics parameters for real-time control. To facilitate the computation complexity, we present an approach based on human learning skill for tracking and catching objects. With human-teaching demonstration, the space robot is able to learn and abstract human tracking and capturing skill using an efficient neural-network learning architecture that combines flexible cascade neural networks with node-decoupled extended kalman filtering (CNN-NDEKF). The goal of skill learning is to obtain the most likely human performance from all the training examples and to transfer this skill to the space robot system by trained cascade neural network. We investigate the learning position trajectory in Cartesian space and position trajectory in Joint space respectively. Especially, learning position trajectory in joint space is useful to avoid the complex inverse kinematics of space robot and to lower the computation cost. The simulation results attest that this approach is useful and feasible in tracking trajectory planning and capturing of space robot. The proposed approach provides a feasible way to plan the tracking trajectory of space robot by learning human demonstration skill. The learning is significant in eliminating sluggish motion planning and correcting a motion command that the operator may mistakenly generate. It would be found useful in various other applications, such as human action recognition in man-machine interfaces, real-time training, and agile manufacturing.","PeriodicalId":136611,"journal":{"name":"2005 IEEE International Conference on Information Acquisition","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116445786","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For the sake of simplicity, the present paper abbreviates the above-mentioned terminology as \"smartronics\". The paper illustrates smartronics basic concepts for modular intelligent agents design. The paper exhibits the usefulness of smartronics. The paper also considers how to standardize smartronics for optimal intelligent agents. The proposed standardization covers smartronics fundamental attributes. Smartronics is the term encompassing technical fields that include for example the ones, which have become known widely under the names \"smart structures\", and \"intelligent structures\" and known to less extent under the name \"adaptronics structures\". Smartronics is set to be at the forefront of modern technical, civil, and environmental engineering monitoring and protection fusion. The fusion is achieved partially through proper integration of electronics and civil and environmental engineering monitoring and protection. The fusion is hinged at synthesizing smartronics systems. In other words, it integrates civil and environmental engineering monitoring and protection as smartronics systems for optimal artificial intelligent agents leading to first class information acquisition science and engineering.","PeriodicalId":136611,"journal":{"name":"2005 IEEE International Conference on Information Acquisition","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126762018","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Medical radiologists normally describe the tumor in words, making reference to its mass, shape and margins. Meanwhile, pattern recognition specialists have their own methodologies. Since there are significant gaps between two approaches, it has proven to be very difficult for those following the pattern recognition route to directly adapt parameters of mass, shape and margins for the automated recognition of different cancers. This paper describes a joint R&D project of Yunnan University & Yunnan First People's Hospital. A meta-shape tool and conjugate meta-feature clustering technology have been developed. These represent initial steps in the descriptions of mass, shape and margins on the road towards possible automated mammograph image analysis. In this model, ten meta-shape feature clusters are used to provide a systematic means of representing different cancerous symptoms. To indicate potential applications, a group of selected results are outlined to illustrate possible linkages between the two approaches.","PeriodicalId":136611,"journal":{"name":"2005 IEEE International Conference on Information Acquisition","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124244038","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The receptor of the sensor is a polyvinylidene fluoride(PVDF) film placed on the surface of the matrix rubber base. The sensor is pressed against the prostate gland and driven sinusoidally, with a constant amplitude. The voltage signal from the PVDF film is integrated over the sampling period and is used as the output of the sensor for evaluating the stiffness of the pressed prostate gland. The output strength of the sensor is dependent on the relative stiffness of the sensor base rubber to the stiffness of the object prostate gland. Thus, the stiffness of the base rubber is of great importance to make the sensor output maximum and achieve the best discrimination of the normality and abnormality of the organ. The FEM analysis is introduced for the optimum design of sensor, and the best fit stiffness of the matrix rubber base is determined. Verification test is also carried out and good agreement between the analysis and the experimental results is confirmed.","PeriodicalId":136611,"journal":{"name":"2005 IEEE International Conference on Information Acquisition","volume":"74 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128205656","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we explored the acoustical characteristics of voice quality in the emotional speech signals based on numerical parameters, such as Jitter, RAP, Shimmer, APQ, NHR and SPI. In addition, the role of pitch, pitch range and normalized speech duration of the emotional speech was focused. Korean emotional speech database was collected from a professional actor. Nine sentences having different contents were respectively uttered with six different kinds of emotions: neutral, happiness, anger, sadness, fear and boredom. Jitter, RAP, Shimmer, APQ, NHR and SPI were computed respectively after extracting the voiced segment with the vowel /a/ from each emotional sentence. Pitch, pitch range and normalized speech duration of each emotional speech signal were also measured or computed. The statistical analysis based on the changes of these nine sets of different parameters was performed to characterize voice quality of the human emotional speeches.","PeriodicalId":136611,"journal":{"name":"2005 IEEE International Conference on Information Acquisition","volume":"86 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131419188","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
