Methods: The study sample consists of 289 patients diagnosed with alcohol and substance dependence, that have been followed up at inpatient or outpatient units of Ege University, The Institute on Drug Abuse, Toxicology and Pharmaceutical Science and Ege University, Department of Psychiatry Alcohol/Drug Dependency Unit. In the study, sociodemographic data form, Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), the Temperament and Character Inventory (TCI), Experiences in Close Relationships Inventory (ECRI) were applied by means of face to face interviews. Results: The mean age of the patients in the study was 32.5±11.0 years. It was found that 76.8% of the patients had high levels of depressive symptoms (BDI>17). It was determined that there was a significant difference between the level of avoidant attachment scores and depressive symptoms scores of the patients. In the evaluation of TCI scores according to BDI cut-off scores, it was found that depressive patients (BDI>17) have significant differences on the harm avoidance, cooperate and self-transcendence scores than those non-depressive patients (BDI<17). Conclusion: Our study showed that certain personality and bonding characteristics of the patient affected the depressive symptoms levels.","PeriodicalId":136580,"journal":{"name":"Düşünen Adam: The Journal of Psychiatry and Neurological Sciences","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116621961","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Evaluating irrational beliefs and the psychological symptoms of sexually revictimized adolescents would be useful in determination of the victims and in preventing the SR. This descriptive study examined irrational beliefs and psychological symptoms of the adolescents who have been exposed to SR, one-time sexual abuse (SA) and those who have not been exposed to SA. Methods: Participants were 210 adolescent girls who are aged between 15-18. The data was collected via the Brief Symptom Inventory and the Irrational Belief Scale-Adolescent Form, and a one-way ANOVA was utilized for data analysis. Results: No significant difference has been determined in the mean irrational belief scores of the adolescents with respect to sexual abuse victimization. However, it was found that the psychological symptoms—such as depression, negative self-perception, somatization, hostility—of the adolescents exposed to SR are higher than the comparison group and the ones who have been exposed to one-time SA. The anxiety symptom scores of the adolescents who have been exposed to SR was significantly higher than the adolescents in the comparison group, and was similar with with the adolescents in SA group. It was determined that the group who have been exposed to one time SA, have higher mean scores of anxiety, depression, negative self-perception and somatization than the comparison group. Conclusion: Different psychological problems can be seen in adolescents who have been exposed to SR and one-time SA. It is believed that taking into account of such differences may be helpful in the process of the treatment of victims.","PeriodicalId":136580,"journal":{"name":"Düşünen Adam: The Journal of Psychiatry and Neurological Sciences","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128714657","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A sociodemographic and clinical data form, Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (CTQ), Dissociative Experiences Scale (DES), Somatoform Dissociation Questionnaire (SDQ) and Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) were administered to participants. \u0000Results: Emotional abuse, physical neglect, physical abuse, CTQ total, SDQ and DES scores were found to be significantly higher in the fibromyalgia group than the control group. Only the difference for SDQ scores remained significant when a comparison made between groups by controlling depression levels. Somatoform dissociation scores were found to be a significant predictor of pain intensity in patients with fibromyalgia. \u0000Conclusion: Somatoform dissociative symptoms are found to be higher in patients with fibromyalgia than the control group. These symptoms may contribute to development and exacerbation of pain in fibromyalgia. Taking the dissociative symptoms into account have an important role in the treatment of patients with fibromyalgia who have a frequent history of CT, so the treatment of these patients should be carried out in cooperation with psychiatrists.","PeriodicalId":136580,"journal":{"name":"Düşünen Adam: The Journal of Psychiatry and Neurological Sciences","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133565429","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, prolonged (>6 months) grief can serve as a ground for a pathological situation. According to DSM-5, persistent complex bereavement disorder (PCBD) is diagnosed if the grief period exceeds twelve months. If this grief experience accompanies a traumatic event, DSM-5 Appendix recommends including Traumatic Death Specifier. In the process of PCBD, there can be several symptoms such as decreased functionality, sleep disorders, depressed mood, guilt feelings, somatic disorders and denial of the death. Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) is one of the treatment methods for PCBD. In this study, two cases diagnosed with PCDB and recovered apparently with a time-limited EMDR treatment are presented.","PeriodicalId":136580,"journal":{"name":"Düşünen Adam: The Journal of Psychiatry and Neurological Sciences","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127571507","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

According to the previous studies, it is known that about one third of children who are subjected to abuse may become abusers in the future. In such a condition, a dilemma of abuse-abuser has been experienced. Importantly, additional medical mistakes and lack of experience make legal evaluation processes more complex. A pediatric patient who was abused by her babysitter and had a history of abuse in her adolescence is discussed in this case report. Early recognition of sexual abuse, treatment of developing psychiatric disorders and a follow up program are necessary in order to minimize the vicious cycle of abused-abuser.","PeriodicalId":136580,"journal":{"name":"Düşünen Adam: The Journal of Psychiatry and Neurological Sciences","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123906102","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is induced by the contact of very hot water to head while having a shower. Complex partial or generalized tonic-clonic seizures can be seen. Anxiety disorder is one of the most frequent psychiatric comorbidities that accompany epilepsy. It may negatively impact the quality of life and treatment compliance of epilepsy patients. In this article, a case that developed anxiety disorder subsequent to generalized tonic-clonic seizure, induced by hot water contact, was discussed. Increasing the awareness of the association of epilepsy and anxiety disorder is aimed.","PeriodicalId":136580,"journal":{"name":"Düşünen Adam: The Journal of Psychiatry and Neurological Sciences","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127313527","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This leads to time lags in diagnosis and treatment. Here we describe a woman diagnosed as organic delusional parasitosis secondary to her comorbid diabetes mellitus, hypertension and hypothyroidism. Treatment with low dose risperidone was found to be effective in a short span of time. This case is noteworthy as it emphasizes the importance of consultation-liaison psychiatry in the management of delusional parasitosis.","PeriodicalId":136580,"journal":{"name":"Düşünen Adam: The Journal of Psychiatry and Neurological Sciences","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128873245","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
