The chimney is designed for 100 mph winds, earthquakes, direct hits by tornados, and a resonant wind force. Due to the proximity of the chimney to important structures, any possibility of it breaking near its based and falling on those structures had to be eliminated. A weaker section is therefore designed into its upper portion. A catastrophic wind force would then collapse the upper portion prior to a possible destruction of the lower part. Both the working stress design specified by the chimney code and an ultimate strength design are used.","PeriodicalId":136288,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Power Division","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114657212","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The wide interest in real but intangible benefits may have diverted attention from the value that will justify the construction of pumped storage capacity namely, low load factor peaking capacity. The wide acceptance of heavy energy penalties applied to pumped storage has also worked against this factor. Careful evaluations of this penalty considering lifetime load factors of thermal equipment with and without pumped storage may show the penalty to be small and, in some cases, a credit.","PeriodicalId":136288,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Power Division","volume":"194 ","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134160977","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This requires that design consideration be given to the natural frequency of the trashrack bars and the forcing frequency due to the velocity of the fluid through the trashrack. The natural frequency of a trashrack bar is primarily dependent upon the material, cross sectional configuration, unrestrained length and the end fixity. The forcing frequency, due to flow considerations, is primarily dependent upon the velocity of the fluid and the cross sectional configuration of the bar. The fundamental consideration is to design a trashrack with the natural frequency of the bars sufficiently higher than the forcing frequency to prevent a resonant condition from developing.","PeriodicalId":136288,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Power Division","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129087144","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
