The purpose of this study was to determine the role of Africanisation in promoting the formalisation of the ASM sector of South Africa. Due to the acute lack of employment and other challenges associated with ASM, it is important to ensure that the sector is properly formalised to allow communities benefits fully whilst minimising any negative impacts emerging from ASM. Data for this qualitative exploratory research was collected using semi-structured questionnaires from 15 participants. Thematic analysis of the data collected revealed several themes that suggest that considering some tenets of Africanisation can improve formalisation outcomes. These tenets include collectivism and the Ubuntu philosophy. This approach, which has not been actively pursued in previous formalisation initiatives, is a rival to capitalism. This is because the broader community will be the target for the formalisation attempts, not individuals. Adopting the recommendation advanced in this study will allow responsible authorities to manage mineral flows, and environmental damage, as well as to effectively monitor the activities of the AS miners. This study presents a new framework for governing the ASM sector. This framework, which is based on Africanisation, is believed to help address some of the challenges brought about by the neo-colonial aspect of capitalism. Africanisation challenges capitalism because it is concerned with uplifting entire communities, not individuals. This makes community engagement integral to the formalisation of the ASM sector.","PeriodicalId":13462,"journal":{"name":"Indonesian Journal of Community Engagement","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134885041","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In addition, JSP also encourages the development of potentials in the Special Region of Yogyakarta. Several digital applications have been developed to support JSP including mobile and web-based applications. These applications are very important to realize the five dimensions of JSP, namely smart living, smart culture, smart society, smart environment, and smart governance. However, there are some serious problems that threaten the sustainability of JSP, including cyber-attacks on JSP applications. Therefore, this community engagement activity carried out by the Department of Electrical Engineering and Informatics, Vocational College of Universitas Gadjah Mada aims to perform penetration testing of applications owned by JSP. This community engagement activity is in partnership with the Communication and Informatics Office of Special Region of Yogyakarta, which is authorized to manage JSP applications. Some applications targeted for penetration testing include Jogja Istimewa, Visiting Jogja, e-Prima, BiroHukum, Paperless, Jogjaplan, LPSE, Peladen, Sadewa, Jogjaprov, and Simpeg2. By doing penetration testing on these applications, the potential vulnerabilities found in JSP applications can be identified. Furthermore, several suggestions or recommendations are proposed to improve the resilience of JSP applications from potential cyber-attacks.","PeriodicalId":13462,"journal":{"name":"Indonesian Journal of Community Engagement","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134885042","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This development will align with and answer the challenge of establishing Borobudur as a National Tourism Strategic Area (KSPN). Several areas in the Borobudur KSPN that fall into the Menoreh hills have high potential as natural tourist destinations, especially viewpoint and spring. Development is directed towards conservation-based tourism with educational content to increase the selling value. Giripurno Village is one of the Borobudur KSPN villages located in the Menoreh hills and has a potential tourism support infrastructure. The development is carried out by structuring the spring area as a tourist attraction to complement the activities of guests staying at the homestay. The spring area is laid out using lightweight, flexible, yet solid designs and building materials. The existence of spring objects that are arranged sustainably will provide additional activities for visiting tourists. However, the phenomenon in Indonesia shows that the support given to cadres in efforts to promote hypertension still needs to be higher. This article describes the community service program, especially health cadres empowerment in Tanjung Sub-villages, Sewon, Special Region of Yogyakarta, to optimize the capabilities of health cadres in promoting health and preventing disease. The methods to determine the lack in community used observation, interviews, and surveys. Then action planning was carried out by including cadres, primary health care services Sewon II, head of sub-village, village youth organization in Plan of Action (PoA). Implementation of the program was held in May 2023. The descriptive analysis was used for analyzing the preliminary surveys. The Wilcoxon test was carried out to measure cadres' knowledge before and after the program was held as an evaluation. There are two main programs for empowering health cadres in this community: health cadre training and hypertension exercise to increase cadres' innovation in doing exercise for the community. Both of these programs have been proven to increase the knowledge and understanding of cadres about hypertension, as well as improve the ability of cadres to carry out health screening and lead hypertension exercises. Based on the results of the Wilcoxon test, the pre-test, and post-test values yielded a Z value of -2.375 and a sig value of 0.018, indicating that there is an influence of the presentation of hypertension on the knowledge and understanding of the cadres. Community acceptance of this program runs well and the Tanjung Sub-Village’s Cadres independently is able to carry out health screening of non-communicable diseases, especially hypertension in their monthly Integrated Healthcare Center (Posyandu) program in the future.","PeriodicalId":13462,"journal":{"name":"Indonesian Journal of Community Engagement","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134885050","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The national prevalence of stunting in children under 5 years is 9 million children out of 24.5 million children. Factors that contribute to stunting include poor feeding and sanitation practices. The purpose of this community service is to provide education to health cadres in the Jaya Mekar Health Center area, West Bandung, regarding parental feeding practices as an effort to prevent stunting. The community service method is to provide education to health cadres through parental feeding booklets. This community service was carried out for 1 day, 10-10-2022, with 26 RW represented by 36 cadres in the Jaya Mekar Public Health Center area, Bandung Barat. The benefits of Community Service are expected after the cadres know about parental feeding, then it becomes a cadre education strategy for mothers (community) about how to give good food for children. The result of this education increases the knowledge of cadres significantly (0.019; 0.001) before and after providing education about parental feeding, then it becomes a cadre education strategy for mothers about how to give good food to children. Recommendations are needed for further programs to monitor cadres in providing education to mothers.","PeriodicalId":13462,"journal":{"name":"Indonesian Journal of Community Engagement","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134886153","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This area is traversed by the Ciujung River, which is one source of irrigation for both agriculture and Fisheries. The main problem of the Tirtayasa Village community is the lack of awareness of healthy and clean living, especially the problem of waste and the use of river water for daily needs. The communication Model used in this dedication through the application of the concepts of the theory of behaviourism by J.B. Watson, with an educative message and delivered persuasively as well as pre-test and post-test related to the knowledge and desire of the community to live clean and healthy with significantly improved results. The results of the activities in Tirtayasa Village are first the procurement of waste disposal sites so that people no longer throw garbage in the river, second the source of clean water for daily needs, especially for consumption, third coordination and cooperation between the local government and companies or factories that are indicated to drain waste into the river.","PeriodicalId":13462,"journal":{"name":"Indonesian Journal of Community Engagement","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134885037","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Low public awareness of stunting and low family income are two major causes discovered especially in Special District of Yogyakarta. This community service project was undertaken to address this issue. Following the completion of the situation analysis and problem identification, a community-based problem-solving strategy in the form of health and entrepreneurship education was developed. Three medical experts provided prenatal health education to pregnant women, followed by an ultrasound screening to detect any early anomalies related with stunting. For other members of the community, experienced entrepreneurs give entrepreneurial education, which is supported by workshops for them to immediately practice the material that has been presented. It is intended that the community's excitement would raise health awareness about stunting and the level of the local economy, allowing the stunting problem in this region to be rectified.","PeriodicalId":13462,"journal":{"name":"Indonesian Journal of Community Engagement","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134885038","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To support the health status of santri (students at the Islamic boarding school), Islamic boarding schools need to facilitate them through Pos kesehatan pesantren or Poskestren (Islamic Boarding School Health Center). The purpose of this community service was to establish a Poskestren at an Islamic boarding school. The methods adopted in this community service included advocacy, education, socialization, promotion, and empowerment for santri. This program involved the Faculty of Public Health of Universitas Sriwijaya, Talang Pangeran Health Center, village officials, and the selected Islamic boarding school. The Poskestren was established at the Kampung At-Tauhid Islamic boarding school, Ogan Ilir, on July 2022. The result of this community service showed the establishment of a Poskestren was supported by all parties, and a special room was provided for this health service with the necessary facilities and infrastructure at the Kampung At-Tauhid Islamic Boarding School. In addition, this community service also established Kader Santri Husada (Santri Husada Cadre) consisting of nine santri who had been trained by the campus and community health center regarding emergencies, use of medical devices, personal hygiene, and prevention of sexually deviant behavior. It is expected that the Poskestren can provide services for all communities at the Islamic boarding school on an ongoing basis. It is also expected that the Islamic boarding school and community health center can continue the development of this Poskestren service.","PeriodicalId":13462,"journal":{"name":"Indonesian Journal of Community Engagement","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134886154","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
