The proposed system can be operated in three modes: full electric, full thermal and hybrid. The main feature of this system in hybrid mode is the possibility to follow two distinct set-points: one for the propeller shaft speed and one for the electric energy to be generated. The paper introduces the basic configuration and the principle of operation of the system and illustrates a case study with the description of the operating limits of the system.","PeriodicalId":134406,"journal":{"name":"Electrical Systems for Aircraft, Railway and Ship Propulsion","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121882680","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

At first a brief overview about calculation-formulas and standards is given. Furthermore the most important limits for induced pipe potentials regarding short time- (short circuit currents) and long time interference (normal operation traction currents) of the electric railway are mentioned. In a next step the effectiveness of potential mitigation measures as earthing systems, isolating joints and compensation (reduction) conductors are shown and described mathematically.","PeriodicalId":134406,"journal":{"name":"Electrical Systems for Aircraft, Railway and Ship Propulsion","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129328925","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Also, final tests of on-ship power systems and generation are simplified considerably. Fault scenarios on-ship and within the harbour grid and the variability of the parameters of on-ship distribution — each ship is special, and large consumers or generators are switched on and off — require fast and robust control. Oszillations in the filters ship-side and harbour-grid-side of the power electronics may result from transients — and can be mitigated by the advanced control schemes. The paper introduces the a flux-based control concept and applies it to the typical structure of a shoreside power supply system, verifying excellent characteristics and robustness even under asymmetric fault conditions by simulation. The quality of the simulation results is cerified by comparison to laboratory experiments.","PeriodicalId":134406,"journal":{"name":"Electrical Systems for Aircraft, Railway and Ship Propulsion","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115430937","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The paper first describes the main characteristics of the equipment installed, the design criteria and power supply scheme. The paper goes on to outline the challenges of power quality associated with the connection of a heavy single phase load to the Medium Voltage (MV) network. The effectiveness of the installation and the evaluation of voltage unbalance compatibility levels compliance are then presented.","PeriodicalId":134406,"journal":{"name":"Electrical Systems for Aircraft, Railway and Ship Propulsion","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123430157","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A complete mathematical model of the total system has been developed. The dynamic model of the SEIG using a three-phase star-connected induction machine is developed based on stationary reference frame d-q axes theory, with three capacitors connected in series and parallel with the single-phase load. The effect of cross-saturation is also incorporated in the model. The implemented ELC consists of a rectifier-chopper system feeding a resistive dump load whose power consumption is varied through the duty cycle of the chopper. Simulated results are compared with the experimental ones, obtained on a developed prototype of an SEIG-ELC system for the different transient conditions such as sudden application of load, sudden removal of load to validate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.","PeriodicalId":134406,"journal":{"name":"Electrical Systems for Aircraft, Railway and Ship Propulsion","volume":"110 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124677283","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Multiple approaches to study such a phenomenon have been introduced. One of the proposed impedance-based methods makes use of dq-decomposition of signals — a technique that is commonly used for three-phase systems. Such a representation results in a multiple-input multiple-output control system. In the present article, this complex control loop is studied using well-established control-theory techniques, such as the Nyquist criterion. A stability criterion is proposed and tested on a sample system.","PeriodicalId":134406,"journal":{"name":"Electrical Systems for Aircraft, Railway and Ship Propulsion","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131259244","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main reasons are the problems related to advanced approaches — namely complexity and the high time effort of the necessary stability prove and the design process. In observer and control design, the special characteristics of power-electronic systems are often neglected. The robustness and the quality — especially of the state estimations of the observer — can be improved by the pole-restraining observer (PRO) approach. In this paper, the novel approach is introduced and the mathematical background is given. The approach is applied to a single-phase converter. Simulation results illustrate the quality of the resulting estimated signals.","PeriodicalId":134406,"journal":{"name":"Electrical Systems for Aircraft, Railway and Ship Propulsion","volume":"101 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132332751","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to the long cable connections, the use of very line friendly line-side converter topologies and control concepts is a must. The minimization of the torque ripple is the main requirement of the speed-variable drive in order to guarantee safety and comfort issues. Further requirements are relevant in context of redundancy. In this paper, a power-chain topology for a cable car drive system is suggested which fulfils the introduced requirements. Furthermore, control concepts for both, line-side and driveside converters, are presented. A 200 kW laboratory set-up is presented.","PeriodicalId":134406,"journal":{"name":"Electrical Systems for Aircraft, Railway and Ship Propulsion","volume":"162 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133804884","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The eco efficiency could be enlarged by this technology. The dynamic characteristic of fuel cell systems necessitates an adaption of the electrical system. Using short time energy storage power delivery can be extended, demonstrated by a Matlab Simulink Simpower-Systems simulation with two scenarios. The first one is a 3 s storage for load step compensation. The second one is an exemplification of an electrical main engine start with energy storage. This could reduce the fuel cell weight. This paper compares three possible energy storage technologies to consider the requirements and it checks market availability.","PeriodicalId":134406,"journal":{"name":"Electrical Systems for Aircraft, Railway and Ship Propulsion","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124748674","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
