For SoS engineers, it is important to verify the results of the collaboration for an SoS goal. Statistical verification can be used to verify a large and complex SoS and to provide quantitative verification results. However, even when a failure of an SoS goal or a violation of a verification property is detected, it often requires a huge cost to find faults of an SoS because of the size of the SoS and the lack of information about independent CSs. In this paper, we propose a fault localization technique for an SoS to reduce the debugging cost by prioritizing suspicious entities of an SoS. This technique requires only an abstract model of the collaboration, named as a collaboration graph, which includes the presence or absence of CSs and their interactions. It extends a spectrum-based fault localization (SBFL) technique to utilize quantitative results of the statistical verification of an SoS. In the evaluation, we show that it is feasible to apply SBFL to SoS fault localization, and our approach is expected to effectively reduce the debugging space of an SoS.","PeriodicalId":133413,"journal":{"name":"2019 14th Annual Conference System of Systems Engineering (SoSE)","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132926555","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to the growing vehicle fleet in the cities, the management of parking spaces has become very important and with it the interest in developing smart parking systems that promote the efficient and intensive use of information and communication technologies. This work presents the design and development of a smart vehicular presence sensor (SPIN-V, in its Spanish acronym), which is the cornerstone of a smart parking system (SEI-UVM, in its Spanish acronym). The SPIN-V is composed by a distance sensor and a camera to detect the entry of a vehicle to the parking space, and a LED indicator to inform that space has been reserved through a mobile application. Information on the occupation of the parking spaces is sent in real time to the monitoring center. The SPIN-V allows the efficient management of parking spaces generating a saving of time in the search while reducing vehicular traffic.","PeriodicalId":133413,"journal":{"name":"2019 14th Annual Conference System of Systems Engineering (SoSE)","volume":"106 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131622511","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The suppliers in this industry have traditionally been tailor-making their systems for each delivery project. To improve the systems offering across the client and project portfolio, the suppliers must put more effort in the conceptual phase to explore the design space. Architectural reasoning is the process of transferring problem and solution know-how into a new systems architecture. In this paper we review literature on architectural reasoning in the conceptual phase, and on application in the oil and gas industry. To evaluate the use of architectural reasoning in the industry, we perform a case study in a subsea supplier company. From the case study, we are identifying a work-flow for architectural reasoning, utilizing the market needs, design, and domain knowledge to evolve the system. Evaluating the tools and working methods, we find that working in a multi-disciplinary team is key to support the reasoning process. We find that the team is utilizing the design and domain knowledge to improve the system architecture. However, the team lacks methods to make this knowledge explicit and to quantify the issues they are identifying.","PeriodicalId":133413,"journal":{"name":"2019 14th Annual Conference System of Systems Engineering (SoSE)","volume":"290 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114154012","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The architectural configuration may change as new CS may join SoS and/or existing CS may leave SoS at runtime. These architectural configuration changes have affect on the overall system quality attributes (i.e. performance, security and reliability). Therefore, modelling SoS architecture is a challenging task as CSs and the possible architectural configurations are not entirely known at design time. Architectural description languages (ADLs) have been proposed and used to deal with SoS dynamic architecture. However, we still envision gaps to be bridged and challenges to be addressed in the forthcoming years. This paper outline a taxonomy for modeling SoS and provides a broad discussion on the state-of-the-art modeling notations to model and analyze SoS architectural configuration. An SoS case is presented to explain the impact of architectural configurational changes on the SoS properties. Besides, we also discuss challenges and future directions to be overcome in the forthcoming years.","PeriodicalId":133413,"journal":{"name":"2019 14th Annual Conference System of Systems Engineering (SoSE)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124834250","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Reliability analysis of power distribution systems (PDS) of data center evokes representing a system as collection of subsystems to characterize the reliability of each part of the whole system. Therefore, understanding of reliability at the component level is fundamental to develop accurate estimate of system reliability and prevent system failures. Moreover, realization in the component level help to estimate overall investment of each systems topology. To improve system reliability, it can perform through redundant topology, however redundant components and systems is increasing investment and complexity of data center system. Balancing between cost of downtime and cost of reliability can be differed from business to business. This research purpose optimal method analysis (OMA) to quantify the proper investment against the cost of data center downtime.","PeriodicalId":133413,"journal":{"name":"2019 14th Annual Conference System of Systems Engineering (SoSE)","volume":"63 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114336217","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Especially within infrastructure systems of systems and the applications of the internet of things, data became an asset for additional tasks regarding their efficient and effective operations, e.g., predictive maintenance which lowers the total costs of ownership. Many of these tasks are well supported by digital twins but building such digital replicas of systems and processes within a system of system is complicated by that context, e.g., due to the managerial independence of the contributing systems that often restricts available information and data sharing. We discuss these challenges together with strategies and architectures that address them and illustrate this digital twin perspective on cyber physical systems and the internet of things with examples from the smart grid and smart building domain.","PeriodicalId":133413,"journal":{"name":"2019 14th Annual Conference System of Systems Engineering (SoSE)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115109280","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The navigators make decision to avoid collision, and recognize the navigational situations from their information. In the other word, they manage the safe harbor traffic to control by giving the useful information. We think that their mental and physical workload shows the current and near future harbor traffic condition, and to monitor their workloads leads safe harbor control. In this study, we aim the development of monitoring system for port coordinators as the system of systems toward safe harbor traffic, and we measure ECG, body accelerations, and etc. The measured data read the mental and physical workload for the real situations of the harbor traffic. The results show the heart rate variability (R-R interval) and body accelerations read their mental and physical workload, and that displayed performance is well in the real time.","PeriodicalId":133413,"journal":{"name":"2019 14th Annual Conference System of Systems Engineering (SoSE)","volume":"15 3","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"113971393","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A high degree of uncertainty and ambiguity characterizes this early phase. Early validation of user needs is assumed to be a key for successful value creation in the early phase development of new systems. The user needs can be difficult to understand and subject to change due to the ambiguous nature of the innovation process. Systems Thinking is a mindset that increases understanding of the system's context and behavior; it helps identifying possible leverage points. This paper applies Systems Thinking methodology in a real case for an industrial project adding renewable energy to offshore installations. We developed in this research graphical presentations to communicate system openness and user needs for the operational phase of the system. The graphical presentations were tested out on stakeholders. We found the Systems Thinking methodology and the graphical presentations to be helpful tools for successful stakeholder communication with the purpose of early validation of user needs.","PeriodicalId":133413,"journal":{"name":"2019 14th Annual Conference System of Systems Engineering (SoSE)","volume":"245 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133903748","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is based on the threat of retaliation and requires systems that can either be triggered after an enemy attack is launched and before the destructive capability is destroyed or systems that can survive an initial attack and be launched in response. During the Cold War, the weapons of mutual assured destructions were nuclear. However, with the incredible reliance on computers for everything from power generation control to banking to agriculture logistics, a cyber attack mutual assured destruction scenario is plausible. This paper presents this concept and considers the deterrent need, to prevent such a crippling attack from ever being launched, from a system of systems perspective.","PeriodicalId":133413,"journal":{"name":"2019 14th Annual Conference System of Systems Engineering (SoSE)","volume":"379 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132152438","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
