Then, we benefit from these features to train a machine learning algorithm to predict the availability of the channels for intelligent spectrum access for a vehicle. The main component of the vehicular interference monitoring system is an ultra wideband programmable 26GHz Agilent E4407 spectrum analyzer, interfaced with a GPS device to record the location of measurements, and a laptop to store the results in a centralized database. With this measurement system loaded in a car we drive in a selected path to monitor the interference in 1.9-2.5 GHz frequency band, which includes high traffic density neighboring licensed and unlicensed bands. With the empirical monitored interference, we study the statistical behavior of fourteen interference features logically categorized into four classes: interference intensity, correlation properties, spectrum occupancy, and Doppler spectrum in licensed and unlicensed bands. Finally, We benefit from these features to train a machine learning algorithm to predict the availability of the licensed and unlicensed bands for vehicular network access to the fixed backbone network infrastructure.","PeriodicalId":132845,"journal":{"name":"2023 IEEE 24th International Symposium on a World of Wireless, Mobile and Multimedia Networks (WoWMoM)","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116922349","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Existing solutions focus on model simplification and task offloading to compute-capable edge servers. The former often leads to performance degradation, whereas the latter requires the transfer of information-rich signals and is subject to the impairments of wireless channels. To address these issues, a framework that establishes a novel form of collaboration between mobile devices and edge servers is proposed herein. The core idea is to deploy lightweight models on mobile devices that are intelligently updated to match the current, and local, distribution of the samples being observed. The framework develops the temporal patterns of the samples to determine the optimal model update policy, as well as channel resources allocated to the mobile users. The performance of the proposed framework is evaluated via extensive experiments with both synthetic and real-world datasets.","PeriodicalId":132845,"journal":{"name":"2023 IEEE 24th International Symposium on a World of Wireless, Mobile and Multimedia Networks (WoWMoM)","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126960216","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are great uncertainty and unpredictability in VANETs due to rapid vehicle movement and changeable road conditions, which makes designing a Quality of Service (QoS) aware data forwarding protocol for VANETs remain a significant challenge. In this paper, A novel fuzzy decision based data forwarding scheme is proposed to meet the QoS requirements of high reliability and low latency. Unlike the existing routing methods, fuzzy information instead of raw vehicular data is used for data forwarding decisions. Besides, fuzzy decision strategies based on fuzzy non-dominate optimization and fuzzy rules are devised for selecting roads at junctions and determining relay vehicles at edge vehicles. Experimental results show that our fuzzy forwarding scheme achieves desirable QoS performance in terms of packet arrival rate, end-to-end delay and communication overhead.","PeriodicalId":132845,"journal":{"name":"2023 IEEE 24th International Symposium on a World of Wireless, Mobile and Multimedia Networks (WoWMoM)","volume":"235 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122951532","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, present swarming drones’ stand-alone centralized radio frequency control mode from a base station has non-trivial drawbacks such as severe interference, latency caused localization error, etc. Differently, optical camera communication (OCC) is promising as an alternative for integrated communication and sensing for swarming drones. We propose PoseFly, the first 4-in-1 OCC approach for swarming drones. With exploited rolling shutter effect and the already installed camera and LED nodes, PoseFly provides (1) massive drone indication and identification, (2) multilevel on-site localization, (3) quick-link channel among drones, and (4) basic lighting. The design methodology of PoseFly gives a valuable example for the low-cost integrated sensing and communication for swarming drones.","PeriodicalId":132845,"journal":{"name":"2023 IEEE 24th International Symposium on a World of Wireless, Mobile and Multimedia Networks (WoWMoM)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129279611","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This challenge can be addressed by developing an ultra-low latency packet delivery service among the tightly coupled processing nodes of a CN simulator. Given that CN is a rapidly evolving field, constant updates are inevitable during the life of a CN simulator. Hence, a digital twin network for CN simulators is crucial as it can enable low-cost prototyping to keep their network up to date with ever-changing requirements caused by advances in CN. To this end, we have developed a framework to replicate the dynamic network behavior of potential CN simulators. The core of our framework is based on high-end FPGA boards with high data rate transceivers, enabling emulation of various network architectures with different topologies and executed protocols. The precise dynamic behavior of the FPGA-based digital twin provides accurate modeling and reliable assessments of real-time dynamics. To expedite the exploration and prototyping process, we use the FPGA cluster in conjunction with in-house software-based network simulators. Our initial evaluations based on the developed software network simulators resulted in an overestimation of network performance. However, after calibration, our results demonstrate the potential of our approach in addressing complex problems such as assessing large-scale networks.","PeriodicalId":132845,"journal":{"name":"2023 IEEE 24th International Symposium on a World of Wireless, Mobile and Multimedia Networks (WoWMoM)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130089501","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Its comparably low data rates still suffice for many IoT applications, while communication ranges of several kilometers can be accomplished. Due to their wireless nature, LoRa data transmissions become unreliable when the distance between sender and receiver approaches the limit at which the signal-to-noise ratio falls below the receiver’s sensitivity. Furthermore, reliability can also be hampered by rough environmental conditions, like heavy rain or high humidity levels, both of which can have attenuating effects on the wireless signal propagation. While the Forward Error Correction in LoRa can compensate for sporadic bit errors, its overall efficacy is limited. To prevent data loss even in adverse weather conditions, alternative methods need to be found to maintain the reliability of communications. One such approach is the use of Constructive Interference, i.e., the concurrent transmission of identical LoRa packets by multiple transmitting stations. As the required clock synchronization is hard to accomplish, however, fully constructive LoRa data transmissions are virtually impossible in practice. In this paper, we hence present two modulation techniques (based on On–Off Keying and Pulse Width Modulation) that take advantage of constructive interference periods occurring in concurrent transmissions to increase the range and thus make a Wireless Sensor Network better usable in emergency scenarios. We present their implementation on actual LoRa transceivers and analyze the resulting signal’s characteristics. Our first experimental results prove the viability of our concept, and show that data can be modulated and demodulated without the knowledge of the actual LoRa message.","PeriodicalId":132845,"journal":{"name":"2023 IEEE 24th International Symposium on a World of Wireless, Mobile and Multimedia Networks (WoWMoM)","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117143052","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In such scenarios, without the availability of static base stations and their wireline backhauls, community of stranded users can access contents from a network of static and traveling UAVs. A set of relatively static anchor UAVs with vertical as well as lateral links can provide content access to its local users. A set of ferrying UAVs with only lateral links, but with wider mobility, can provision content to users while visiting different communities of users. The objective is to design a content dissemination system that handles user demand heterogeneity while maximizing content availability to the requesting users. This work proposes a popularity-based caching policy which tackles heterogeneity in content popularity across a disaster region. A novel value-based caching policy is developed which considers the popularity and the tolerable access delay of the content requests from the users to make caching decisions. The paper develops a novel approach called Joint Deployment of Ferrying UAVs (JDFU) Algorithm to exploit the collective storage of ferrying UAVs which boosts content distribution for users. Through analytical modeling and simulation experiments it is demonstrated that content availability can be maximized by choosing an optimal cache storage segmentation factor, JDFU configuration and hover time of ferrying UAVs. This analysis is done for different user-specified tolerable access delay, heterogeneous popularity distributions and intercommunity geographical characteristics. The paper does functional verification and performance evaluation of the proposed caching framework under a wide range of network size, UAV distribution, content popularity, and ferrying UAV trajectories.","PeriodicalId":132845,"journal":{"name":"2023 IEEE 24th International Symposium on a World of Wireless, Mobile and Multimedia Networks (WoWMoM)","volume":"27 517 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126168075","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The result must be returned within a specified latency deadline in order to be useful. Since not all BSs are equipped with a computing facility, some end-users may be disadvantaged, because they are associated with a BS from which the delay for a service request to reach a computing facility and for the results of the computation to come back is longer. Aiming at uniform end-user satisfaction, network operators should strive to on the one hand reduce differences in achieved end-user performance, while on the other obtain an efficient use of network resources. With simple analytical models we investigate the effectiveness of light network management algorithms, consisting in carefully choosing the routing probabilities of service requests toward one of the available computing facilities. We argue that at least some of such light network management algorithms should be compatible with the very stringent European Network Neutrality rules, and we show that they allow a good trade-off between overall resource utilization and equal performance experienced by end-users.","PeriodicalId":132845,"journal":{"name":"2023 IEEE 24th International Symposium on a World of Wireless, Mobile and Multimedia Networks (WoWMoM)","volume":"114 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124784979","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Recently, Digital Twin became a trend in network planning, management, operation, and optimization as it demonstrated its value in managing complex systems, and for that reason it can be a disruptive technology for the future generations of communication networks. In this work we propose a Network Digital Twin to improve experimentation and verification frameworks, to reduce the lead time required for validating a new business use case using 6G technology. We describe a concrete use case, a Digital Twin of the private part of a Non-Public Network and how Digital Twin concepts helps to improve the deployment time and the observability of a new network segment, integrated with existing experimentation facilities.","PeriodicalId":132845,"journal":{"name":"2023 IEEE 24th International Symposium on a World of Wireless, Mobile and Multimedia Networks (WoWMoM)","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128368488","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
