As a device without dc link elements, the ac line side disturbances can degrade its output characteristic and reliability, even deteriorate the drive performance of motor load. In this paper, the behaviors of the MC drive under abnormal input voltage conditions, in terms of unbalance, nonsinusoidal and short-time voltage sag, have been investigated. A feedback compensation method based on close loop control of output current is proposed to improve the output performance of MC. In addition, a feedforward compensation method by measuring instantaneous values of input voltage is developed to compensate the output voltages of MC and ensure the drive performance of induction motor under abnormal input voltage conditions. The effectiveness and feasibility of the two proposed compensation methods have been proven through numerical simulations and experimental tests.","PeriodicalId":131410,"journal":{"name":"Conference Record of the 2004 IEEE Industry Applications Conference, 2004. 39th IAS Annual Meeting.","volume":"221 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2004-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116066649","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To establish the optimal position, a 1:1/3 physical cold water model was employed. The water model was constructed in accordance with the Froude similarity criterion. The meniscus profile dispersion was evaluated at several volumetric flow rates and submerged entry nozzle (SEN) submergence depths. The liquid level measurements were taken with an ultrasonic distance sensor and recorded in a computer. The experimental results show a strong nonlinear correlation between the process parameters and meniscus fluctuations intensity.","PeriodicalId":131410,"journal":{"name":"Conference Record of the 2004 IEEE Industry Applications Conference, 2004. 39th IAS Annual Meeting.","volume":"92 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2004-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126191236","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Such a PM machine is an attractive solution for low-speed applications in which copper losses often dominate as iron losses are of less importance. It was in the authors interest to have a low speed motor to a specific application, in which high torque and 45 kW output power at 420 rpm can be achieved using a restricted motor volume. These demands lead to study multi-pole machines with fractional slot windings. One of the designs studied was verified via a prototype machine.","PeriodicalId":131410,"journal":{"name":"Conference Record of the 2004 IEEE Industry Applications Conference, 2004. 39th IAS Annual Meeting.","volume":"75 10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2004-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126019138","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A wide set of experiments is presented in order to characterize ESD sources in an automotive environment. We show that the worst case is an induction charging mechanism, which corresponds to a \"0 /spl Omega/\" discharge, with an energy of 2 mJ transmitted to the pyrotechnic system. Hence, usual requirements, like human body model (HBM) discharges with a serial resistance of 150 /spl Omega/ or above, do not cover our most critical cases. Alternatively, the \"0 /spl Omega/\" discharges described in the machine model (MM) are more representative of induction charging mechanisms. We demonstrate that, for qualification tests, the serial resistance of the ESD generator has a great influence on the energy transmitted to the squib or to the ECU. This phenomenon makes almost impossible to specify a voltage level. Therefore, we define an energy level requirement of 9 mJ for the airbag and 2 mJ for each line of the airbag ECU instead. The discharge characteristics are specified in our requirement: capacitance of 330 pF, circuit impulse resistance (measured during ESD) below 30 /spl Omega/ in order to avoid the un-physical \"0 /spl Omega/\" criterion, and pulse duration between 1 /spl mu/s and 100 /spl mu/s to take electrical oscillations into account. Both the test methodology and the detailed procedure are given in the paper. At last, an ESD aging profile representative of the vehicle lifetime is proposed.","PeriodicalId":131410,"journal":{"name":"Conference Record of the 2004 IEEE Industry Applications Conference, 2004. 39th IAS Annual Meeting.","volume":"78 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2004-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124813290","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The connection of FCs to domestic or industrial loads requires a DC/AC converter also acting as an energy buffer to match the different dynamics of FCs and loads. In the last years, a new type of electrolytic capacitors called super-capacitors (SCs), has been designed using double layers technology. Such components are able to store more energy than electrolytic capacitors maintaining the capability to swap it at high power levels. Firstly, different solution used to connect SCs to a FC based conversion system are considered. Then, a comparison of bi-directional DC/DC converters designed to manage SCs energy is performed. Finally, the converter design and a laboratory prototype of the adopted solution are reported.","PeriodicalId":131410,"journal":{"name":"Conference Record of the 2004 IEEE Industry Applications Conference, 2004. 39th IAS Annual Meeting.","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2004-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123691240","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
