Based on the assumption that the background field does not vary substantially in the spatial vicinity of the object, simplified expressions for its scattering response are obtained. These formulas are applied for a scenario of a circular bioinclusion sandwiched between two planar dielectric fibers, and meaningful conclusions are drawn regarding the detectability of the scatterer for arbitrary textural contrast, size, or distance from the sensors.
