For those avid readers who may have checked the article, it may be clear that the main topic of that course aims to teach students practical hardware design. But, this is only a subset of the power electronics field, and there is much more to it. Namely, modern power electronics rely heavily on the digital control and use of computational resources such as microcontroller units (MCUs), digital signal processors (DSPs), or field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs), to name a few. To the reviewer’s knowledge, this is the first book exclusively dedicated to direct current (dc) fault protection. Here, power delivery can range from a few watts to more than 20 kW. What’s more, power ratings continue to rise as the systems become more complex, integrating more powerful electronics to support advances in 3D and 4D imaging modalities and improve diagnostic outcomes. In addition to addressing the ratings and safety requirements of these medical systems, designers are looking for efficient, high-power-density solutions that keep size to a minimum and heat dissipation low, offer good EMC performance, reduce ongoing energy costs, and simplify cooling overheads. Because these systems are expected to operate continually over many years, reliability and ease of maintenance are also important considerations. Cyber-physical system (CPS), a component of Industry 4.0, enables real-time monitoring, efficiency enhancement, and data generation. However, it also introduces challenges and vulnerabilities, particularly the risk of cyberattacks [1]. Critical infrastructure sectors include power grids, transportation systems, data centers, and healthcare, among others. Managing the relationship between technology and critical infrastructure involves complex regulatory and ethical considerations.
