One of the proposed cells comprises nine transistors (9T) and a pair of complementary SOT-MTJs and the other comprises seven transistors (7T), two MOM diodes stacked over a pair of complementary SOT-MTJs. The proposed 7T cell has only one overhead transistor compared to the standard 6T SRAM cell, achieving at least 50% reduction compared to other SOT-NVSRAM designs in the literature. Moreover, the always complementary MTJs aid to increase the read margin and speed, leading to at least 20% lower restore energy of our proposed 9T cell compared to others. Furthermore, the two SOT-MTJs are written serially resulting in at least 32% lower store energy of both designs than the counterparts in the literature. In addition, the two SOT-MTJs are totally disconnected from the 6T cell in the nominal SRAM operation, which aids in maintaining the conventional SRAM high performance. Our proposed cell achieves at least 2.2x and 1.9x improvement in a figure-of-merit defined as energy and area product compared to its counterparts in the literature.","PeriodicalId":13045,"journal":{"name":"IECON 2020 The 46th Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society","volume":"3 1","pages":"2275-2280"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74958436","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thickness measurement, visual inspection, fault detection, etc. are a few examples of inspection and maintenance applications that could be performed autonomously by robotic platforms like climbing robots. One of the main challenges of inspecting large infrastructures, is the problem of path planning, as the path should be optimal to reduce the inspection time, incorporate sensor properties, and account for important robot requirements such as power supply cabling. This article proposes a novel path planner targeting inspection tasks, where the restrictions posed by the cabling on a Vortex Robot (VR), the attached sensor, and the properties of the scanned surfaces are taken into consideration. The presented framework is successfully evaluated in multiple closed-loop experiments, under different surface inclinations and VR orientations to demonstrate the efficacy of the path planning and control scheme.","PeriodicalId":13045,"journal":{"name":"IECON 2020 The 46th Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society","volume":"168 1","pages":"656-661"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76459518","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A mathematical model of SBW system is built. A two-degree-of-freedom Internal Model Controller (IMC) optimized by Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm is designed for the SBW actuator system to track the desired front-wheel steering angle. Simulations are carried out to verify the effectiveness of IMC controller and the results demonstrate that the IMC controller is able to provide better control performance compared with a PID controller optimized by PSO algorithm. Besides, a Generalized Internal Model Robust Controller (GIMRC) based on the improved Youla parameterization is designed to track the desired yaw rate of controlled vehicle and improve the robustness against parameter uncertainties and external disturbances. Open-loop simulations are carried out to verify the effectiveness of GIMRC controller and the results demonstrate that desired yaw rate can be accurately tracked in different driving conditions. Then co-simulation is carried out via MATLAB/Simulink and CarSim to verify the effectiveness of the composite strategy. The results indicate that better handling and stability performance can be obtained for the automobile SBW system combining the proposed strategy.","PeriodicalId":13045,"journal":{"name":"IECON 2020 The 46th Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society","volume":"241 1","pages":"29-34"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76575104","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As a DCT, the CLLC-type DAB converter is expected to regulate the DC voltages on the bus and keep a robust voltage conversion gain (VCG). However, because of the practical values of the inductors and capacitors may fluctuate with varying temperature and operating power, VCG of the CLLC-type DAB converter may deviate from the designed one, negatively affecting power supplies. Therefore, this paper proposes a swarm intelligence aided parameter design approach for the CLLC-type DAB converter to ensure its robust VCG against fluctuating inductors and capacitors. In this design approach, the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm is adopted to facilitate design process with high accuracy and computational speed. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed design approach has been verified with experiments.","PeriodicalId":13045,"journal":{"name":"IECON 2020 The 46th Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society","volume":"23 8 1","pages":"2856-2860"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80156472","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper proposes a statistical multi-faults localization strategy for the MMC, where a feature extraction algorithm of capacitor voltage variations is proposed to extract the features of the MMC based on the exponential smoothing relationship among the capacitor voltages. Based on the extracted features, faults in the MMC can be easily located with the Grubbs Criterion according to the Grubbs Criterion Table. The proposed Grubbs Criterion-based fault localization strategy can construct concise simple features samples for the MMC containing all exponential smoothing global capacitor voltage variables, and accordingly it can locate faults with short time for the MMC. In addition, it not only does not require a large number of training data samples, but also does not require the creation of complex mathematical models and manual setting of empirical thresholds. It is compatible with both single and multiple switches open-circuit failures. The results of the simulation confirm the effectiveness of the proposed strategy.","PeriodicalId":13045,"journal":{"name":"IECON 2020 The 46th Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society","volume":"6 1","pages":"5302-5307"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80476891","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Acquiring the vibration data of a machine with suitably placed accelerometers is a noninvasive and widely adopted approach for obtaining information regarding the health condition of the mechanical bearings. This paper presents a robust condition monitoring method for wear state classification and remaining useful life estimation of the mechanical rolling element bearings using orthogonal vibration signals. This proposed method uses non-linear signal processing techniques in the frequency domain for feature subset selection of short-time Fourier Transform (STFT) spectra and non-linear temporal class boundaries for classification using Coarse and Weighted K-Nearest Neighbour. This method has been tested and validated using the IEEE PHM PRONOSTIA challenge dataset. The signal processing and ML based approach presented here has performed extremely well with correct classification results of up to 75.6% being achieved. This work is of significant merit and will be highly valuable for the electric machines community allowing for the implementation of a robust condition monitoring system for many industrial applications using vibration sensors.","PeriodicalId":13045,"journal":{"name":"IECON 2020 The 46th Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society","volume":"138 1","pages":"3031-3036"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80520806","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to the switching nature of power electronic converters, they behave nonlinearly. Thus the detailed modeling of such converters imposes a huge complexity and calculation burden on their simulation. This complexity grows exponentially when the detailed models are integrated into the simulation of large networks. In this paper, a large signal modeling technique based on long-short term memory networks is proposed. The black-box approach enables the method to model commercial over the shelf converters. The size of the network provides enough degree of freedom for tuning a trade-off between complexity and accuracy. A DC/DC buck converter is modeled using this technique to validate its performance. The training datasets are obtained from the MATLAB/Simulink switching model of the converter. A long-short term memory network (LSTM) is then trained using MATLAB’s deep learning toolbox. The obtained results demonstrate the performance of the proposed method over conventional black box modeling techniques based on neural networks.","PeriodicalId":13045,"journal":{"name":"IECON 2020 The 46th Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society","volume":"39 1","pages":"4697-4702"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80526378","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

IMR has the advantages of high transmission efficiency and flexible adjusta-bility of output voltage, which is very suitable for electrical vehicle (EV) chargers. But IMR generates harmonic pollution to the power grid because of its nonlinearity property, which in turn brings disturbances to the output side of IMR. This paper proposes an improved plug-in repetitive controller for the harmonic compensation to three-phase IMR. The proposed controller, which consists of a repetitive controller with a parallel forward path and a conventional PI controller can compensate the harmonic in power grid and attenuate the harmonic currents. For IMR operating at the power frequency, a fractional delay(FD) filter is utilized to approximate the characteristic of the delay and improve the steady-state tracking performance of the proposed controller. Simulation results verify that the proposed control scheme can compensate the harmonics of IMR effectively.","PeriodicalId":13045,"journal":{"name":"IECON 2020 The 46th Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society","volume":"74 1","pages":"1443-1448"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79335153","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
