The internal relationship between the morphemes is subordinate, often with the noun morphemes suggesting the vehicles of metaphor processes and the verb morphemes indicating the tenors. Even though these compounds are already formed through metaphor, their meanings can further develop through metaphor and thereby gain new metaphorical meanings. In addition, we examine the usages and semantic features of two metaphorical compound verbs can-shi and jing-tun through a corpus-based collocation study to tease out people’s internal understanding of their meanings.","PeriodicalId":129739,"journal":{"name":"English Language Teaching and Linguistics Studies","volume":"32 6","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141102776","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The research reveals that the ethical issues in the educational use of ChatGPT include algorithmic bias and unfairness in the domain of techno-ethics, lack of algorithmic transparency and interpretability, and issues of technical reliability and misleading information. In the context of academic ethics, concerns arise regarding the legitimacy of ChatGPT’s participation as an academic researcher, the potential for academic plagiarism and misconduct resulting from ChatGPT-generated content, and the limited value of the generated content itself. In terms of educational ethics, challenges encompass issues of educational fairness and equal opportunities, the potential alienation of teacher-student relationships, and the need to strike a balance between educational goals and personalized instruction. Therefore, addressing these ethical challenges and ensuring the fulfillment of its true purpose require approaches that encompass legal regulations and moral constraints, fostering awareness among individuals involved, and defending the essence of education while fostering innovation.","PeriodicalId":129739,"journal":{"name":"English Language Teaching and Linguistics Studies","volume":"120 19","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141105682","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The \"double reduction\" policy has strengthened teachers' subjective pursuit of teaching quality and teaching efficiency. Therefore, teachers have explored feasible methods to effectively improve English teaching efficiency, and strive to build a quality, humanized and efficient cognitive environment for junior high school students. In order to greatly improve the efficiency of English teaching, teachers consciously explore the requirements of the \"double reduction\" policy for English teaching, pragmatically summarize the main factors that improve English teaching efficiency, comprehensively summarize the practical value of improving English teaching efficiency, and scientifically explore the methods of improving English teaching efficiency under the \"double reduction\" policy.","PeriodicalId":129739,"journal":{"name":"English Language Teaching and Linguistics Studies","volume":"75 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141105917","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Great differences are revealed in the occurrence frequency and linguistic forms of sub-types of evidentiality (shared evidentials, reporting evidentials and personal evidentials). Comparatively, writers demonstrate a proclivity towards employing shared and reporting evidentials and opting for linguistic forms conveying objectivity and discreetness due to the temporal and spatial distance inherent in the author-reader dynamic. Speakers tend to use personal evidentials to project a confident and positive self-image and display less stringent adherence to the verifiability of evidence sources because of the instantaneous nature of of (delete) speech and the interactive nature of oral communication with an audience.","PeriodicalId":129739,"journal":{"name":"English Language Teaching and Linguistics Studies","volume":"20 7","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141113887","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, the source text is Ke Ling’s prose The Lane, and the translation is from Selected Modern Chinese Essays, written by Zhang Peiji. In this paper, some culture-loaded words are selected to show the translator’s adaptation to the ecological environment of translation and his choice of the target text under the guidance of Eco-translatology. The adaptive transformation in linguistic, cultural and communicative dimensions is also analyzed. Eco-translatology shows great importance in translation, and provides some enlightenment for other Chinese literature translation.","PeriodicalId":129739,"journal":{"name":"English Language Teaching and Linguistics Studies","volume":"120 26","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140378866","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper examines the bidirectional relationship between emotions, particularly Enjoyment, Anxiety, and Boredom, and language achievement based on the Control-Value Theory (CVT). Drawing on theoretical frameworks and empirical research, the study explores how emotions and language proficiency interact, shaping students’ learning trajectories. By considering the complex interplay between affective states and academic outcomes, educators can develop more holistic approaches to language instruction and support, fostering positive emotional experiences and optimizing students’ language learning journeys.","PeriodicalId":129739,"journal":{"name":"English Language Teaching and Linguistics Studies","volume":"34 5","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140440801","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It forms the foundation of grammar, sentences and discourse, and it is also the bridge for cross-cultural communication. Through vocabulary teaching, students can achieve effective communication and interaction. Multimodal theory emphasizes the dynamic learning of language, which involves using various senses such as visual, auditory, and kinesthetic senses, attempting to stimulate students’ enthusiasm and language proficiency through media like sound, images, and videos. Applying multimodal theory in junior high school English vocabulary teaching can not only develop students’ critical thinking and promote deep learning, but also meet modern needs and enhance core competencies. The author applies multimodal theory into junior high school English vocabulary teaching and employs the APPLE teaching model to analyze teaching case, illustrating the specific operational steps and methods of this theory.","PeriodicalId":129739,"journal":{"name":"English Language Teaching and Linguistics Studies","volume":"94 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140481840","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It exposes an intimate connection between women and nature, and addresses the parallels between the patriarchal logic of male power over female and humans’ domination over nature. This new approach in literary-criticism takes anthropocentrism and androcentrism as the roots of human-nature and male-female dualism respectively. Moreover, “Shakespeare Plus”, a new researching trend in Shakespeare criticism, involves three important topics of “the Domestic” “Subject-Object” and “Knowledge-Making” that ecofeminism concerns in re-examining Shakespeare’s works. This paper focuses on many natural images in A Midsummer Night’s Dream directly or indirectly related to humans especially female characters to reveal how anthropocentrism and androcentrism affect mankind-nature and male-female relationships and interpret ecofeminist thoughts revealed in them from the subjects of “the Domestic” “Subject-Object Relations” and “Knowledge-Making”. The findings, for one thing, show that affected by androcentrism and anthropocentrism humans think male-female and human-nature relationships dualistically without understanding the world in a comprehensive, equal and diversified way; for another, humans, nonhuman natural objects and other things not known or predictable yet, are interrelated. Therefore, only tolerance and equality are given to this plural world, can harmony be realized in human-nature and male-female relations.","PeriodicalId":129739,"journal":{"name":"English Language Teaching and Linguistics Studies","volume":"8 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139529797","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Chinese telecom company Huawei is a prominent participant in this sector and receives much media attention. However, how the company is represented and appraised in Western newspapers is not well investigated. This study probes into 709 American news articles collected from the New York Times and Wall Street Journal and 697 British ones from The Times and The Guardian from January 2018 to June 2020. A corpus-assisted comparative analysis is conducted from the perspective of Appraisal Theory. The study aims to identify specific attitudinal resources used in two countries’ news discourses, investigate possible similarities and differences between their attitudes towards Huawei, and finally provide some interpretations and explanations regarding relevant socio-political contexts.","PeriodicalId":129739,"journal":{"name":"English Language Teaching and Linguistics Studies","volume":"13 25","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139528915","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
