Since then, countless ordinary citizens, as well as healthcare workers, have contracted the virus by just coming into contact with infected surfaces. In order to minimise the risk of getting infected by contact with such surfaces, our study aims to design, prototype, and test a new device able to connect users, such as common citizens, doctors or paramedics, with either common-use interfaces (e.g., lift and snack machine keyboards, traffic light push-buttons) or medical-use interfaces (e.g., any medical equipment keypad).

Method: To this purpose, the device was designed with the help of Unified Modelling Language (UML) schemes, and was informed by a risk analysis, that highlighted some of its essential requirements and specifications. Consequently, the chosen constructive solution of the robotic system, i.e., a robotic-arm structure, was designed and manufactured using computer-aided design and 3D printing.

Result: The final prototype included a properly programmed micro-controller, linked via Bluetooth to a multi-platform mobile phone app, which represents the user interface. The system was then successfully tested on different physical keypads and touch screens. Better performance of the system can be foreseen by introducing improvements in the industrial production phase.

Conclusion: This first prototype paves the way for further research in this area, allowing for better management and preparedness of next pandemic emergencies.
","PeriodicalId":12941,"journal":{"name":"Health and Technology","volume":"13 2","pages":"285-300"},"PeriodicalIF":2.5,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9813453/pdf/","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"9119086","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There is still a Coronavirus epidemic that affects most countries worldwide today. To prevent future outbreaks and protect public health, it is essential to invest in research and innovation on vaccines, treatments, diagnostic tests, public health infrastructure, and emergency response planning. Additionally, we need to work on mitigation strategies and take a comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach to prevent and fight against the virus.

Methods: For the purpose of preventing the spread of microbial organisms, it is essential to take advantage of automatic sanitizer dispensers by deploying them in public places. This is one of the most feasible and effective ways to ensure that people have easy access to hand sanitizer and can reduce the spread of germs.

Results: The proposed solution is a contactless sanitizer dispenser with an integrated temperature monitoring system, as well as an alert system for users who exhibit the symptom of infection. Moreover, the proposed solution has added advantage of interfacing with an electronic door so that we can easily implement it at the entrance of a public building/public transportation. This dispenser will also collect data that can be used to identify a symptomatic user and alert the appropriate authorities for safe quarantine. In addition, it is also used to monitor usage metrics, record user entries, and conduct statistical surveys using the ThinkSpeak platform.

Conclusions: The proposed model could be a feasible solution to prevent the entry of infected persons and asymptomatic carriers indoors. This can be achieved by implementing automated temperature screening before allowing entry into the building. This can help identify individuals who are potentially infected with the virus and prevent them from entering the premises and potentially spreading the disease to others. Overall, the proposed model is a comprehensive and practical solution that can help to prevent the entry of infected persons and asymptomatic carriers indoors and help to keep the public safe.
","PeriodicalId":12941,"journal":{"name":"Health and Technology","volume":"13 2","pages":"327-341"},"PeriodicalIF":2.5,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9851904/pdf/","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"9125895","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
