Chloride concentration ranged from 4.97 mg/g in pineapple to 17.40 mg/g in plantain. Bromide varied between 2.56 mg/g in cassava to 9.59 mg/g in pawpaw. Generally, levels of chloride were higher than bromide in the samples studied. The chloride level in the samples was found to be in the order: plantain > pawpaw > yam > rice > millet > maize > cassava > pineapple, while the bromide content was in the order: pawpaw > rice > millet > maize > plantain > yam > pineapple > cocoa > cassava. The moisture content was highest in fruits (44.27%79.08%) and lowest in cereals (7.37%9.25%).","PeriodicalId":128977,"journal":{"name":"Science Forum (Journal of Pure and Applied Sciences)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115720465","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is however; found that certain restrictions are placed hence making it impossible to use the existing criteria to solve problems for second order equations. A new set of oscillatory criteria is established to generalize all forms of solutions to second order linear ordinary differential equations using integral technique. It is also discovered that certain existing restrictions are removed. It is also found that the solutions to the second order ordinary differential equations are oscillatory under the new set of conditions. An example is constructed to test the applicability of the set conditions.","PeriodicalId":128977,"journal":{"name":"Science Forum (Journal of Pure and Applied Sciences)","volume":"62 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124814175","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There is paucity of empirical information on Tin mining effect in Pingel and its Environs. Hence, this study examines the effect of Tin mining activities on the soils of Pingel and Environs, Toro, LGA Local Government Area, Bauchi State Nigeria. Eight (8) rock samples were analysed under petrographic studies and seven (7) different soil samples were collected using hand trovel at four different locations namely Mana, Pingel, Doka and Kulfana. The laboratory analysis includes: Thin sectioning, petrographic analysis, geochemical analysis (X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometer (XRF)), Focus group discussion (FGD), questionnaires and health data were captured as supportive tool of the research. The geochemical analysis reveals that 36 trace and rare elements were found in the soil sample with high concentration values of copper, zinc, lead, and zircon ranging between 170 to 300, 79 to 3850, 80 to1000, 50300 to 650ppm while the lowest is the analysis is serilium (Se) with concentration value range between 0.0006 to 0.0001. The study further examines the human perception of human to tin mining; their health aspect was particularly captured. The study concludes that there are a lot of contaminations and pollution which occur as a result of tin mining activities in the study area. The impact of heavy metals in the soils has adversely affected the livelihood of the localities, which call for attention in the present research. These explains how each of these elements pose danger to human health when consumed excessively through their drinking water or other means resulting to serious diseases such as; liver damage, elephantiasis, high fever in children, loss of pregnancies, behavioral effect. Therefore, more efficient and better practices such as soil basins and traps should be designed in the mining sites to prevent the heavy metals from moving to further distance, awareness to the localities about what they eat especially their drinking water which is an easy contagious substance and finally, government should come to the aid of the environment to embark a policy that will bring an end to these problems. Hospitals, schools and good roads should be constructed before the commencement of any mining activities in the area.","PeriodicalId":128977,"journal":{"name":"Science Forum (Journal of Pure and Applied Sciences)","volume":"274 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122935376","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Dose from ingestion are mainly due to 40K, 232Th and 238U present in food and drinking water. The sample of water used for this study was from large mining ponds from three locations of Kapang, Selebirom and Sabon angwa all of Dorowa district of Barkin Ladi Local Govt. Area of plateau State. The vegetables were also collected from the same location. The samples were analysed using Protean Instrument Corporation (PIC) MPC 2000DP and Canberra Model 727/727R Lead Shield Gamma ray Spectrometer with NaI(Ti) detector. The result of the analysis shows that the gross alpha and beta activity in the water ranges from 0.092 ± 0.002 to 0.729 ± 0.040Bq/kg and 0.370 ± 0.027 to 0.847 ± 0.098Bq/kg. Also, the gross alpha in the vegetable sampled in, Cabbage, carrots and spinach was 0.022±0.002Bq/kg, 0.026±0.002Bq/kg and 0.001±0.001Bq/kg, gross beta in the same sample was 0.016±0.003Bq/kg, 0.085±0.004Bq/kg and 0.030±0.003Bq/kg respectively. The activity concentration in vegetable for 40K, 223Th and 238U, shows that 40K ranges from 479.34±10.80 to 360.56±32.43Bq/kg, 232Th ranges from 3.50±0.58 to 2.30±0.80Bq/kg, 238U range from 10.89±1.96 to 2.54±0.87 Bq/kg respectively. The result obtained from the analysis, is evident that the water has been polluted with some radioactive materials and would not be suitable for irrigation purposes The result of the radionuclides in the vegetables though may not pose any health risk, but consumption of the vegetable over time can cause serious health risk to the inhabitants, thus the use of the water for irrigation should be stop","PeriodicalId":128977,"journal":{"name":"Science Forum (Journal of Pure and Applied Sciences)","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126509809","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
