Pipich","doi":"10.7566/JPSCP.22.011014","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.7566/JPSCP.22.011014","url":null,"abstract":"The very high resolution focusing SANS diffractometer KWS3, providing the Q-resolution of about 3.8×10Å at λ=12.8Å, is used for studies of the phase diffraction grating with the rectangular surface relief (the period of 3.3μm) obtained by photolithography and electrolytic deposition of Ni. Multiple diffraction orders are simultaneously recorded using a high-resolution 2-D position-sensitive detector. The presence of even diffraction orders in the angular spectrum is explained by non-rectangular trapezoidal-like distortions of the surface relief, which is reconstructed using the expansion in the Fourier series. This allows for studying tribology mechanisms of soft matter/solid interfaces using grazing incidence neutron spin echo spectroscopy (GINSES) and small angle neutron scattering (GISANS). In several experiments, the number of layer structures in the waveguide was chosen to be 1 and 3. Both waveguides increased the scattering intensity of GISANS (and GINSES) experiments successfully, while the simpler waveguide produced additional small angle scattering that was not rationalized so far. The roughness on the 100nm and μm length scale may produce additional background at smaller angles. In order to achieve that goal, the Solid-State Neutron Detector (SoNDe) project is developing a scintillation-based neutron detector. It will be capable of fully exploiting the available flux at small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) instruments at high brilliance sources, such as SKADI at the European Spallation Source (ESS). The read-out of the scintillator is based on a pixelized multi-anode PMT (MaPMT), where each pixel is treated separately. In addition to enabling higher achievable count-rates, one of the design goals was to develop a modular and scalable solution that can also be used in other instruments or even contexts, such as for laboratory setups. This has been achieved by combining the complete read-out electronics along with the MaPMT into modules that can be controlled and read-out individually via a network without additional any infrastructure. An overview of the present state of development and current test results is presented, highlighting the results of previously published project reports. A pixel-type detector based on a Li-glass scintillator, called the LiTA detector, is one candidate for this search. We measured the performance of this detector at MLF, J-PARC, and confirmed that it is usable up to a counting rate of 0.8 Mcps/cm^2. A boron-loaded liquid scintillator is another candidate for the high-counting-rate detector. The 3.7 ns decay time of this scintillator is shorter than that of the Li-glass scintillator. However, this liquid scintillator is sensitive to both neutrons and gamma rays.
