It is not yet clear whether pre-existing mucosal injury is a prerequisite for invasion or whether mucosal damage can occur primarily as a direct consequence of E. vermicularis infection. The onset and progression of this disease are influenced by multiple factors, which can lead to higher healthcare costs and poor patient outcomes, including complications related to end-stage liver disease. It is essential to explore both nonpharmacological and pharmacological treatment options to prevent disease progression, enhance patient outcomes, and reduce healthcare spending. While nonpharmacological therapies such as lifestyle modifications aimed at weight loss remain the first-line treatment, other pharmacological options should not be overlooked. Historically, pharmacological treatments were limited to vitamin therapy. However, recent advancements have introduced new pharmacological therapies including glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists and thyroid hormone receptor-beta agonists. This article provides an overview of current and emerging therapies for managing and treating nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. Despite its importance, research on family resilience in the context of liver cirrhosis remains scarce. This study aimed to evaluate family resilience among families of patients with liver cirrhosis and identify influencing factors. A total of 180 hospitalized liver cirrhosis patients and their caregivers were enrolled in this cross-sectional study. The Family Resilience Assessment Scale was used to evaluate family resilience. Multiple linear regression analysis was performed to identify factors significantly influencing family resilience. We found that the average family resilience score was 100.38, indicating a high level of family resilience. Multiple linear regression analysis indicated that family resilience was significantly influenced by several factors: disease severity (β = .204, p < .01), number of children (β = .189, p < .01), medical expense payment method (β = .206, p = .001), family functioning (β = .127, p = .031), social support (β = .188, p < .01), and caregiver's psychological resilience (β = .332, p < .001). In conclusion, the study identifies key factors influencing family resilience in families of liver cirrhosis patients. The results underscore the clinical importance of tailored family interventions. Enhancing family functioning and caregiver psychological resilience, alongside strengthening social support, may enhance family resilience, thereby improving clinical outcomes for liver cirrhosis patients.</p>","PeriodicalId":12666,"journal":{"name":"Gastroenterology Nursing","volume":"49 2","pages":"117-125"},"PeriodicalIF":1.0,"publicationDate":"2026-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147511634","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

During the time of illness and recovery, patients can experience physical and mental suffering. Despite many studies investigating acute pancreatitis, there is a gap regarding patients' experiences after discharge. This study aimed to explore patients' experiences of recovery from acute pancreatitis during the transition from hospital to home. A qualitative approach was adopted in a Danish surgical gastrointestinal department. Data consisted of 9 semi-structured interviews, which were analyzed with inspiration from Kirsti Malterud's theory of interpretation. Three themes were identified: 1) transition from being healthy to being ill, 2) insecurity due to insufficient information, and 3) returning to habits and routines. Patients experienced the transition from hospital to home challenging due to the lack of transition care during and after discharge from the hospital. Acute pancreatitis influenced all spheres of patients' lives after discharge, from social life to physical activity, as well as the appearance of anxiety and insecurity.</p>","PeriodicalId":12666,"journal":{"name":"Gastroenterology Nursing","volume":"49 2","pages":"91-98"},"PeriodicalIF":0.8,"publicationDate":"2026-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147511567","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of this study is to systematically investigate the impact of education provided through mobile applications on bowel preparation quality in individuals undergoing colonoscopy. Studies published between January 2010 and June 2023 were searched on the MEDLINE, CINAHL, Cochrane Library, Scopus databases, and Google Scholar with the keywords \"colonoscopy, bowel preparation, mobile application, and patient education.\" Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) involving mobile applications for bowel preparation, with adult patients (aged 18-80) as participants, were included in the study. In this context, eight RCT studies have been included in the research. In the studies in which evaluations were made with the Boston and Ottawa bowel preparation scales, it was concluded that the bowel preparation quality of the groups trained with the mobile applications was better. Compliance with bowel preparation instructions and satisfaction with the education program were higher in the mobile application groups compared to the control group. No significant difference was found in the studies where the results of colonoscopy quality markers were given. Mobile applications contribute positively to patient education in pre-colonoscopy bowel preparation processes. This study examined changes between pre-post procedural oxygen saturations among patients with moderate to high OSA risk. Patients (N = 316) in the preprocedural area were screened using the STOP-BANG questionnaire prior to receiving anesthesia. The patients' STOP-BANG score (SBS) and pre-post procedural oxygen saturations were obtained and documented. Of the patients screened, 59.8% were identified as having a moderate to high risk of OSA (SBS ≥ 3). Patients with STOP BANG scores ≥3 had significantly lower mean post-procedural oxygen saturations (M = 94.23, SD = 3.53) compared to those with STOP BANG scores < 3 (M = 95.76, SD = 3, F(1, 314) = 13.70, p < .001). Patients screened as moderate-to-high risk for OSA showed significant decreases in oxygen saturations after administration of anesthesia, emphasizing the importance of routine preprocedural OSA screening. Prescreening outpatient endoscopy patients for OSA is imperative to identify patients that are at increased risk to improve patient outcomes by decreasing the incidence of intraprocedural and postprocedural complications.</p>","PeriodicalId":12666,"journal":{"name":"Gastroenterology Nursing","volume":"49 2","pages":"99-105"},"PeriodicalIF":1.0,"publicationDate":"2026-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147511574","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, there is no validated measurement tool that can be used to assess self-efficacy in patients with colorectal cancer surgery. This cross-sectional study, with a multi-phase design, was conducted with 170 patients to describe the development and validation of the Self-Efficacy Scale for Patients with Colorectal Cancer Surgery (SES-CRCS). Phase 1 addressed the development procedures of the scale. In Phase 2, a 3-step validation process was conducted: (a) assessing the content validity, (b) evaluating construct validity with exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, and (c) assessing internal consistency reliability with Cronbach's α coefficient, test-retest, and item-total correlation methods. Exploratory factor analysis suggested a 16-item single-factor structure. The factor loadings of the 16 items were above .40, and various indices used to examine the consistency of the scale indicated a good model fit. The Cronbach's α value was .838, the item-total correlations for all items were positive, and there was a strong correlation between the test-retest measurements (r = .933; p < .05). As a result, the SES-CRCS was found to be a valid and reliable measurement tool in assessing self-efficacy among patients with colorectal cancer surgery.</p>","PeriodicalId":12666,"journal":{"name":"Gastroenterology Nursing","volume":"49 2","pages":"74-85"},"PeriodicalIF":1.0,"publicationDate":"2026-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147511658","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
