The developed backscatter tag, leveraging ambient ZigBee transmissions as radio frequency (RF) carrier excitation, conveys data by translating an excitation signal into a new ZigBee signal in neighboring ZigBee channels. This avoids the strong interference from the ambient excitation signals. The key enabling technique is a symbol-level codeword translation, which exploits square waves based on the difference between the excitation and tag data. A working prototype was successfully demonstrated to validate the modulation technology, which consists of two parts: an RF front-end circuit and an FPG A-based control circuit. Through extensive experiments and field studies, the evaluation shows that the bit error rates (BERs) can be controlled to be less than 0.1 when the communication distance is within 2 meters.","PeriodicalId":124088,"journal":{"name":"2022 Microwave Mediterranean Symposium (MMS)","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127273161","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on microwave and millimeter wave radars, the system has the aim to accurately detect the presence and distance of possible obstacles inside the harbor. Indeed, whereas ships are usually equipped with long-range radars for the open-see navigation, the in-harbor navigation relies only on the manual ability of the captain. An accurate model of the real scenario is proposed by taking into account obstacles of interest like small ships and shore structures. Different operating frequencies have been considered and evaluated, thus proposing a reliable system able to effectively assist the navigation. This contribution paves the way for enabling the concept of autonomous ship navigation by exploiting advanced sensing technologies.","PeriodicalId":124088,"journal":{"name":"2022 Microwave Mediterranean Symposium (MMS)","volume":"70 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131040805","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this direction, a dual-wideband bandpass filter is designed first and then it is integrated into the feed line of a wideband monopole microstrip antenna. The dual-wideband bandpass filter is constructed by stub loaded multi-mode resonators. Two types of stub-loaded multi-mode resonators are coupled to the feeding lines from the filter's input and output ports. The proposed topology allows controlling both bandwidths independently. The designed filtenna was fabricated for the experimental verification. Measurements of the fabricated filtenna show a good agreement with the simulated results. Center frequencies of the proposed filtenna are 3.23 and 5.65 GHz with the fractional bandwidths (FBWs) of 46 % and 21.6 %.","PeriodicalId":124088,"journal":{"name":"2022 Microwave Mediterranean Symposium (MMS)","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131186401","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Also, the relationship between the quality factor and the complex resonant frequency has been demonstrated along this communication. As an example, the correct calculation of the attenuation constant of a ridge gap waveguide has been carried out using commercial software.","PeriodicalId":124088,"journal":{"name":"2022 Microwave Mediterranean Symposium (MMS)","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129249938","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this work, we propose a one-dimensional leaky-wave antenna based on nematic liquid crystals (NLC). More specifically, an NLC cell is sandwiched between two foam layers, the top one patterned with a partially reflecting sheet (PRS), and the bottom one entirely metalized to have a ground plane. Two lateral perfect magnetic conductor walls allow for a dominant TM leaky mode propagating in the structure. The beam is then steered by applying a low-frequency driving voltage through the ground and the PRS. The trade-off among radiation efficiency, angular steering range, and gain that commonly affects any reconfigurable antenna is properly handled through a suitable choice of the design parameters. Full-wave results are finally provided to demonstrate the concept.","PeriodicalId":124088,"journal":{"name":"2022 Microwave Mediterranean Symposium (MMS)","volume":"59 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133167393","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The electric dipole is formed by four identical rhomboid patches, while the magnetic dipole is composed by four vertical metallic shorted vias. The use of the rhomboid patches flattens and enlarges the impedance matching bandwidth of the proposed radiating element and powers up the radiating element gain. The proposed configuration is fed using a substrate integrated waveguide (SIW). To proof the proposed idea, a comparison with a simple ME-dipole antenna has been done. The simulated impedance bandwidth with |S11| < −10 dB for the proposed SIW-fed wideband aperture coupled rhomboid ME-dipole is 25% (72–92 GHz). The simulated antenna peak gain is 11.1 dBi at 74 GHz and the 3-dB beamwidth is stable within the band of interest (E-band). The simulations have been performed with Ansys High-Frequency Simulation Software (HFSS). The proposed millimeter wave rhomboid ME dipole antenna can be a valid candidate for applications related to the new 5G technology, especially for 5G backhauling systems scenarios as it targets the E-Band (71–86 GHz).","PeriodicalId":124088,"journal":{"name":"2022 Microwave Mediterranean Symposium (MMS)","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133670942","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An extended long object usually gives rise to a bright reflection (glint) when viewed near its surface normal. To take advantage of this phenomenon, a discrete Fourier transform (DFT) on RCS measurements would yield a spectrum of incident wave distribution along that object [2]. Such constraints are typically found in commercial Earth-observation satellite missions. The paper discusses a closed-form approach yielding the optimum number of elements and power capabilities of each transmitting element, from which the antenna elements and the overall array size can be then obtained. Several geometries are designed and optimized, Closed Circular-Ring Resonator (CCRR) with circular loops and Closed Square-Ring Resonator (CSRR) with square loops, with one or more concentric loops. The MTM lens is bended around to the radiating section of the antenna to form a cylindrical 3D structure. Preliminary investigations have been focused to increase the device feasibility and patient wellness. The applicator is a slot coaxial antenna inserted into a surgical needle of 16 G and operating around at the center of Industrial, Scientific, and Medical (ISM) frequency band. The experimental results pertaining to a preliminary fabricated prototype of needle applicator are encouraging, and the simulation results suggest that they could be improved by using the investigated MTM lens.","PeriodicalId":124088,"journal":{"name":"2022 Microwave Mediterranean Symposium (MMS)","volume":"69 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121393587","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
