The RFID tag antenna has a compact size ($45text{mm}times 45text{mm}times 5.162text{mm}$) UHF, with a high gain of 4.2dB and a long maximum read range of 25m. The designed antenna is a two-substrate PIFA whose radiating plane, made of copper, is printed on Rogers RT / duroid 5880 ($varepsilon_{r}=2.2, text{tan} sigma=0.0009$), the artificial magnetic conductor (AMC) and the ground plane are printed on top and bottom of FR4 epoxy substrate ($varepsilon_{r}=4.4, text{tan} sigma=0.02$) respectively. The antenna is connected to the Monza R6 chip of impedance $mathrm{Z}=13.6-mathrm{j} 127$ at 866 MHz. It covers a bandwidth of 780 MHz (570 MHz-1.35 GHz) and therefore it covers the entire European UHF RFID band. The employment of metalenses with variable metamaterials dimensions allows to increase maximum gain of about ΔG = 2 dB in the frequency band f = 7 – 10 GHz, without reducing the working bandwidth of the antenna. The designed antenna consists of several microstrip lines arranged in a way to produce dual operating bands, in the (5.32 – 5.52) GHz band and (6.15 – 6.36) GHz band with a percentage bandwidth of 3.69 % and 3.36 % respectively corresponds to 200 MHz and 210 MHz bandwidth for the two bands. The proposed single-element antenna is placed on the top portion of the FR-4 substrate side edge frame and fed by a coaxial SMA connector. The proposed design incorporated three PIN diodes corresponding to 8 modes of operation, to achieve pattern diversity and multiple frequency reconfigurable bands. The diodes have been connected between the main hexagonal microstrip radiator and the external parasitic elements, which have a flower petal shape. The adopted unit-cell consists of a single-layer dielectric element perforated with a square hole, whose side is varied to change the phase of the reflection coefficient. Since the unit-cell behavior is quite stable with the direction of arrival of the incident field, it is used to design a 52 × 52 reflectarray working in Ka-band. Çayören","doi":"10.1109/mms55062.2022.9825514","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/mms55062.2022.9825514","url":null,"abstract":"In this paper, we investigate the short-circuit calibration step of the open-ended coaxial probe (OECP) which is one of the major challenges when measuring complex dielectric permittivity (CDP) of a material under test (MUT). The effect of short-circuit inaccuracy can be mitigated by an alternative calibration approach by taking advantage of the calibration mathematical model of the OECP and using known liquid instead of the commonly used metallic short-circuit procedure. The CDP results of formamide and Dimethyl Sulfoxide (DMSO) as the MUT are compared using three known liquids acetone, butanol, and 2-propanol respectively, as the shorting material during the calibration procedure. The MUT and calibration liquids were simulated with Ansys HFSS simulation program from 0.5 to 6 GHz frequency range with a resolution of 0.25 GHz. The commercially available Speag DAK 3.5-mm OECP was replicated with similar material specifications and dimensions. In order to retrieve the CDPs from reflection coefficients (RCs) obtained from the probe-MUT interface, a multi-frequency Gauss-Newton inversion method based is implemented. The results demonstrate that it is important to select an appropriate calibration material during the calibration procedure to ensure reliable CDP results. The proposed low-cost FSS solution operates at a central frequency of 2 GHz and covers some of the existing mobile phone frequency bands. An array of square loop elements is used for this application. The array structure was printed with the help of a screen-printing setup on a plasterboard using Dycotech silver paste. Simulated transmission responses compared well with measurements. The FSS was simulated using CST Microwave Studio™. Screen printing allows the direct printing of FSS on the uneven and porous surfaces of plasterboards with the details necessary for various microwave and mm-wave applications and provide the necessary conductivity for filtering. For the implementation, a Substrate Integrated Waveguide (SIW) is loaded with Complementary Split Ring Resonators (CSRR). Evanescent mode is achieve below the cutoff frequency of SIW line. Resonators which are placed in different layers are tuned and optimized to fit the working frequencies. This implies the risk of outbreaks of food poisoning and food infections related to consumption of fresh fruits, as well as a huge increase in the risk of wasting impressive amounts of products. To reduce this waste, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) systems can be beneficial, enabling early detection via low-cost tagging of contaminated vegetables and fruit, which can help reduce these losses and stop the spread of disease. An inexpensive sensor antenna has been designed using a sensitive substrate in this paper. In order to estimate the freshness of mangoes, this design optimizes the matching of input impedance based on the surface permittivity changes of the substrate The analysis of the dielectric characteristics of Tommy Atkins Mango data is used so to investigate the maturation, ripping and freshness of mangos.
