Operating over the 90 to 100 GHz frequency range the horns act to convert the TE11 mode to the Gaussian-like HE11 mode. The difference in the horns is one was made initially to meet a more moderate Gaussian content specification while the other was improved to meet stricter criteria on Guassian content as-well-as being vacuum tight and compatible with integration with a broadband multi-layer vacuum window. Missous","doi":"10.1109/UCMMT.2017.8068351","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/UCMMT.2017.8068351","url":null,"abstract":"Modeling and theoretically analyzing of a novel K-band reflection based amplifier was performed utilizing the unique negative differential resistance (NDR) feature of an InGaAs/AlAs RTD. A 2.4 μm2 mesa area device was fabricated and measured and on-wafer probe S-parameter measurements up to 40 GHz were carried out. Verification of the diode's equivalent circuit was experimentally validated and then employed to realize a K-band reflection based amplifier. The model was built in advanced design system software including a lumped element branch coupler with two active loads RTDs. Due to constructively combining the in-phase electromagnetic waves at the amplifier's output port, a high gain of 32 dB was achieved at 25.3 GHz while maintaining a very low DC power consumption of 100 μW. All measured and modelled data are in excellent agreements. Second Subharmonic mixers working at 35 GHz local oscillator signal were designed using the two samples. The minimum conversion loss was 8.5 dB at 0 dBm local oscillator power. A 100 GHz oscillator was realized and achieved an output power of 100 μW through exploiting the negative differential resistance feature of the diode. Validation of the diode's equivalent circuit model was experimentally verified using on-wafer S-parameter measurements up to 40 GHz. The circuit modelling was performed using advanced design system software. To ensure practical circuit's performance, all parasitic elements associated with the passive components were taken into account. However the optically opaque property of the MMA hinders them from electronic applications in some scenarios demanding large light transmittance and high microwave absorptivity simultaneously. Here we present a novel metamaterial for simultaneously optical transparency and millimeter wave absorption in broadband, keeping excellent absorption performance in a wide angle range from 0° to 60° both for TE and TM waves. The proposed metamaterial absorber is made of ring-shaped elements. By properly tailoring the geometric parameters of the proposed structure and the surface resistance of the indium tin oxide (ITO) film, we can achieve the optimized absorptivity that is greater than 90% from 28.1 to 42.8 GHz and excellent optical transmittance by use of ITO film with moderate surface resistance, implying that the optical properties of the metamaterial are hardly affected by the periodic meta-atoms. In addition, the polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) as the substrate has higher optical transmittance than traditional silica glass also contributes greatly to enhance the optical transmittance of the proposed structure. The pseudospark-sourced (PS) electron beam is an attractive candidate to drive such high frequency EIOs. The study of a THz EIO driven by a PS sheet electron beam is presented. This enables the advantages of a interaction circuit combined with the merits of a PS sheet electron beam, including large beam cross section, high current density and the fact that a PS electron beam does not require the use of an external focusing magnetic field. This paper presents the latest results that demonstrate the design and optimization of THz EIO driven by a 210 mA (500 A/cm2) PS-sourced electron beam. In this short paper, we report on the design and build of a dual-polarization TDS system to perform synchronous background/sample measurements. This is achieved through the splitting of the PCA-generated THz beam with a THz polarizer to obtain two orthogonal polarized beams which are balanced and modulate the indices of two separate crystals on which the probe beam (also split) is reflected off before being detected. The two branches of the system show good similarity, and can be used to perform background and sample measurements synchronously, thus not being affected by changes in temperature and humidity, as well as small fluctuations in source power. This WR-3 filter is based on three cross-coupled TE101 resonators. It is designed to have a Chebyshev response, and cross-coupling between first and third resonators provides transmission zeros in the stopband. The filter is fabricated using a multilayered SU-8 micromachining process. The completed filter has a 12 GHz bandwidth with a center frequency of 298.5 GHz: in-band insertion loss is 0.45 dB, with >30 dB rejection of the unwanted sideband.
