ANR in LTE automatically generates relations between radio network entities that is needed for many features such as active-mode mobility, load balancing and dual connectivity. Given the benefits of ANR in LTE, ANR for 3GPP NR is also going to be a key SON feature. In this paper, we capture the current agreements for 3GPP NR concerning initial access and mobility in general, as well as specifically ANR for NR. The paper also discusses aspects of ANR that still are open. Thereby, the purpose of the paper is to define the NR ANR scope and the remaining challenges.","PeriodicalId":122391,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference Workshops (WCNCW)","volume":"68 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128933831","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, due to the long-distance between the user equipment (UE) and Internet Service Provider, Quality-of-Service (QoS) in terms of low playback delay and high transmission rate cannot be guaranteed. Therefore, Mobile Edge Computing (MEC), at the edge of the cellular network, is highly recommended with the benefits of lower uncertainty and end-to-end latency. The UE can enjoy better customized services with more appropriate bitrates as a result. In this paper, we propose a practical framework of MEC-enabled cellular network with radio network-aware edge cache and a radio network-aware cache updating algorithm. The framework uses Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (DASH) and Radio Network Information Service (RNIS) is leveraged to accelerate multi-media services. Under this framework, RNIS collects information and delivers it to the MEC server based on the context. A testbed based on a real 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) Base Station is developed carrying out experiments under this framework. Compared to traditional networks, the result shows that our approach maintains a smooth high quality of experience (QoE).","PeriodicalId":122391,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference Workshops (WCNCW)","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132656977","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Network slicing, has emerged as the most promising approach to address this challenge by enabling per-slice management of virtualized resources and provisioning and managing slices tailored to the needs of different vertical industries. Service orchestration is the key enabler for slicing that allows efficient placement of virtual network functions over the infrastructure as well as optimal allocation of virtual resources among all network slices to deliver guaranteed, reliable and scalable services of different verticals. Besides, due to the limited footprint of infrastructure operators, it is also required to enable the interconnection and federation of multiple administrative domains, to effectively allow services to span across several providers. This paper presents the design of Service Orchestrator (SO) in the 5G-TRANSFORMER system, which deals with service orchestration and federation across multiple domains.","PeriodicalId":122391,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference Workshops (WCNCW)","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115043250","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Currently the WBAN are classified into: implanted (in-), surface (on-) or outside (off-) body communications regarding the location of the devices with reference to the human body. The Ultra Wide-Band (UWB) frequency band is growing as a band of interest for implanted communications because of its high data rate and low power consumption among other benefits. Software simulations, in-vivo measurements and experimental phantom measurements are common methods to properly characterize the propagation channel. Nevertheless, up to now, experimental phantoms measurements presented in the literature show some inconveniences, i.e., the accuracy of the phantoms compared with the real human tissues or the testbed used for the measurements. This paper aims at overcoming these issues using accurate phantoms designed for the purpose of implanted communications in the UWB frequency band. In addition, a multilayer phantom container was developed. This container has capacity for two different phantoms, emulating a heterogeneous propagation medium for in-body measurements. Moreover, a novel setup was built for in-body phantom measurements. As a result, an experimental path loss model is presented from the measurements obtained with phantoms. Besides, software simulations mimicking the experimental setup are performed in order to validate the previous results obtained.","PeriodicalId":122391,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference Workshops (WCNCW)","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115904670","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) has been defined to deploy multiple network services on a common infrastructure. We extend the NFV concept to vertical services, i.e. services implemented on top of network services and providing the applications of the verticals. We present a component of the 5G-Transformer system, named vertical slicer, which acts as the interface to verticals. Device-to-Device (D2D) communication is a promising technology that can be used in 5G networks for this purpose. In this paper, we identify the interest of using a D2D relay mechanism compared with a direct link with an unfavorable link budget. We first look for an optimal relay-MTC device configuration that minimizes the energy consumption. We then compare the energy consumption in direct and relaying mode expressing it in terms of the distance between the base station and the MTC device and between the base station and the relay. We show that when the MTC device is close to the base station, D2D relay mechanism can reduce the energy consumed by the MTC device at the expense of an increase in the global energy consumption (i.e. the energy consumed by the MTC device plus the energy consumed by the relay). On the other hand, when the MTC device is far from the base station, D2D relay mechanism allows reducing both the energy consumption by the MTC device and the global energy consumption.","PeriodicalId":122391,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference Workshops (WCNCW)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130366752","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As existing wireless technologies operating in the unlicensed spectrum are unable to fulfil the stringent QoS requirements of FA applications, certainly this has become one of the key opportunities for 5G. In this paper, we introduce the concept of cooperation in Device-to-Device (D2D) communication for Long Term Evolution (LTE) and New Radio (NR). We have conducted comprehensive over-the-air evaluation of the proposed D2D cooperative scheme in a representative factory hall using a Software Defined Radio (SDR) testbed. Our empirical results indicate that the scheme is able to provide a high degree of reliability while satisfying the strict timeliness constraints as demanded by FA applications.","PeriodicalId":122391,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference Workshops (WCNCW)","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131302624","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Performance analysis of RF based localization techniques are mainly conducted through simulations using numerical human models or through experimental measurements using homogeneous phantoms. One of the most common implemented RF localization approaches uses the received signal strength (RSS). However, to the best of our knowledge, no experimental measurements employing multilayer phantoms are currently available in literature. This paper investigates the performance of RSS-based technique for two-dimensional (2D) localization by employing a two-layer experimental phantom-based setup. Preliminary results on the estimation of the in-body antenna coordinates show that RSS-based method can achieve a location accuracy on average of 0.5–1 cm within a certain range of distances between in-body and on-body antenna.","PeriodicalId":122391,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference Workshops (WCNCW)","volume":"132 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132123260","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
