The experiments were carried out at the depths from 8 to 30 meters. The place of the experiments is the Southern Branch of the Institute of Oceanology (Gelendzhik). It was unique experiments in the duration of a person’s stay underwater. The maximum depth for “Chernomor” was identified, the optimal methods of organizing work in underwater inhabited houses and the permissible depths for the use of nitrogen-oxygen breathing mixtures were determined. Specialized medical and physiological research was carried out to develop a methodology for the selection and training of aquanauts for future scientific crews. “Chernomor” was the only underwater house in the world that served on the seabed for five seasons in a row. More than 50 scientists from all over the country worked in it in different crews. The work is a tribute to the memory of all enthusiasts and dreamers: designers and developers, engineers and technicians, divers and scientists, everyone involved in those unforgettable events.","PeriodicalId":122322,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Oceanological Research","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128636701","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The voyage was timed to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the first trip to island New Guinea by Nikolai Nikolaevich Miklukho-Maclay, a famous russian explorer, antropologyst, and ethnographers, and, simultaneously, with the 125th anniversary of his birth. Scientists 19 scientific institutions of the USSR, specializing in biological, geological and ethnographic research took part in the 6th cruise of R/V “Dmitry Mendeleev”, and the continuing expedition to the same area during her 18th cruise. Besides the ship crew and the scientific team, there were cameramen from Soviet state cinematography corporation Goskino, members of the Union of Artists of the USSR and other cultural and artistic figures were aboard the ship during both voyages. Nowadays, in 2021, in honor of the 175th anniversary of the birth of N.N. Miklukho-Maclay, a new exhibition named \"Oceania distant and close\" was opened in the Museum of the World Ocean in city of Kaliningrad. The Institute bears the name of P.P. Shirshov. Of course, in the year of the anniversary, all of us – employees of the Institute of Oceanology – remember with gratitude and respect the name of Petr Petrovich – the largest scientist-researcher, hydrobiologist, organizer of science and an amazing, deep, very courageous, gifted person with a bright and difficult fate. The article presented below is especially valuable because it pays close attention to the work of P.P. Shirshov as a hydrobiologist. His contribution to history as the organizer of the Institute of Oceanology or a polar explorer is widely sanctified in various publications, but his scientific hydrobiological research is much less known, meanwhile it was this direction that interested Petr Shirshov as a scientist more than anything else.","PeriodicalId":122322,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Oceanological Research","volume":"122 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114592913","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

SPECIAL ASPECTS OF DEFORMATION OF COASTAL PROFILE DURING A FULL STORM CYCLE 整个风暴周期中海岸剖面变形的特殊方面

Korzinin","doi":"10.29006/1564-2291.jor-2021.49(2).3","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.29006/1564-2291.jor-2021.49(2).3","url":null,"abstract":"Deformations of the coastal accumulative profile during a full storm cycle can be related both to the special aspects of individual storms and to seasonal cycles of wave activity. There is a concept of a “winter” and a “summer” type of coastal profile. The difference between these types of profiles is the isolation of the outer underwater berm in winter due to the transfer of sand material to depth and an increase of slopes in the surf zone in summer due to the transfer of sand material to the shore. In this case, the post-storm relief is determined by the character of the wave intensity reduction phase, i.e., the storm attenuation phase. The attenuation of the storm can be prolonged and accompanied by local peaks in wave heights, which will decrease gradually. In this case, the storm has a high potential for beach recovery and the underwater berm may shift toward the shore. In another case, storm attenuation can occur relatively quickly – the original profile is not recovered and at the end of the storm, the profile shape reflects the erosion in the peak phase. Relevant is the determination of the special features of the resulting deformations at the end of the storm cycle, in particular at the end of the storm attenuation phase. In this paper, the special features of storm deformations of the coastal sand profile, which were observed during field experiment on the Bulgarian coast and during monitoring observations on the Baltic Spit, are considered. In one case (the Bulgarian coast) it is a transition from the typical “summer” profile to the “winter” profile. In another case (Baltic Spit), a shift of the outer underwater berm toward the shore was revealed, which can be considered as a transition to the “summer” profile. It is revealed that the features of the storm attenuation stage in the two cases under consideration have specific differences. It is shown that transformations of the coastal profile, characterized as seasonal, can occur during the full cycle of a single storm event.","PeriodicalId":122322,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Oceanological Research","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134024093","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The amplitude of the averaged curve of the annual variation of the ocean surface temperature (SST) as a whole for the region was estimated, which was 7° (the contribution of the semiannual component with an amplitude of 1°С is small), as well as the most significant anomalies that reached 4°С in cold August 2002 and 3°С in warm September 2012. A quasiperiodic course of the envelope of summer maximums with a period of 5–6 years was revealed. It is shown that there is negligible trend in the thermal regime in the study area. Based on the analysis of materials from 10 oceanological surveys, seasonal variations in hydrological conditions in the area of South Kuril Islands were studied. It is shown that the areas of the Kunashirsky and Yuzhno-Kurilsky Straits in the warm season are filled with warm and salty waters of the Soya Current, and in winter and spring - with freshened modified water from the Amur River runoff transported by the East Sakhalin Current. Annual salinity variations exceed 1.5 psu here.","PeriodicalId":122322,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Oceanological Research","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127647780","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
