Preliminary works regarding the exact capacity study of MANETs mainly focus on cell-partitioned networks, an oversimplified network model for practical MANETs. This paper studies the exact throughput capacity under a more realistic and practical network model for MANETs, where network nodes randomly move in a continuous unit square without cell-partition and a slotted ALOHA protocol is adopted for medium access control. For the considered ALOHA MANETs (A-MANETs), we first determine its exact throughput capacity based on the successful transmission probability (STP) and also derive the expected end-to-end delay for a capacity achieving routing algorithm. We then develop efficient closed-form approximations to both the STP and the exact throughput capacity in the concerned A-MANET under a popular local transmission scheme, based on which the corresponding capacity optimization issue is explored. Finally, simulation and numerical results are provided to validate the efficiency of our capacity model and to illustrate our theoretical findings.","PeriodicalId":121230,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE/CIC International Conference on Communications in China - Workshops (CIC/ICCC)","volume":"71 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-11-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129151346","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Soft Spread Spectrum (M-ary Spread Spectrum) has not only strong anti-interference ability of conventional Spread Spectrum, but also high bandwidth utilization of M-ary modulation. What's more, it has lower probability of intercept, and can adjust the communication rate and spreading gain. So it's suitable for IOT. Since the spreading code is a cyclic shift of the same sequence, FFT is proposed to get cross-correlation characteristics of the signal for demodulation algorithms, instead of the traditional multiple correlation accumulators demodulation algorithm, so that it can dynamically change the data rate and spreading gain in IOT communication system. To deal with the spreading code of arbitrary length, the new calculation of cross-correlation is designed with the cost of double length of FFT. To do so, the application of the proposed algorithm is expanded. The experimental verification based on FPGA platform shows that the algorithm can reach the theoretical level.","PeriodicalId":121230,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE/CIC International Conference on Communications in China - Workshops (CIC/ICCC)","volume":"104 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-11-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127947851","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, by introducing the concept of small cells, we propose an optimal dynamic spectrum management scheme. To allocate the spare spectrum resources with the optimization objective, the system throughput, power consumption and the interference of users and other small cells are taken into account. Dynamic spectrum management is modeled as a restless bandits model, which has the indexability feature. To simplify the optimization problem, utilizing the indexability feature, simply selecting the cell with the smallest index value guarantees the optimality. Simulation results show that comparing with the existing methods, the optimal spectrum allocation method can significantly improve the system reward.","PeriodicalId":121230,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE/CIC International Conference on Communications in China - Workshops (CIC/ICCC)","volume":"55 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-11-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114982644","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To realize these potential gains and to ensure a win-win type of coexistence between the cellular and the D2D layer, there is a need to carefully design the procedures for radio resource management (RRM). This paper develops and evaluates low complexity radio resource management (RRM) algorithms that are based on practically feasible and well known measurements. These RRM algorithms include mode selection, power control, and resource allocation. First, the network assists D2D users on a coarse time scale to select D2D (direct) mode or cellular mode. Subsequently, the network informs the D2D users of tolerable power levels which cause minimal interference to the base station, and the possible resources that can be used for D2D communications. Based on this information, the D2D users act autonomously for executing the RRM functions. The simulation result shows that our approach to D2D RRM can harvest the offloading/proximity gain to the network.","PeriodicalId":121230,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE/CIC International Conference on Communications in China - Workshops (CIC/ICCC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-11-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130777149","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we propose a social-aware approach for optimizing D2D communication by exploiting two layers: the social network and the physical wireless layers. First we formulate the physical layer D2D network according to users' encounter histories. Subsequently, we propose an approach, based on the so-called Indian Buffet Process, so as to model the distribution of contents in users' online social networks. Given the social relations collected by the Evolved Node B (eNB), we jointly optimize the traffic offloading process in D2D communication. In addition, we give the Chernoff bound and approximated cumulative distribution function (CDF) of the offloaded traffic. In the simulation, we proved the effectiveness of the bound and CDF. The numerical results based on real traces show that the proposed approach offload the traffic of eNB's successfully.","PeriodicalId":121230,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE/CIC International Conference on Communications in China - Workshops (CIC/ICCC)","volume":"450 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-11-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115858749","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to increase resource utilization, we propose to divide the outer region of the cell into multiple parts and the corresponding D2D pairs located in the symmetrical parts are designed to reuse the same cellular user equipment's (CUE's) resources. To further improve spectrum efficiency, three grouping modes for D2D pairs reusing the same resources are devised and these three modes are proposed to be employed adaptively according to the values of the channel gains between CUEs and base station (BS). Furthermore, by considering interference powers from CUEs to D2D UEs (DUEs) and channel gains of D2D pairs together, an equivalent channel gain is proposed to be exploited to select D2D pairs in symmetrical parts to reuse the same resources of CUEs. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme can increase the capacity of D2D systems up to 3.5 times compared with random resource allocation one.","PeriodicalId":121230,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE/CIC International Conference on Communications in China - Workshops (CIC/ICCC)","volume":"55 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-11-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134088291","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In CR networks, secondary users (SUs) are allowed to utilize the licensed spectrum bands by paying to the primary users (PUs) with the spectrum licenses. Besides, with the rapid development of wireless communications and portable user devices, power consumption issues draw more and more attentions recently. In this paper, taking into consideration the power consumption, we proposed an optimal resource allocation scheme to maximize PU's reward in green CR networks. SUs' SNR requirements and interference limit are considered in the optimal resource allocation process. We use restless bandits formulation to reduce the computational complexity. In addition, the simulation results show that the proposed scheme improves the reward of PU compared to greedy scheme and the existing scheme.","PeriodicalId":121230,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE/CIC International Conference on Communications in China - Workshops (CIC/ICCC)","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-11-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123700374","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the power consumption is surprisingly arisen due to terminals with the worst channel quality while maintaining the Quality of Service (QoS) and data decoding requirements. In order to address this problem, we examine the energy saving performance of an efficient algorithm called Unicast Support Multicast (USM), which can dynamically and expeditiously use unicast transmission as an additional support for multicast transmission. The USM algorithm can overcome the inherent drawbacks of multicast transmission, and decrease the power consumption with QoS guarantee. Numerical results based on the conducted theoretical analysis demonstrate that power consumption is reduced with USM while fulfilling the data rate and decoding requirements. In addition, the energy efficiency of USM is superior compared to pure multicast transmission.","PeriodicalId":121230,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE/CIC International Conference on Communications in China - Workshops (CIC/ICCC)","volume":"256 ","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-11-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120869441","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Enhanced by FD-capable nodes, a future wireless network can be made up merely with pairs of bidirectional communicating nodes where each pair occupies a block of orthogonal resource to avoid interference, referred to as pure-FD system. In this paper, we derive close-form expressions for the pure-FD system models with or without Error Vector Magnitude (EVM) noise. Adopting the weighted sum-rate maximization algorithm and using simulations with MATLAB, we give simulation results of pure-FD's rate boundaries with joint optimization of power and bandwidth, and get the “FD workable area” where FD outperforms HD. Conventional frequency-division half-duplex(HD) system is present for comparison. Simulation results show that the rate boundary for FD system strongly depends on the self-interference attenuation capability of node, and there is a critical level where pure-FD performs the same with HD which is shown in our simulation. Besides, the simulation results with EVM show that the attenuation capability before baseband severely affects the rate boundary.","PeriodicalId":121230,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE/CIC International Conference on Communications in China - Workshops (CIC/ICCC)","volume":"94 4","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-11-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134255228","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Meanwhile, more energy was expensed and more interference was brought in. This is because the frequency used by relays may be the same or adjacent with the other relays or base stations. And the more stations deployed in a cell, the more energy consumed. In this paper, we proposed a novel green quasi-dynamic frequency resource division method for OFDMA download link. This method is suitable for the situation where the frequency resources are not continuous. And the special idle resources within cell are quasi-dynamically allocated, according to the load situations of base station and relays, to make the frequency division variable. With the uniform division and reasonable allocation based on the distribution of stations, the co-channel and adjacent-channel interference can be decreased effectively. Moreover, if possible, the relay stations with little users' access can be switched off and these users will be served by the adjacent relays, so that the energy consumption can be reduced further and some interference can also be eliminated.","PeriodicalId":121230,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE/CIC International Conference on Communications in China - Workshops (CIC/ICCC)","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-11-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134510263","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
