The united Delaunay triangulation network methodology makes an improvement over traditional triangulation method, with its capability of detecting human recognizable bends. Although this united Delaunay triangulation network is more suitable for terrain structure extraction, it hasn't yet been applied in contour line generalization. This article aims at exploring its application in contour lines generalization. First, the curves of contours lines are extracted, and then at the curves local terrain structure lines are linked together. Later, a tree structure of these structure lines is built, representing their relations. In generalization, the square root model is chosen for specifying the number of valley selection. And based on the built triangulation network several important aspects to evaluate the importance of valley are taken as quantitative indexes for determining which valley needs kept and which removed. The general valley importance index calculated by this evaluation method affects the degree of generalization. In result, the generalized map generally shows no intersection and keeps the original terrain characteristic, and, thus exemplifying this united Delaunay triangulation model's great potential in contour line generalization.","PeriodicalId":121212,"journal":{"name":"2009 17th International Conference on Geoinformatics","volume":"86 11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115498894","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It has been used in health-related studies to protect patients' confidentialities. The main concern in this process is the balance between the protection of confidentiality and the preservation of the original spatial pattern. However, there is paucity in literature on quantification of this balance. We conducted a preliminary research on the most commonly used geographic masking method, the point dithering method, intending to quantify the original spatial pattern preserved under different dithering thresholds. We performed kernel density estimation (KDE) using a series of bandwidths to create density surfaces from both the original points and the dithered points, and then calculated Pearson's correlation coefficients between a density surface of the original points and its corresponding surfaces of the dithered points created with the same bandwidth. Using simulated data in New Hampshire, our test reveals a clear relationship between the bandwidth of KDE and the dithering threshold: When the bandwidth is 5 times the dithering threshold, the density surfaces of the original points and the dithered points are almost identical (in most cases the correlation coefficient ≫ 0.99). This relationship provides reference for choosing appropriate bandwidth in point pattern analysis, such as cluster detection, when working with dithered points.","PeriodicalId":121212,"journal":{"name":"2009 17th International Conference on Geoinformatics","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121128277","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These descriptors enable to manage in a unified representation two families of features extracted from the objects identified by image segmentation: the attributes characterizing each object, and the attributes characterizing relationships between objects. Our aim is to focus on the complement of two approaches, on one hand concerns the remote sensing and the image segmentation, and on the other hand concerns the knowledge discovery and the modeling. The first approach discusses how to apply an auto-adaptive (non-linear) segmentation approach on a collection of such images. This method is based on the morphological transformations of opening and closing to obtain relevant and significant objects. Using this approach, we simplify and conserve the principal features and objects from the image. The second approach proposes to create a set of XML tags to model the main features elicited from the previous objects using their relationships. These tags are then exploited by querying, using topological, directional, or metrical relationships. Using this approach we can extract not only some explicit spatial information like urban areas, wooded areas and linear features such as roads or railways, but some implicit spatial information like urban organization or urban dynamics.","PeriodicalId":121212,"journal":{"name":"2009 17th International Conference on Geoinformatics","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127151192","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This article analyzes the distribution characteristic in feature space of the pixels with a local window from satellite image on a part of SPOT from an urban fringe area in Beijing. There are two methods with different input parameters of using artificial neural networks to describe this distribution characteristic: the input parameters are made up of the spectral information of the pixels in a 3×3 window; the input parameters are made up of the spectral information of the center pixel and the statistical distance of the pixels in a 3×3 window. After comparison classification results based on the method using adjacent feature, the first method is better than the second method on overall accuracy and kappa coefficient. However, the performance of the first method is lower than The second method in capability of habitation and minimal land objects detection.","PeriodicalId":121212,"journal":{"name":"2009 17th International Conference on Geoinformatics","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123692892","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

According geospatial application nodes are organized into application domains. The node management in Barn system consists of four modules: resource management, domain management, index service and web portal. Addressing the system requirements such as achieving node autonomy and avoiding a single point of failure, we deploy multiple domain servers and multiple index servers. Semantic relation is an important problem in the description of concept. Attribute method is widely used to realize concepts' semantic representation in a great many subjects. According to the definition of geographic concept, we use ontology property to describe geographic concept instead of ordinary language description. Through analyzing the ontology property of all geographic concepts, a system of ontology property is formed to manage all ontology properties of geographic concept. Using concept lattice, the concepts' semantic relation can be expressed clearly. We give an example of few concepts in order to validate the correctness at last.","PeriodicalId":121212,"journal":{"name":"2009 17th International Conference on Geoinformatics","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116006072","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Terrain Openness is a new morphology parameter that emphasizes surface concavities and convexities (Yokoyama et al., 2002) and can be derived directly from a digital elevation model (DEM). It is essentially an angular measure of the relation between surface relief and horizontal distance and can be used as a proxy for topographic curvature. It is not sensitive to noise in the data and has spatial scale built in its definition. However, the Terrain Openness parameter has not been widely used, perhaps because of limited software availability. Implementing it as a Web Service will ensure widest possible accessibility, because the only requirement for the user is an Internet connection and a standard web browser. This is made possible with recent advances in Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA), geospatial Web Services, and interoperability technologies. It is implemented within the framework of GeoBrain, an open, interoperable, distributed, standard-compliant, multi-tier web-based geospatial information services and knowledge building system.","PeriodicalId":121212,"journal":{"name":"2009 17th International Conference on Geoinformatics","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128438920","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the main weakness of such implementation is that redundant store exists among different resolution levels. To overcome this problem, we propose a novel organization for multi-resolution pyramid, called wavelet pyramid, which combines the strength of pyramid structure and wavelet transform. To integrate wavelet pyramid into Geoglobe (a Google Earth like system), we build the relationship between wavelet subbands and Geoglobe tiles. We also discuss the network transmission of wavelet pyramid in Geoglobe, and propose an incremental and progressive schedule method. Compared to tile pyramid, wavelet pyramid occupies less storage size, and its network schedule is more effective.","PeriodicalId":121212,"journal":{"name":"2009 17th International Conference on Geoinformatics","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126822009","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
