The MLCS problem targets to compute a schedule with minimum number of timeslots that guarantees to collect data from all nodes to a sink node without any collision. Several scheduling algorithms have been proposed for the NP-hard problem, and they assign timeslots based on hop distances among nodes. The proposed algorithm not only uses hop distances, but also partitions a network into square cells and assign timeslots based on cell distances among nodes. The latency performance of the proposed algorithm is compared with an existing algorithm whose approximation ratio is currently the best, and the simulations show that the proposed algorithm performs better.","PeriodicalId":120331,"journal":{"name":"Int. There has been no consensus on whether AV deployment in general will be beneficial or detrimental in terms of road congestion. There are similarities between packet transmission in computer networks and AV transportation in road networks. In this work, the authors argue that congestion avoidance algorithms used in computer networks can be applied for AV fleet management. Authors modify and evaluate a novel adaptation of additive increase and multiplicative decrease (AMID) congestion avoidance algorithm. The authors propose assigning different priorities to transportation tasks in order to facilitate sharing the limited resources in such as usage of the road network. This will be modeled and assessed using a queueing model based on AVs arrival distribution. This will result in a load balancing paradigm that can be used to share and manage limited resources. Then, by using numerical study authors merge congestion avoidance and load balancing to analyze the authors' scheme in term of road network throughput (number of cars in network for a given time) for AV fleet management. Their evaluation demonstrates the improvement in terms of road network throughput.","PeriodicalId":120331,"journal":{"name":"Int. J. Interdiscip. Telecommun. Therefore, safety of school students is still a hot topic and the most imperative issue. The evolution of wireless location-based services has created consumer requests for availability of global positioning systems (GPS) in urban and indoor environments. Nowadays, there is a requirement to deliver a system for the school bus, that monitors its location and speed. This work investigates two different ways to track the vehicle through ordinary GPS, Assisted-GPS (AGPS). A-GPS improves startup performance (time-to-first-fix (TTFF)), of a GPS satellite-based positioning system in the downtown of big cities depending on 4G/LTE cellular networks. The proposed system is basically built using Raspberry Pi (3) with 4G model shield and important telematics technologies like Representational state transfer (RESTful API) which is the vital key for the Internet of Things (IoT) field.","PeriodicalId":120331,"journal":{"name":"Int. Therefore, measuring the energy consumption is an important issue for efficient spectrum sensing. In order to compute the consumed energy at sensor nodes, their energy probability density function (PDF) is often required. In this article, the authors study the problem of spectrum sensing in cognitive networks and focus on strategies that can substantially affect the energy efficiency and complexity of such algorithms. In particular, they consider an energy detection mechanism in cooperative spectrum sensing where the knowledge of the energy PDF is the key. Since in practice the true value of such a PDF is unavailable, the authors propose to use non-gradient based optimization algorithms to find the parameters of approximated PDF function. In the proposed method, the corresponding PDF parameters are computed iteratively using Genetic and PSO algorithms. The numerical results show that the proposed technique outperforms prior methods.","PeriodicalId":120331,"journal":{"name":"Int. J. Interdiscip. Telecommun. Thus, reliability is an important factor. Due to the natural of WSAN, actor nodes are open to failure. Failure of actor nodes degrades the network performance and may lead to network disjoint. Thus, fault tolerance techniques should be applied to insure the efficiency of the network. In an earlier work, the authors proposed an efficient actor recovery paradigm (EAR) for WSAN which handles the critical actor node failure and recovery while maintaining QoS. EAR is supported with node monitoring and critical node detection (NMCND), network integration and message forwarding (NIMF), priority-based routing for node failure avoidance (PRNFA) and backup selection algorithms. In this article, the authors extend the work by adding a fault tolerance mathematical model. By evaluating the model, EAR shows to manage fault tolerance in deferent levels. To evaluate the effectiveness, the EAR fault tolerance is evaluated by simulation using OMNET++ Simulation. In addition, EAR reliability is measured and compared with RNF, DPCRA, ACR, and ACRA.","PeriodicalId":120331,"journal":{"name":"Int. J. Interdiscip. Telecommun. The level of physical workload may create stress, fatigue and injuries. Therefore, activity monitoring provides valuable information for companies in assessing and solving possible hazards in the workplace. The article presents a system using wearable technology to monitor and evaluate physical workload with in situ measurements. The system uses a smartwatch and a mobile application for Android phones. During workload monitoring, the application displays physiologic variables such as heart rate, calories, body temperature, galvanic skin response and number of steps. Additionally, the system computes absolute and relative cardiac cost, and Frimat coefficients. Tests were performed on 10 individuals from a janitor staff (5 men and 5 women), monitoring every task during their most demanding hour. Results agree with the type of activity developed in different intervals, showing light and very light workload for different tasks in all workers.","PeriodicalId":120331,"journal":{"name":"Int. J. Because of high utilization of cloud storage systems, the demand for data center management has been increased. There are several crucial requirements of data center management, such as increase data availability, enhance durability, and decrease latency. In previous works, a replication technique is mostly used to answer those needs according to consistency requirements. However, most of the works consider full data, popular data, and geo-distance-based replications by considering storage and replication cost. Moreover, the previous data popularity based-techniques rely on the historical and current data access frequencies for replication. In this article, the authors approach this problem from a distinct aspect while developing replication techniques for a multimedia data center management system which can dynamically adapt servers of a data center by considering popularity prediction in each data access location. Therefore, they first label data objects from one to ten to track access frequencies of data objects. Then, they use those data access frequencies from each location to predict the future access frequencies of data objects to determine the replication levels and locations to replicate the data objects, and store the related data objects to close storage servers. To show the efficiency of the proposed methods, the authors conduct an extensive simulation by using real data. The results show that the proposed method has an advantage over the previous works in terms of data availability and increases the data availability up to 50%. The proposed method and related analysis can assist multimedia service providers to enhance their service qualities.","PeriodicalId":120331,"journal":{"name":"Int. J. Interdiscip. Telecommun. Two technologies, namely software defined networking (SDN) and network function virtualization (NFV), offer their important benefits and a combination of them is an answer to the demands raised, such as central office re-architected as a data center (CORD). Open network operating system (ONOS) and POX are SDN controllers and offer an option to combine SDN and NFV addressing many ongoing problems in the field of mobile networks. In this paper, technologies and both controllers are compared and contrasted. Indicative cases of topologies are simulated and help evaluating both controllers. According to the experimental findings, ONOS is one of the most important controllers for practical, theoretical, research and educational purposes, while POX is a useful and simpler controller for other educative applications.","PeriodicalId":120331,"journal":{"name":"Int. However, most companies still rely on wired networks and do not trust wireless networks, especially for process control applications. The confidence in wireless technologies can be built by first evaluating the technology before using it for industrial applications. To this end, the performance of three wireless sensor networks (WSNs) standards, namely, ZigBee, WirelessHART and ISA100, is evaluated. The performance metrics are the throughput, the end to end delay, and the energy consumption. The results show that ISA100 and WirelessHART perform better than ZigBee in large networks. In addition, ISA100 is more flexible than WirelessHART, since it allows using the combination of slotted and slow hopping and configurable timeslot sizes.","PeriodicalId":120331,"journal":{"name":"Int.
