The proposed antenna has been investigated numerically and experimentally for enhanced impedance bandwidth. At the lowest operating frequency, the presented antenna has a footprint area of just 0.16 x 0.16 . According to the measurement results, the antenna offers a fractional impedance bandwidth equal to 15 % with 8dBi peak gain. The antenna provides symmetrical and stable monopole like radiation pattern over the entire impedance bandwidth. With such performance, the suggested antenna can be usefully employed in different wide-band applications such as electromagnetic interference (EMI) and defense applications.","PeriodicalId":120189,"journal":{"name":"EngRN: Embedded System (Topic)","volume":"56 8","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-05-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141207029","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Quality checking plays an important role in the manufacturing industry. In order to help the small scale industry, students and researchers to identify the defects, this paper presents an efficient algorithm for an automated visual PCB inspection system that will automatically detect any defect on PCBs. The defects are been detected by image subtraction algorithm. This algorithm utilizes a template and a defective image of a bare PCB with same size variations and orientations. There are several defects presented in a PCB. Defects like missing hole, open circuit, short circuit is been identified using the automated PCB inspection system.","PeriodicalId":120189,"journal":{"name":"EngRN: Embedded System (Topic)","volume":"119 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-04-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125387470","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Coupled with a competitive and turbulent environment symbolized by disruptive events such as floods, power failures, and terrorist attacks; contemporary BCM systems require to be more responsive for organizations to maintain resilience. Such responsive BCM systems require to be digitally enabled, while anchored on modern computing paradigms such as cloud computing. A reconsideration of BCM systems is particularly compelling in port operations, where, business disruptions to the 24-hour business model characteristic of Container Terminal Operations (CTOs) can mean huge losses not only to the port entity(ies), but also to national economies. This study responds to these recent calls for improving pre- and post-disaster business continuity by investigating the relevance of cloud computing affordances for the development of a resilient cloud based BCM for port operations in the context of South Africa. An interpretive, qualitative methodology, employing the use of a case study of the ports in South Africa was adopted in this study. The interview data collected was analyzed thematically and the findings formed the basis for the inferences made relevant for the development of an architecture for a Cloud-Based BCM. To realize effective organizational resilience using BCM, three insights, as underlying mechanisms for assimilating cloud computing in BCM can be inferred: the first is that a digitalized BCM architecture ‘fits’ the cloud computing model. Secondly, the cloud computing model is a ‘viable’ model that can contribute to managing complex organizations characterized by business units that are highly differentiated in terms of size, structure, ICT and investment levels. For such complex organizations, viability is visible in terms of how the multi-units can harness collective intelligence (CI) for more effective BCM. Lastly, to realize digitally enabled BCM and harness the power of CI; there is need for rethinking strategy towards the adoption of an ‘Intelliport strategy’ or ‘smart’ BCM for ports.","PeriodicalId":120189,"journal":{"name":"EngRN: Embedded System (Topic)","volume":"82 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-03-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125421798","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Internet of things (IoT) can be explored for monitoring mines, but analysis and predictions can prevent accidents. The main parameters that increase the possibility of accidents are worker experience, age factor, shift time, and stress of worker. An IoT based Mining System can help in tracking the movements of the workers in the mine while using cloud intelligence, and accidents can be predicted and thus avoided. The paper presents a novel fuzzy based technique to predict the possible occurrence of accidents.","PeriodicalId":120189,"journal":{"name":"EngRN: Embedded System (Topic)","volume":"7 ","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133657204","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

All forms of electricity generation have impact on our environment. Using electricity more efficiently reduces both the amount of fuel needed to generate electricity and the amount of greenhouse gases and other air pollution emitted as a result. This paper proposes smart, integrated power consumption monitoring system that has been implemented with the use of open source standard technology. Just like commercial energy meter, this system can monitor electrical energy consumption from a remote distance with the technology of Internet of Things (IoT). This energy monitoring system using IoT will read the energy level and the consumer can check the energy consumption and the electric bill via Cloud platform such as ThingSpeak, MQTT and mobile app. The main target of this system is to reduce the high energy consumption. The consumer can reach out his/her energy consumption at anytime and anywhere in the world.","PeriodicalId":120189,"journal":{"name":"EngRN: Embedded System (Topic)","volume":"198 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132476548","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As resources are shared, it induces security and privacy issues and tenant dependent on cloud service provider to assign trustworthy co-tenants. However, CSP maximize its resource utilization by allowing maximum co-tenancy irrespective of the behaviors of tenants. Subsequently techniques like Reputation management based design aid in identifying good and malicious tenants. However, the state-of-art model is not efficient when behavior of malicious tenant changes rapidly. Addressing the said research issue, a secure multi-tenant (SMT) design using a modified reputation management model is proposed which handles dynamic behavior of tenants efficiently for cloud computing environment. Experiments are conducted using TPCC benchmark shows significant performance in terms of latency and throughput by SMT over state-of-art model.","PeriodicalId":120189,"journal":{"name":"EngRN: Embedded System (Topic)","volume":"216 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122383085","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Voting based approach is a process of getting the majority of votes and will only be allowed to enter into the critical section (CS). But disadvantage of this method is that if no process remains in the pre-requisite range of majority of votes then the system will remain in idle state and a considerable number of minority processes will remain in waitlist. In prioritized distributed mutual exclusion based algorithms, the process having highest amount of priority will be allowed to enter into the critical section (CS while the processes having lower priority in waitlist will result in an increase in the length of waitlist.

Hence, for solving the concurrency and starvation related problems of distributed and cloud computing systems, we have tried to present an NMI based voting and priority algorithm with optimal & feasible solution through our study. Here, we have tried to propose a clubbed solution for voting and priority based approach by adding some other factors such as space for ‘non-mask-able interrupts’ and ‘Shortest Job Scheduling First (SJSF)’ methods has been used for upgrading the throughput of the system. The method will allow the creation of multiple critical sections in cloud, single and multi-servers based distributed systems preventing the serving processors from entering into starvation and in achieving optimum output from the system.","PeriodicalId":120189,"journal":{"name":"EngRN: Embedded System (Topic)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115847688","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
