Although the ability of MGs to operate under various operation modes improve the system flexibility and reliability, the MGs' protection system might be adversely affected due to this matter. The adaptive protection schemes have been introduced for MGs and their different operation modes and network configurations. However, the adaptive protection schemes require communication and monitoring infrastructures. Hence, the communication-free protection schemes using local measurement considering different operation modes and network configurations have received much attention in the literature. The literature shows a research gap in developing a communication-free protection scheme considering different operation modes and network configurations due to the unavailability of upstream substations, distributed generations, and other MGs' elements like distribution lines. This paper tries to fill this research gap by proposing a new protection scheme using dual characteristic overcurrent relays based on N-1 contingency. The proposed method is applied to the IEEE 8-bus test system. The power flow and short circuit analyses are implemented in DIgSILENT, and the genetic algorithm (GA) solves the proposed optimization problem in the MATLAB environment. Test results illustrate the advantages of the proposed method compared to existing schemes only considering the limited operation modes and network configurations. Test results imply that the coordination constraint violation does not appear for N-1 contingency by applying the proposed method.","PeriodicalId":119065,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Conference on Protection and Automation of Power Systems (IPAPS)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126778208","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, numerous methods have been proposed to prevent mal-operation of differential protection. The most widely used method is harmonic blocking based on the second harmonic. However, methods based on second harmonic are ineffective regarding excessive second harmonic content in converter transformer differential current. The methods based on the integral approach improve sensitivity and reliability through the modifications applied. Despite the excellent performance of this method, in cases such as internal faults with medium to high resistance, they fail to trip due to differences in the converter transformer. Hence, in this article, we first investigate the cause of this issue. Afterward, the performance of the current integral algorithm is modified for use on the converter transformer using the DC component of the fault current. Finally, the effectiveness of this method is assessed. Overall, the results show improvement in the accuracy and sensitivity of the protection operation.","PeriodicalId":119065,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Conference on Protection and Automation of Power Systems (IPAPS)","volume":"71 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126209592","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We use the frequency-reactive feedback method in this paper to implement a microgrid with a small-scale PV penetration. Because islanding can negatively impact the distribution system's protection and operation, detecting the occurrence of the island state and removing the generator should be undertaken as soon as possible. The IEEE 14-bus test system is used as a case study to apply the frequency-reactive power feedback method to detect the occurrence of an island. The simulation has been performed in the DIgSILENT PowerFactory environment and the results are analyzed. The simulation studies indicate that an occurrence and the island state result in the upstream network being disconnected at a specific time. The proposed method detects islands by monitoring frequency drops and reactive power changes. The controller is also used to maintain the frequency in the admissible range. The analysis of the results shows that the occurrence of the island is detected in the shortest time, and the variation range of frequency changes has a more favorable performance. With these evidences, we can conclude that frequency-reactive power feedback provides accuracy and speed of detection.","PeriodicalId":119065,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Conference on Protection and Automation of Power Systems (IPAPS)","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131139492","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The existence of distributed generation sources affects the short circuit level and disrupts the distribution network's recloser-fuse coordination. Using a fault current limiter in series with distributed generating sources is one solution to this problem. The fault current limiter is employed in this paper to restore recloser-fuse coordination. The system's presence or absence of distributed generation sources is unpredictable, and these unknown factors change the equipment's operation time and disrupt the recloser-fuse synchronization. Constraints connected to diverse types of connection of distributed generating sources in the coordination problem have been considered in this paper to address this issue. The protective equipment settings and the fault current limiter are calculated simultaneously in the proposed technique, coordination between the recloser-fuse would be complete and reduced recloser and fuse operating time and fault current limiter cost. The problem has been solved through the use of an analytical optimization method. The suggested method is used to a sample network to determine the best fault current limiter and protection settings while taking uncertainty into account.","PeriodicalId":119065,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Conference on Protection and Automation of Power Systems (IPAPS)","volume":"138 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127456043","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It has led to the development of speed and reliability of fault locating methods for transmission and distribution systems. It can be difficult to locate the fault. There are various methods for locating in series compensated lines with series equipment. This paper presents a novel A Hybrid Scheme algorithm on series compensated lines with the presence of Thyristor Controlled Capacitor Compensator (TCSC). The proposed algorithm can theoretically detect the fault location in transmission lines equipped with series compensators. This algorithm uses the TCSC time domain model and the distributed transmission line model. In addition to detecting the fault location, it can detect the type and direction of the fault regardless of the location of the series compensator in the shortest time. The proposed algorithm was presented and the simulation was modeled in MATLAB software. The results show that the proposed algorithm increases the accuracy and at the same time speeds up the detection of the fault location in the series compensated transmission lines in order to prevent the malfunction of the relay operation.","PeriodicalId":119065,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Conference on Protection and Automation of Power Systems (IPAPS)","volume":"75 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121869447","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, this is an attractive method of energy restore in power system for protection and stability control. In the other hand, one of the most important challenges in HTS-SMES is optimal coil design that have direct relationship with energy stored in unit length of the coil conductor, length of the wire is used, and finally the cost of the winding. In order to resolve design problems, a recent three-objective optimization of the mechanical stress of a coil, uniformity of the magnetic field inside the magnet and coil volume is presented in this paper. Three constraints include energy requirements, the stray field in an around coil, the quench condition and maximum mechanical stress of the HTS-SMES coil are considered. To optimize this three objective optimization design problem, multi objective evolutionary algorithm based on decomposition (MOEA/D) has been used. We optimized step-shaped solenoid coil with maximum mechanical stress and current density constraints. 400 MA/m2 and stresses of about 400 MPa. HTS-SMES solenoid optimal design based on YBCO is considered and the YBCO-coated conductor is employed for the HTS-SMES coil. In this paper, FYSC-SC05 YBCO and FYSC-SC10 tape produced by FUJIKURA superconductor technology company are chosen In this method, in addition to mechanical stress determination, dimension of the HTS-SMES step-shaped cross sectional solenoid is determined. As the most extensive manmade system, the power systems suffer from different kinds of cyber-attacks, which can jeopardize different sections and tasks of the grid. In recent years machine learning models have manifested promising performance in various areas, including detecting cyber-attacks. In this research, we use machine learning models to detect and locate a particular type of cyber-attack called false data injection attack (FDIA). The main idea of this work revolves around feature construction from basic rules of power system and importance of this features in accuracy of attack detection. This work consists of two parts. Firstly, we construct four sets of features from power system rules such as KCL. Moreover, one novelty of this paper is in the utilization of consensus algorithms in feature construction. Secondly, we use constructed feature sets with different machine learning models to find the best machine learning model. We also use probabilistic neural networks (PNN) as a model that has not been paid enough attention in other researches but works better with our feature sets compared to other scholars proposed method. In addition, we review several FDIA detection papers to compare our results and prove the superiority of our mechanism.","PeriodicalId":119065,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Conference on Protection and Automation of Power Systems (IPAPS)","volume":"1106 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122919261","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Because of its simplicity, Designers tend to use lightning protection angle ($alpha$) method. However, this method is just an estimation of rolling sphere method, which makes it less reliable and efficient in some cases. In this paper, a novel mathematical equation is proposed based on rolling sphere in order to optimize the height and protection radius of lightning air terminals. Maintaining the precision of the rolling sphere method, the modern proposed equation makes application of this method more convenient; there would be no need to roll the sphere in 3D space. The major benefit of the innovative equation is that it is precise and is not approximation of rolling sphere method. Moreover, the practical application of the proposed equation to two different buildings for designing LPS is explained in the essay. The results demonstrate that the proposed equation can be employed in a verity of industrial projects.","PeriodicalId":119065,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Conference on Protection and Automation of Power Systems (IPAPS)","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127675666","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
