This paper establishes a theoretical framework for technical-economic analysis on quality regulation in electricity distribution sector. Depending on the regulation model, the quality of electricity is simply left to the (good) will of the distributor (rate or return), or is imposed by a command & control regulation (price-cap). If not, we will assume that benchmarking techniques (yardstick competition) will face difficulties to overcome the heterogeneous Distribution Networks. Empirically the study reveals that the conditional mean electricity price increased when Finland joined, and remained at the higher level when Denmark also joined. Turning to the price volatility, this increased when Finland joined, but decreased when Denmark also joined. However, the price jump-intensity decreased both when Finland and Denmark joined the market. This means that a larger electricity market seems to reduce the probability of sudden price jumps. We present an example of an S-adapted Cournot equilibrium, which we apply to the German electricity market. Investment decisions derived by this dynamic oligopoly model are then compared to what the perfect competition result in an otherwise unchanged setup would be. We conclude that there seems to be a problem with underinvestment and technology mix in the current market structure. With the creation of open markets utilities faced the need to understand the way electricity prices change, in order to better develop bidding and hedging strategies. This paper focuses on the Spanish electricity market. In order to develop a model capable of evaluating and predicting the Spanish electricity prices, we use data from January 1998 until August 2005. In addition, as one of the aims is to get short and medium term forecasts, we analyze the data in a daily and monthly basis, using different techniques. In the daily prices, we use SARIMA models complemented with GARCH models. Trying to give answers to that problem, this paper provides a different approach for short-term risk management on electricity markets. Based on long-term contractual decisions and making use of a price range forecast method developed by the authors, the short-term risk management tool presented here has as main concern to find the optimal spot market strategies that a producer should have for a specific day in function of his risk aversion factor, with the objective to maximize the profits and simultaneously to practice the hedge against price market volatility. Due to the complexity of the optimization problem, the authors make use of particle swarm optimization (PSO) to find the optimal solution. The continued burning of the secondary arc usually keeps quite a long time for the high voltage level, long line and large capacity. There must lead to the failure of the re-closing if the secondary arc is not extinguished promptly, which will affect the security and stability of the system. In this paper, the dynamic induced over-voltage model as well as the dynamic secondary arc model in single-phase asymmetric breaking is established based on the distribution parameters of EHV long-line. A novel kind of high-controlled shunt reactor with a small reactor in the neutral is adopted to suppress the transient oscillation over-voltage and the secondary arc. Since the neutral point small reactor is constrained by the positive-sequence and zero-sequence capacitance of the line and the shunt reactor as well. As PV systems incorporate power conditioning units, which are harmonic generating devices, they will have an influence on quality of supply, reliable operation of system equipment as well as component life expectancy. This paper investigates the harmonic impact of a 20 kWp PV system connected to the LV distribution network in Greece. The harmonic behavior of the PV plant as a function of the solar radiation under several weather conditions is analyzed. Measurements results are compared to those obtained from the power simulator package PSIMcopy. Both incentive policies have been studied and compared. The Italian policies incentivize the energy production, while Spanish policy gives an incentive to the energy sale. Both kind of policies are studied and compared taking into account the consequences which can be seen in the energy production market. From the analysis we can conclude that the little photovoltaic plants (up to 5 kW) are more profitable in Italy, while in Spain, the great farms win in profitability.
