An analysis of execution and result interpretation of both static deformation modulus and dynamic deformation modulus is provided also. Different correlations between the two modulus according to different authors are provided. Since dynamic plate load test is not regulated in Lithuania as a soil compaction contron method, a few dynamic plate load tests and static plate load tests were executed in order to compare compaction results. The additional experiments for dynamic plate load tests in different depths were executed which showed that deformation modulus is dependant on depth of test execution, thus it is worthwile to mention to be cautious on compaction results in trenches.","PeriodicalId":11839,"journal":{"name":"Engineering Structures and Technologies","volume":"8 1","pages":"79-84"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.3846/2029882X.2016.1201434","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69989786","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It has to meet special requirements regarding mechanical properties, aesthetics and durability. Despite much effort, both in the design and execution phase, cases of damage of the floor happens, causing some specific consequences – often associated with restrictions on use. In such a situation it is required to perform rapid diagnosis and effective repair. One possibility foster this process is the use of advisory system which operates in terms of material and technological solutions. The article points out the limitations resulting from the use of advisory system related to situations of individual and unique damage. In the case of such damage it is necessary to implement research procedures and the use of advisory system turns out to be ineffective.","PeriodicalId":11839,"journal":{"name":"Engineering Structures and Technologies","volume":"8 1","pages":"8-14"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-04-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69990118","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Such situation is related to some aspects: global warming, environmental pollution, impact on human health, environmental impact of materials at their end-of-life.In current study development of thermal insulation materials from hemp and polylactide fibres are analysed. While main parameter for thermal insulation materials is thermal conductivity, rational density of composite 40 kg/m3 was chosen. For experiments 11 compositions were prepared. One composition was prepared just with hemp and polylactide fibres, five compositions with different amount of hydrophobic agent and 5 compositions with different amount of fire retardant. Experimentally thermal conductivity, sound absorption coefficient, short-term water absorption, fire resistance, water vapour transfer properties and compressive strength were determined. Rational amount of hydrophobic agent and fire retardants was chosen.","PeriodicalId":11839,"journal":{"name":"Engineering Structures and Technologies","volume":"8 1","pages":"23-30"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-04-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.3846/2029882X.2016.1158127","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69990039","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Because of weaknesses and failures of elevated tanks that have been reported in recent earthquakes and importance of optimum and resistant design and also better seismic performance of these structures, it is essential to investigate on the response modification coefficient of elevated concrete tanks. In this paper, the response modification coefficient has been evaluated by using the numerical modeling. The method of research is a case study. The models have been subjected to an ensemble of important earthquake ground motions. The effects of soilstructure interactions and fluid-structure interactions on seismic behavior of the elevated concrete tanks have been modeled by the equivalent springs and Housner’s method, respectively. It requires from a building administrator to be well experienced and have skills in making decisions, which include a proper investment of limited funds allocated for maintenance. This task is usually preceded by the analysis of cost-effectiveness and validity to perform certain repairs. Taking into account the above the authors proposed a model supporting an administrator in making decisions while determining a scope of building renovation. The system algorithm proposed comprises a few stages including: building condition and its proposed repair evaluation and the choice of renovation variant. It is based on tools such as multicriteria methods to support decisions and linear programming. Calculations conducted using the suggested model allow an administrator to obtain key information for appropri...","PeriodicalId":11839,"journal":{"name":"Engineering Structures and Technologies","volume":"8 1","pages":"15-22"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-04-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.3846/2029882X.2016.1170641","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69990102","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The design codes allow masonry compressive strength to be established (or better: estimated) by calculation, from tests, or from tabulated values. In this way the current European masonry standard EN 1996: Part 1-1 (LST EN 1996-1-1) tabulates the masonry strength for concrete blocks with thin layers of mortar. In France, doubts exist on the validity of these tabulated values for the blocks made with lightweight aggregates. To provide data for an extension of the use of the tabulated values for lightweight aggregates blocks and at the same time to provide input to the development of Eurocode 6, a major research program was set up. The research program aims to evaluate the mechanical strength of the thin joints hollow concrete masonry made with dense or lightweight aggregates. Three nominal section sizes were tested. Detailed measurements of material properties, residual stresses, and geometrical imperfections were conducted. The pin ended specimens were tested with a minimal eccentricity of L/1,000 applied about the minor axis to cause compression at the tips of the legs. The test data are compared with the Indian specifications for hot-rolled steel structures. The section capacities obtained from the column tests are found to be between 15 and 40% higher than those calculated according to the specifications. It is concluded that there is no need to include the additional eccentricity specified in the steel structures standards accounting for the shift of the effective centroid, and that the eccentricity of L/1,000, specified for all section classes, should be applied to slender sections only.","PeriodicalId":11839,"journal":{"name":"Engineering Structures and Technologies","volume":"7 1","pages":"55-66"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.3846/2029882X.2015.1113892","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69989549","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the inflicted forces upon these structures is explosion. Given that the resistance of a construction against blast wave depends on the form and shape of the building, numbers of trap doors and openings, power and quality of materials utilized in the building; in consequence, studying and evaluating types of construction forms versus outcomes resulted from explosion find importance.
