Most of the researches and analysis discuss the interfaces of architectural shapes of the buildings with sustainability only in the buildings with unique design. Meanwhile, the model comprising a selection of a basic shape of the singlefamily house was not implemented. Our study evaluated the individual parameters associated with selection of the house shape: compactness, safety, material input, variability of premises and spaces. The SWARA (Step-Wise Weight Assessment Ratio Analysis) method is applied in the calculation of the relative importance of the criteria and the EDAS (The Method of Evaluation Based on Distance from Average Solution) method was used to prioritize the alternatives.","PeriodicalId":11839,"journal":{"name":"Engineering Structures and Technologies","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.3846/2029882X.2017.1347528","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44876364","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Moisture absorption, density and percentage voids were investigated as well as the compressive strength, flexural strength and split tensile strength at 28, 45 and 60 days of air curing. Acrylic polymers reduced moisture intake, increased the densities and led to another increase in percentage of voids but composite samples with bamboo fibre inclusions at 1.5% and 10% polymers with 1.5% fibre an 15% polymers showed better physical properties than those with polymers only. Compressive and split tensile strength tests had similar results of optimum strength at 45 days while flexural strength test had optimum value at 60 days of air curing. This showed that the properties of unreinforced concrete could be improved through addition of fibres and polymers for use in structural applications.","PeriodicalId":11839,"journal":{"name":"Engineering Structures and Technologies","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.3846/2029882X.2017.1371085","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41610607","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The relationship between temperature raise and specimens weight loss is presented. It is noted that results of experiments run by different scientists vary widely and cannot form a common GFRP behavior model under heating. To compare the effect of thermal exposure on GFRP of a number of Russian manufacturers, the thermal analysis of composite rebar was carried out. Weight fluctuation was recorded with temperature ranging from 22 to 500 °C. The results of visual estimation of the effect of heating GFRP specimen up to 200 °C is also presented. All experiments were conducted according to requirements of corresponding regulations.","PeriodicalId":11839,"journal":{"name":"Engineering Structures and Technologies","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.3846/2029882X.2017.1382127","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49037780","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The analysed beams were strengthened with non-prestressed CFRP and prestressed CFRP at different loading levels. It has allowed a better understanding about strengthening effectiveness. Results obtained by finite element analysis were compared with experimental results obtained by other researchers. Phased nonlinear analysis was used to simulate the behaviour of the strengthened beams. Performed analysis showed that it is possible to use finite element analysis in order to investigate a real behaviour of the strengthened elements in real structure.","PeriodicalId":11839,"journal":{"name":"Engineering Structures and Technologies","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.3846/2029882X.2017.1381044","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49623523","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This research explores the feasibility of such wastes to be used in polyurethane foam composites. It is well known that using water as a sole blowing agent has major drawbacks such as long demould time, shrinkage, high diffusion rate of carbon dioxide and etc.; therefore, the bio-based propylene glycol (RPG) is used in order to solve such problems. The addition of 20 parts by weight (pbw) of RPG eliminates the primary shrinkage of the foam composites when PWS is used in the amount varying from 5% to 20%, and improves the dimensional stability at 70 oC and 90% relative humidity conditions. The addition of titanate coupling agent modified PWS particles increases the compressive strength of the final composites from  26% to  53%, from  17% to  31% and from  3% to  23% for, respectively, 10 pbw, 15 pbw and 20 pbw RPG extended foam composites.","PeriodicalId":11839,"journal":{"name":"Engineering Structures and Technologies","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.3846/2029882X.2016.1277170","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42107860","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The research is made on V. Jokūbaitis proposed methodology directly measuring the compression zone height, allowing us to evaluate the behavior of reinforced concrete beam fracture sufficiently precisely. This paper confirms the hypothesis that, when reinforcement reaches yielding stress, elastic strain dominates in concrete’s compression zone and it is reasonable to use triangular concrete compression zone diagram, without tensile concrete above crack evaluation. The methodology of reinforced concrete structures bearing capacity assessment according to limit normal section crack depth is proposed. There is established connection between bending moments, when reinforcement achieve yielding stress and tensile strength, which allows us to decide about structures bearing capacity reserve. One of the solutions to increase energy efficiency is the selection of the appropriate insulation materials of the external walls. The article proposes the approach for selection of the insulation material based on SAW multiple criteria assessment method. The proposed methodology is applied for the case of insulation material selection in refurbishment of 12-storey building in Vilnius, Lithuania. Research reveals that rock wool outperforms other materials by thermal conductivity, light weigh, water vapour diffusion resistance, highest flammability class, durability and lowest emission of CO2 and is an efficient insulation to be used for sustainable refurbishment solutions.","PeriodicalId":11839,"journal":{"name":"Engineering Structures and Technologies","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.3846/2029882X.2017.1339296","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46527691","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
