Materials and methods: Fifty resin specimens were divided into 5 main groups according to the remaining wall number; group W0 no remaining walls, group W1 1 remaining wall, group W2 2 remaining walls, group W3 3 remaining walls, group W4 no missing walls. Ten resin dies for each group were fabricated using epoxy resin and assigned to each group. Resin dies from all groups were individually scanned using an extraoral scanner. Second generation zirconia monolithic (three mol% yttria-stabilized tetragonal zirconia polycrystal (3Y-TZP) endocrowns were milled. All endocrowns were sintered according to the manufacturer’s recommendations. After trial fitting, all endocrowns were cemented to their corresponding resin dies using resin cement. After 1000 thermal cycles alternating between hot and cold baths with 20-second immersions at 55±1º C and 5±1ºC, respectively, and a 10-second delay between each immersion, each specimen was fixed to the lower fixed part of a universal testing machine with a load cell of 5 kN at a crosshead speed of 0.5 mm/min. All specimens were loaded to failure, and recorded in Newton using computer software. Data were collected, tabulated and statistically analyzed. Results: Group W1 showed higher mean values (2933±733.61) followed by W0 group (2453.5±492.48), then W4 group (2187±576) and group W2 (2108.17±451.28) and finally W3 group (1992±205.63). At a 95% of confidence level, One-Way ANOVA revealed significant differences between tested groups (P= 0.033). Conclusions: There was a significant difference in fracture resistance between groups with different numbers of remaining walls. The mean fracture resistance values were not consistent with the number of remaining walls. The number of remaining walls is not directly proportional to the fracture resistance values.","PeriodicalId":117944,"journal":{"name":"Al-Azhar Journal of Dental Science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114863740","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Subjects and methods: Thirty-six primary molars (class 1) with depth of caries not more than the coronal two thirds of dentine thickness. The children were aged 4-7 years and randomly divided into three equal groups based on the method of caries removal. The time of caries removal in each tooth was calculated using a stopwatch and the mean time of each method was obtained. The physical pain was also assessed by asking the children to choose the face that express their feeling using the Wong-Baker FACES analysis scale. The children were recalled for clinical and radiographic evaluation after 1and 6 months. Results: The conventional method showed the shortest time (2.82±0.477 min.) of caries removal followed by Brix 3000 (5.47±1.35min.) and 2.25% sodium hypochlorite gel (7.24±1.45 min.). Concerning pain sensation; the conventional method showed the highest grade of pain sensation with high significant differences from the two other chemomechanical methods. The results showed no significant difference between 2.25% sodium hypochlorite gel and Brix 3000. The clinical and radiographic evaluation showed that there was no significant difference after 1 and 6 months between all groups. The success rate among these groups showed that there was no significant difference between the success rates in all groups. Conclusion: 2.25% sodium hypochlorite gel and Brix 3000 are effective chemomechanical caries removing agents.","PeriodicalId":117944,"journal":{"name":"Al-Azhar Journal of Dental Science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134317994","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Materials and Methods: The finite element model components as the overdenture, mucosa, implants, angled base, abutment, cortical and cancellous bones were created in “Autodesk Inventor, then exported as SAT files. These components were assembled in ANSYS environment. The model was subjected to two loading conditions of 200N, vertically unilateral and, vertically bilateral at molar regions respectively. Results: All values of deformations and stresses appeared on the model components (overdenture, implants, angled base, abutment, cortical and cancellous bones) were within physiological limits under all loads application. Conclusion: Tilted implants at molar area did not affect the system behavior (did not show peak of stresses or deformation) and all values of deformations and stresses that appeared on the model parts (cortical, spongy bone, implant, base, abutment, and overdenture) were within physiological limits under all cases of load application.","PeriodicalId":117944,"journal":{"name":"Al-Azhar Journal of Dental Science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123837673","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Materials and methods: One hundred and eight sound lower molars were sectioned perpendicular to the long axis to obtain flat dentinal surfaces. Specimens were divided into 2 equal groups (n=54): Group 1 (ER) and Group 2 (SE) according to bonding approach. Each group was subdivided according to dentin moisture elimination technique into 3 equal subgroups (n=18): Control (Co), Diode laser irradiation (L) and Warm air drying (W). All specimens were adhesively cemented to IPS e.max® CAD discs using RelyX™ Ultimate Clicker™ (3M ESPE) resin cement. Half of the samples were then subjected to pre-loading in a thermodynamic manner (C=9). Afterwards, all samples were tested for shear bond strength using computer-controlled material testing machine. Results: Data analysis was performed using three-way (ANOVA) (p< 0.05) followed by pair-wise Tukey’s post-hoc tests. Three-way ANOVA showed significant difference between moisture elimination techniques in both groups, except ERNC. Also, for both groups, subgroup (W) had the highest shear bond strength values followed by (Co) subgroup and the least was (L) subgroup. Conclusion: Warm air drying for both bonding approaches increased shear bond strength of IPS e.max to human dentin and can be introduced to enhance bonding to dentin.","PeriodicalId":117944,"journal":{"name":"Al-Azhar Journal of Dental Science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127883841","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
