Its performance in terms of throughput, delay and spectrum efficiency is evaluated using computer simulation. Voice, and variable bit rate data traffic are integrated within one TDMA frame through a movable-boundary structure. Combined with DS-CDMA a new hybrid multiple access protocol is investigated that is capable of integrating different types of traffic and also gives us the capacity and flexibility of the CDMA protocol.","PeriodicalId":117877,"journal":{"name":"1996 IEEE International Conference on Personal Wireless Communications Proceedings and Exhibition. Also we analyze the traffic characteristics in a micro/macro overlaid CDMA PCS system where voice and data channels are processed separately. Handoff procedure is the important parameter for evaluating PCS systems. For this, we calculated inter-microcell handoff area dwelling time distribution and micro/macrocell handoff area dwelling time distribution. Using these results and a M/M/C/K model, we analyzed the traffic performance of macrocells with handoff area variation of microcells. Simulation results show that the blocking probability of microcells and macrocells depends on the handoff area variation.","PeriodicalId":117877,"journal":{"name":"1996 IEEE International Conference on Personal Wireless Communications Proceedings and Exhibition. This environment consists of two rings of co-channel interference cells (133 cells) with uniform and nonuniform traffic distribution. At call initiation the C/I ratio is evaluated. A minimum C/I value in dB is required for attending a call, otherwise, the call is rejected. The propagation model takes into account log normal shadowing losses. The nonuniform traffic distribution is the real traffic distribution in the system of one of the two cellular companies of Mexico City. Results are presented for fixed channel assignment (FCA), borrowing with channel ordering (BCO), borrowing with directional channel-locking (BDCL) and the compact pattern based dynamic channel assignment (CP) strategy. In order to evaluate these strategies in the new digital cellular system, some modifications and combinations with different time slot assignment techniques were used. In the proposed interference limited environment the borrowing with directional channel-locking strategy gave better results with both uniform and nonuniform traffic distribution cases when the AMPS standard was used. However, borrowing with channel ordering outperforms all the other strategies when the IS-54 standard was used.","PeriodicalId":117877,"journal":{"name":"1996 IEEE International Conference on Personal Wireless Communications Proceedings and Exhibition. The system is a line-of-sight communication system. The basic concepts and the major components of the system are depicted. The network is an access network. It relies on the public switched telephone network (PSTN) and the public land mobile networks (PLMN) to complete end-to-end services. The network provides single hop call connectivity for mobile-to-PSTN and mobile-to-mobile calls. It can penetrate extremely isolated areas where the terrestrial PSTN and PLMN cannot. The network, together with its inter-working features of terrestrial cellular system provides a seamless network of universal mobile communication.","PeriodicalId":117877,"journal":{"name":"1996 IEEE International Conference on Personal Wireless Communications Proceedings and Exhibition. Research is now focusing on third generation systems. These are generally referred to as personal communications networks (PCN), universal mobile telecommunication systems (UMTS) or future public land mobile telecommunication systems (FPLMTS). Different modulation schemes supporting multiple data rates in a direct sequence code division multiple access (DS/CDMA) system are studied. A successive multistage interference cancellation scheme for the considered modulations is described. Bit error probability on both AWGN and Rayleigh fading channels are presented both with single user detection and with multistage interference cancellation. It is shown that DS/CDMA is very flexible in supporting multiple data rates for wireless multimedia applications and that significantly improved performance may be obtained using interference cancellation.","PeriodicalId":117877,"journal":{"name":"1996 IEEE International Conference on Personal Wireless Communications Proceedings and Exhibition. Call processing model for wireless network 无线网络呼叫处理模型

{"title":"Call processing model for wireless network","authors":"A. Hác","doi":"10.1109/ICPWC.1996.494261","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/ICPWC.1996.494261","url":null,"abstract":"The switching network consists of a number of switches connected by trunks. The wireless network is built of base stations connected to switches. A call from a mobile user is set up through a base station and a number of switches. A switch has the input queue for the source and the output queue. The packets are held in the input queue if the output queue in the switch is full. The input queue is a buffer that holds the packets if the required bandwidth exceeds the available bandwidth. The switch design allows for collision free packet transfer between the input and the output queue. A variable buffer is employed based upon the protocol carried, with a priority technique used to service time sensitive protocols. A multiplexing mechanism is used to allow other protocols to enter the queue during time-outs. This paper proposes a call processing model for wireless networks. Wireless communication can cause congestion in high-speed switching networks depending on the volume of calls, their origination and the network architecture. In congested areas where wireless services are extensively used, the switching network can become congested. In addition, the quality of wireless communication can decrease because of the frequency range that allows for limited number of calls made within the cell. The call processing model allows for evaluation of those limitations and for choosing the best possible solution.","PeriodicalId":117877,"journal":{"name":"1996 IEEE International Conference on Personal Wireless Communications Proceedings and Exhibition. This small cell radius causes frequent cell movements of mobile hosts. In order to support seamless communication service to mobile users, we need a new handoff scheme. In this paper, we propose a multicast-based pre-handoff scheme which minimizes buffer overhead for seamless communication service as well as handoff delay. We call this scheme sub-group buffering handoff scheme (SGHS).","PeriodicalId":117877,"journal":{"name":"1996 IEEE International Conference on Personal Wireless Communications Proceedings and Exhibition.
