Therefore, the present study was directed to explore the biochemical variation in Spilostethus pandurus (Scop.) (1st and 5th nymph instar and 2-day-old male adults) irradiated with different gamma radiation doses (50, 100, 150 and 200 Gy). The testis lactate dehydrogenase and acid phosphatase activities were also estimated in the adult males. The results exhibited a significant decrease in the metabolic products (protein, lipids, and carbohydrates), and the antioxidants response (glutathione–S-Transferase and glutathione reduced) when compared to control. Contrarily, lipid peroxidation content was significantly elevated when compared to the control. Furthermore, the arrangement of the studied ages according to the content of the tested parameters was 2-day-old male adults > 5th nymph instar > 1th nymph instar. The testis lactate dehydrogenase and acid phosphatase activities showed a significant increase in the irradiated males. In conclusion, it was observed that gamma radiation generated damaging effects in the physiological system of the different stages of S. pandurus, so it could be used for S. pandurus control.","PeriodicalId":11719,"journal":{"name":"Entomological News","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2023-04-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48890414","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To investigate the development of B. brevicornis stages on three hosts; full-grown larvae of Pectinophora gossypiella, Galleria mellonella, and Spodoptera litoralis were irradiated with 100, 200, and 300 Gy. The use of 100Gy in irradiating P. gossypiella and G. mellonella produced utilization in promoting parasitism and adult emergence of B. brevicornis, with parasitism percentages of 77.00% and 80.00% for P. gossypiella and G. mellonella, respectively, when compared to control larvae or other irradiated doses. The results of the biochemical experiments showed that G. mellonella > P. gossypiella > S. littoralis was the order of the insects in terms of total protein, lipids, and glucose. It could be concluded that using 100Gy irradiated P. gossypiella and G. mellonella larvae would aid in improving B. brevicornis mass production and the effectiveness of B. brevicornis.","PeriodicalId":11719,"journal":{"name":"Entomological News","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2023-04-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44115559","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A key to the genus for US Derbidae is found in Bartlett et al. (2014), and a key to eastern US species in Bartlett et al. (2011). Members of the genus (Figs. 1, 2) are fragile, approximately 8-10 mm in length, head strongly dorsoventrally flattened and strongly anteriorly projecting, dorsum of the head straight (fastigium obtusely angular in lateral view), antennae with appendages (e.g., Bartlett et al. 2014, fig. 64E), wings much longer than the abdomen, usually pale in coloration with diagnostically patterned wings. The most similar genera are Apache Kirkaldy (Bartlett et al. 2014, fig. 67E; red or rose in coloration, dorsum of head sinuate, the apex of wings inflected upward) and Shellenius Ball (Bartlett et al. 2014, fig. 67H; dorsum of the head straight to weakly sinuate, fastigium rounded in lateral view). These genera are assumed to feed on fungal hyphae as nymphs and may overwinter as nymphs or adults in rotting logs or similar situations.","PeriodicalId":11719,"journal":{"name":"Entomological News","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2023-04-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49002666","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thysanoptera specimens were collected with destructive and strike methods in two periods (before and after spike) from each production field during the production season. Thrips specimens were identified based on morphological taxonomic characters. Species distribution maps, species richness, abundance, as well as Shannon–Wiener (H') index, species seasonal dynamic and species sex ratio were calculated to indicate the diversity of Thysanoptera species in the Lakes Region. We also calculated Pearson correlation coefficient to evaluate correlation between Thysanoptera species richness and host plant richness. Species Distribution Modelling, namely MaxEnt algorithm, was used in order to establish the current and future distributional patterns of Thysanoptera species collected in our research area. During the two years of the study, 27,603 specimens of Thysanoptera were collected in production fields of wheat, oat and barley. There were 51 different species from four families. Haplothrips tritici was the most abundant species with 15,284 specimens or 55.371% of all collected. The highest relative abundance within family Thripidae was recorded for Collembolothrips mediterraneus, Chirothrips manicatus, Thrips angusticeps, Thrips herricki and Limothrips cerealium. Considering the altitudinal gradient of the study area, the highest species richness and abundance were found between 950 and 1,050 m.a.s.l. with 40 species and 7,622 specimens recorded. Potential species richness of Thysanoptera revealed an increase in areas that predominantly encompass eastern parts of Burdur province, as well as central north parts of Isparta.","PeriodicalId":11719,"journal":{"name":"Entomological News","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2023-04-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45365981","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
