The pollution level is used to inform the public to take extraordinary measures based on a pollution scale. Particulate matter (PM), precisely $PM_{10}$ and $PM_{2.5}$, is used to estimate the degree of pollution. The monitoring and analysis of these two variables have attracted the research community's attention, particularly in the design of measuring stations, forecasting, and software infrastructure to host user applications. This paper proposes a modular and ready-to-use architecture for a SaaS cloud application for air emissions forecasting using IoT measuring stations. The SaaS cloud application is connected to the IoT measuring stations located in the densely populated cities of El Salvador. The data is used to create deep learning models, to make forecasts for the next day.","PeriodicalId":117020,"journal":{"name":"2020 2nd International Conference on Societal Automation (SA)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-05-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125801067","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, efficient use of solar energy on these appliances in combination with the Internet of Things (IoT) platforms became a well-researched topic, especially when storage units like batteries are out of option. In this context, the use of solar energy should be managed so that the room temperature at the time of occupancy is the one desired. This task is particularly challenging when the house is mainly occupied in night periods (in which no solar energy is available). To address this issue, we propose a modular device consisting of a microcontroller that relies on machine learning algorithms. The device keeps the heater turned on ignoring the desired temperature until a decision point so that when it turns the heater off, the room cools down just the right amount. Since the device should be modular and installable to any kind of house, the proposed device should be able to make these predictions without knowing any home-specific features like size, isolation, … Therefore, in our framework, the switching off decision point is computed based only on indoor and outdoor temperatures. According to our experimental evaluation, the proposed system exhibits an accuracy of 77% in identifying when to switch off the heater so that the room is at the desired temperature at a pre-specified time.","PeriodicalId":117020,"journal":{"name":"2020 2nd International Conference on Societal Automation (SA)","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-05-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114452390","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Machinery, being part of such production lines, has additional requirements in terms of functional safety. The re-configuration of functional safety systems, which is characterized by high manual configuration efforts, leads to time-intensive and expensive downtimes. The concept of self-organizing safety systems reduces the engineering efforts by assisting the system operator in the configuration of changes and consequently reducing machine downtime. The aim of this paper is to present a self-organizing safety system model and discuss the human control of self-organizing safety systems by making use of cybernetic approaches and examining the backgrounds for the need of human control over autonomous systems.","PeriodicalId":117020,"journal":{"name":"2020 2nd International Conference on Societal Automation (SA)","volume":"63 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-05-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115694625","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In recent years, many large-scale disasters have occurred in Japan and large-scale disasters may occur in the near future, unfortunately. In case of large-scale disasters, emergency relief supply logistics is an important issue since it will affect lives of evacuees. The proposed method modifies a stored method of a tabu list, introduces aspiration criteria, and applies a searched list using a hash function for simultaneously solving the optimal number of secondary depots, the optimal placement and the distribution areas of secondary depots, and the optimal routes of vehicles in the distribution area of secondary depots. It is verified that the proposed method can generate higher quality optimal vehicle routing and reduce computation time than the conventional reactive tabu search based method with actual evacuation facility data of Chiba City, which are planned to be used in case of natural disasters. The results are confirmed by Wilcoxon test.","PeriodicalId":117020,"journal":{"name":"2020 2nd International Conference on Societal Automation (SA)","volume":"205 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-05-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124604919","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper presents an ultra-low-power low-end constrained monitoring end device capable of running on a battery for more than 10 years. It compares a bare-metal implementation and its redesign into an application supported by the Azure RTOS ThreadX, taking advantage of its low-power modes, and measuring the AES and RSA PKCS #1 v1.5 encryption impact on the battery lifetime and the RAM/FLASH memory. This study verified that even though the Azure RTOS ThreadX occupies more memory than the Bare-Metal design as expected, it is estimated to maintain the application running for more than 20 years (3000 mAh battery), based on the measured power consumption profile of the end device.","PeriodicalId":117020,"journal":{"name":"2020 2nd International Conference on Societal Automation (SA)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-05-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127099661","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The original introduction of interface automata used a notion of buffered communication with infinite buffer size. This communication model is suitable to abstract the behaviour of many computing aspects with asynchronous communication between components. In this paper we present Loosely Synchronous Interface Automata (LSIA) to describe interfaces of components with loosely synchronised communication. Loosely synchronised communication facilitates a blocking semantics of communication for both sender and receiver. With loosely synchronisation it is possible to describe systems where a precise order of events is necessary. For example, cyber-physical systems often include control tasks where the exact order of events is necessary for a safe operation. With LSIAs it is possible to check compatibility of interface models including safety-relevant properties like lifeness. In this paper we describe the composition of LSIAs and show examples.","PeriodicalId":117020,"journal":{"name":"2020 2nd International Conference on Societal Automation (SA)","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-05-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126181828","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The integration of traditional power and digital technologies result in interdependencies that need to be considered in risk analysis. In this paper we argue the need for analysis methods that can combine the competencies of various experts in a common analysis focusing on the overall system perspective. We report on our experiences on using the Vulnerability Analysis Framework (VAF) and bow-tie diagrams in a combined analysis of the power and cyber security aspects in a realistic case. Our experiences show that an extended version of VAF with increased support for interdependencies is promising for this type of analysis.","PeriodicalId":117020,"journal":{"name":"2020 2nd International Conference on Societal Automation (SA)","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-05-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127347595","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A solution is a zonal architecture which organizes the harness and ECU in spacial zones. For the interconnection of the spacial zones a high performance backbone is mandatory. In this context, the ERIKA project focuses on the development of an OFDMA-based in-vehicle communication backbone. OFDMA, known from wireless (LTE) or powerline communication, provides high performance by multiple simultaneous transmissions over a twisted wire pair using time and frequency multiplexing. In this work, we provide an overview of the project activities and introduce OFDMA-based Ethernet mechanisms for automotive systems. These allow to reduce cabling overhead, handling different traffic classes, support agile software integration, and increase robustness to avoid failures.","PeriodicalId":117020,"journal":{"name":"2020 2nd International Conference on Societal Automation (SA)","volume":"67 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-05-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116824436","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For the first time known, this work studied these concerns via interviews with consumers and producers of dairy products. Therefore, this paper introduces “NUTRIA” as a decentralized dairy product Supply Chain Tracing (SCT) system, designed and implemented based on real-world observations of the Swiss dairy supply chain and conducted in collaboration with dairy producers. Based on these studies and to overcome deficits of traditional and centralized SCT approaches, NUTRIA enables an automated SCT via a Blockchain-based decentralized application. NUTRIA materializes a trusted and transparent SCT, which empowers the dairy value chain. Furthermore, results of the real-world evaluations of deployed approaches within NUTRIA are covered, including social aspects and risks.","PeriodicalId":117020,"journal":{"name":"2020 2nd International Conference on Societal Automation (SA)","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-05-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115638130","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
