The filter structure comprises two arrayed waveguide gratings, a custom-made fiber array, high-dispersion fibres, and a reconfigurable opto-VLSI processor. Simulation results shown that it could form two beams, which could be operated squint-free and independent from each other at 6 GHz. The use of MCFG incorporation with tunable optical delay lines has greatly reduced the system complexity and components requirement. Moreover, our proposed beam-former is more robust against group delay ripple, which is the main reason for directivity error in other beam-former using chirped fiber grating.","PeriodicalId":115448,"journal":{"name":"2008 International Topical Meeting on Microwave Photonics jointly held with the 2008 Asia-Pacific Microwave Photonics Conference","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-11-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125163430","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Tuning bandwidths of the microwave beat-note signal are shown that approaches the gain bandwidth of the laser medium (80-100 GHz). Beat-note frequency stability of ap 10-6 over hour-long periods and quantum-noise-limited intensity noise scales well with increased tuning ranges and microchip arrangements for dual-helicoidally-polarized lasers. These simple, yet widely-tunable, stable photonic-based microwave sources are elegant devices for portable, frequency reference applications.","PeriodicalId":115448,"journal":{"name":"2008 International Topical Meeting on Microwave Photonics jointly held with the 2008 Asia-Pacific Microwave Photonics Conference","volume":"95 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-11-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122551556","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
