It is based on a WDM technique with a double-pass modulation approach incorporating sequentially spaced reflectors that provide the appropriate time delays for the remodulations. Experimental results are presented which demonstrate a coherence-free microwave photonic filter that exhibits a narrow-notch, a wide passband, and no phase noise limitations, simultaneously.","PeriodicalId":115448,"journal":{"name":"2008 International Topical Meeting on Microwave Photonics jointly held with the 2008 Asia-Pacific Microwave Photonics Conference","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-11-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132351450","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the access domain, high capacity mmW radio systems are used as point to point links for mobile backhaul or as bridges between fixed transport networks. We demonstrate first the provision of 10 GbE compatible point to point links using OOK modulation over a 60 GHz carrier suitable for outdoor operation up to 40 m with prospects for range extension to several hundred meters. Secondly, we demonstrate the use of photonic vector modulation and demodulation for bandwidth efficient GbE LAN bridging with the potential to transmit 10 GbE at mm-wave frequencies. Finally, we demonstrate the use of photonic up and down converters for 60 GHz indoor high capacity (Gt 1 Gbps) radio generation and distribution of Ultra-Wideband signals.","PeriodicalId":115448,"journal":{"name":"2008 International Topical Meeting on Microwave Photonics jointly held with the 2008 Asia-Pacific Microwave Photonics Conference","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-11-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130271763","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This scheme uses a single reflective semiconductor optical amplifier at the hybrid base station for both the upstream transmission and the local networking. The reflective semiconductor optical amplifier is self-seeded with the use of narrowband fiber Bragg gratings and therefore it does not require external seeding sources and hence provides wavelength switchable capabilities.","PeriodicalId":115448,"journal":{"name":"2008 International Topical Meeting on Microwave Photonics jointly held with the 2008 Asia-Pacific Microwave Photonics Conference","volume":"315 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-11-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132930673","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Selective delivery is achieved by simply controlling individual transmitter laser biases at the central office. For subscribed customers, the optimal bias condition was obtained by observing power penalty changes for the PON and OFDM signals with reference to BER of 10-9 and 10-3, respectively. For low bias levels, the OFDM signal could not be recovered. With proper band-pass filters of 1 GHz bandwidth, 4 Gbps OFDM signal can be transmitted.","PeriodicalId":115448,"journal":{"name":"2008 International Topical Meeting on Microwave Photonics jointly held with the 2008 Asia-Pacific Microwave Photonics Conference","volume":"18 2","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-11-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120912746","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The photonic vector demodulator is capable of converting broadband wireless QAM signals into independent inphase and quadrature optical baseband signals. Experimental demonstration of demodulation of 2.5 Gbit/s QAM modulated 20 GHz carrier is presented. Bit error ratio of the demodulated-I and -Q optical baseband signals is measured and an error free demodulation achieved. A receiver sensitivity of -26.5 dBm and -27 dBm were measured for the I and Q signals respectively.","PeriodicalId":115448,"journal":{"name":"2008 International Topical Meeting on Microwave Photonics jointly held with the 2008 Asia-Pacific Microwave Photonics Conference","volume":"106 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-11-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124945202","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Optimum fibre length values that correspond to dispersion compensation have been found. For these optimal conditions a pulse width of 480 fs has been measured. These optimum fibre length values have been applied to the integration of two architectures of phase noise reduction schemes: a coupled opto-electronic oscillator (COEO) with a single self-injection loop associated to a self-phase-locked loop (PLL) and a dual loop COEO. A phase noise reduction of more than 30 dB at an offset frequency of 20 kHz has been obtained for the second architecture.","PeriodicalId":115448,"journal":{"name":"2008 International Topical Meeting on Microwave Photonics jointly held with the 2008 Asia-Pacific Microwave Photonics Conference","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-11-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122507083","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We demonstrate in this paper that in such structures, the filter response is sensitive to the optical carrier wavelength. This means that a tunable laser as the optical source may be necessary to achieve the desired filter response. However, we show here that polarization controllers introduced in the filter structure can be used to stabilize the filter response against variation in the optical carrier wavelength. With this modification, even with a fixed-wavelength laser source one can achieve the desired filter response.","PeriodicalId":115448,"journal":{"name":"2008 International Topical Meeting on Microwave Photonics jointly held with the 2008 Asia-Pacific Microwave Photonics Conference","volume":"79 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-11-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133263382","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
