The short duration of the test results in reasonably good estimates of formation permeability, skin factor, and reservoir pressure. The technique, referred to as Quicklook, requires pressure measurement at the surface and downhole. After perforation, the formation is subjected to an instantaneous-rate drawndown or injection for a couple minutes. The instantaneous-rate period is followed by a shut-in period of sufficient duration to achieve the desired radius of investigation. Three interpretation plots are made to perform the analysis: a derivative type plot for flow-regime identification and type-curve analysis, a specialized plot (rate-convolved Horner (RCH) analysis) for certain flow parameter calculations, and a system-verification plot. A desirable feature of the technique is that the testing and perforating can be performed during the same trip. Two field examples from low-permeability wells illustrate the technique and data interpretation.","PeriodicalId":115136,"journal":{"name":"Spe Computer Applications","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1991-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123988087","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The problem of providing powerful and flexible applications without creating complexity has been solved by an intuitive graphical user interface. Through the adoption of petroleum industry standards, an open system was designed to facilitate information input and output. Careful attention to emerging computer standards has resulted in a system that is portable across a wide range of current hardware from multiple vendors and that will be easily movable to new hardware platforms as they become available.","PeriodicalId":115136,"journal":{"name":"Spe Computer Applications","volume":"62 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1991-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130837019","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The system addresses many of the daily operating needs of data acquisition, well and facility monitoring and control, problem detection and diagnosis, design and/or redesign of artificial-lift systems, and oilfield data management. It is generalized in that one system, with common computer hardware, software, and techniques, serves several different oil fields with diverse operating requirements and conditions.","PeriodicalId":115136,"journal":{"name":"Spe Computer Applications","volume":"147 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1991-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115702162","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Input data can range from unknown formation damage, for which the system designs a conservative treatment based on well history and geological probability, to cases with detailed formation information available, in which very precise treatments are prescribed. The system requests additional specific laboratory tests, when needed, to aid in product selection. Basic input data requested include well type and history, formation-damage mechanism, bottomhole temperature, reservoir pressure, formation permeability, lithology, porosity, interval size, and crude oil gravity. Output includes product selection, additives, treatment volumes, and treatment technique. Phase 1 of the ACIDMAN expert system was delivered in beta test in March 1990, and full implementation of all phases is planned during 1990.","PeriodicalId":115136,"journal":{"name":"Spe Computer Applications","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1990-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131019118","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The majority of these applications apply to operations engineering and include calculating fluid properties, multiphase-flow pressure drops, and optimum designs for both downhole and surface equipment. The redesign effort focused on the user interface, with only minor changes made to the calculation routines.
