The microwave split ring resonator sensor (SRR) is used differentiate between fresh and aged Red Grapefruit (Citrus Paradisi) over the frequency band ranging from 1–10 GHz over 1 day to 2 weeks measurement time points. A relative difference, in the mean epsilon (over 5 samples) values between the good and aged grapefruits, of 30% and 40% are found for the real and imaginary part of the permittivity respectively over the S-band frequency range. Corresponding shift in resonance frequency of SRR is also observed.","PeriodicalId":112989,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Conference on Antenna Measurements & Applications (CAMA)","volume":"85 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114188189","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Adapted from land-based measurements, this test methodology involves hoisting the antenna under test using a helium-filled aerostat above the earth to minimize ground interactions while flying a small unmanned aerial system (sUAS) with onboard RF measurement equipment package to map the far field radiation pattern. Prior to testing the technique using both airborne platforms – the aerostat and the sUAS - measurements are performed on the ground using the sUAS and a fixed VHF dipole over a ground plane to verify the methodology prior to incorporating the flying aerostat for airborne measurements of the HF dipole. These initial measurements have produced promising far-field pattern results with work remaining to fully adapt the fixed VHF antenna measurements to the dynamic HF antenna test setup that uses two airborne platforms (sUAS and aerostat) for measurements.","PeriodicalId":112989,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Conference on Antenna Measurements & Applications (CAMA)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115791476","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A measurement methodology is proposed for estimating the associated conductivity. This parameter is critical for the definition of antenna emplacement on the airframe keeping in mind the impact of the presence of the platform and other antenna systems on its performance. This is specially important in small size aircraft, as UAVs. Presented preliminary results are really promising. A PCM GeTe-based parasitic patch considered as a switchable element between insulator and conductive states is applied to operate with a driven patch radiator. The direction of the radiation pattern of the antenna can be tilted by changing the state of the GeTebased patch from its insulator to conductive state. Obtained resultshows that the proposed technique is effective to control the beam direction of the antenna. Around a 40° titled angle is achieved by the insulator-to-conductor activation of the GeTe patch which can be realized by an optical source, making the antenna simple and compact without extra bias circuit. Hence, the antenna is suitable for millimeter-wave applications.","PeriodicalId":112989,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Conference on Antenna Measurements & Applications (CAMA)","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128879420","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
