Most of the time, they waste a significant amount of energy when operated under favourable channel conditions. Energy efficient and accurate channel state classification is imperative for selecting the optimum trade-off between transceiver performance and amount of saved energy, without impacting transmission quality. This work presents a novel, low complexity channel state indicator and a simple mono-feature classifier for channel state recognition. The classifier is trained using a set of experimental data acquisitions and has a 96% accuracy when tested with a new collected data set. Specially designed for LPWA applications, the classifier is capable of distinguishing undisturbed channels from those suffering from both mobility-induced fading and interference, while operating at low to medium SNR.","PeriodicalId":112866,"journal":{"name":"2019 11th International Conference on Communication Systems & Networks (COMSNETS)","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122974219","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The next generation (5G) wireless communication networks (WCN’s) are required to fulfill these rising requirements, hence aiming to utilize the available spectrum as efficiently as possible. Also this is leading to a detrimental effect on the ecological balance of the environment as the transmit power levels increase correspondingly in the atmosphere. Hence power optimization has also become a major concern. Various technologies such as massive MIMO, spectrum sharing, device to device communication (D2D), GREEN communication have gained significant attention in aiding spectrum utilization along with power optimization. This proposal intends to optimize power using spectrum sharing for the NGN’s to achieve high spectrum and energy efficiency for both the primary and secondary system without introduction of a secondary transmitter. The performance of the proposed model has been compared with the opportunistic spectrum sharing model and other popular resource allocation algorithms. The results obtained confirm the efficiency of the proposed scheme for increased performance of the system.","PeriodicalId":112866,"journal":{"name":"2019 11th International Conference on Communication Systems & Networks (COMSNETS)","volume":"80 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124430951","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Cross layer designs (CLD) are recommended for the designing a better performing network applications. 5G standard for next generation network includes the provisions for CLD within the standard itself to cater resource demand from such devices. 5G along with its predecessors is going to coexist providing a heterogeneous connectivity for a user. Irrespective of generation, radio access network (RAN) still remained a bottleneck and drastically affects the performance. Signal strength is a metric for RAN which is used in several decisions and is an important parameter for CLD. In simulation of CLD signal strength is modeled using established path loss and fading models wherein distance is the only variable, similarly, noise is modeled as a Gaussian distribution. Thus, with static user received signal strength (RSS) appears as Gaussian distribution but in reality the RSS is non-uniform with sharp peaks and long tail. Simulation with incorrect models result into solutions that lag far apart in performance than the actual outcomes, hence, correct modeling of RSS is a decisive factor. In this empirical study data collected for RSS using NeSen App by colocated multiple smartphones. This study proves that RSS recorded follows t-Distribution with mean between [-71, -77]dbm, standard deviation between [3.75, 4.85] and degree of freedom in range of [6.8, 10.5].","PeriodicalId":112866,"journal":{"name":"2019 11th International Conference on Communication Systems & Networks (COMSNETS)","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114651808","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The challenges associated with radio level interworking architectures such as reliability, fine granularity in traffic steering, and minimizing out-of-order packet delivery for maximizing link aggregation benefits are not well addressed by IP and PDCP layer interworking architectures. LTE–Wi-Fi radio level interworking at RLC layer (LWIR) is a promising integration architecture which not only addresses the above mentioned problems but also improves the interworking benefits significantly. We have designed and implemented an LWIR prototype system using OpenAirInterface (OAI) as LTE network and Cisco Access Point/Atheros device with Hostapd as Wi-Fi network. In this work, we demonstrate the aggregation benefits of using LWIR architecture by employing byte level traffic steering across LTE and Wi-Fi links.","PeriodicalId":112866,"journal":{"name":"2019 11th International Conference on Communication Systems & Networks (COMSNETS)","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116912650","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, buffering remains the biggest concern, which severely degrades the quality of experience. In particular, the amount of time spent in video buffering phase has the worst impact on the user engagement. This buffering phase becomes more visible while streaming in fluctuating networks, which is a common scenario when user watches streamed video while ravelling or during weather aberration. In this paper, we propose an intelligent network aware adaptive streaming method which estimates the past network trend, optimizes the video queue caching mechanism and enforces video quality in client device. By doing so, the algorithm is able to reduce buffering events by average 40% and quality switches by almost 45%, providing an almost seamless video streaming playback experience.","PeriodicalId":112866,"journal":{"name":"2019 11th International Conference on Communication Systems & Networks (COMSNETS)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128217229","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this work, we treat data generated from a smart home setup towards HRA, as a series of events and perform feature extraction using a the popular LSTM variant of LSTMs. We use the Aruba dataset from the CASAS project [2]. We apply LSTM to extract features and perform annotations. Additionally we apply standard classification techniques to recognize and evaluate the different activities in the newly annotated data. Storing and managing the streaming IoT sensor data is a great challenge. IoT applications require real-time analytical query processing on stored data. To make any IoT data queriable, it needs to be loaded into any database management system traditionally. Where the high data insertion time DIT becomes the first bottle-neck. Storing data in its raw format is the most convenient solution for scientific experiments and variety of other applications where high data velocity and unknown or varying schemas exist in the approaching data. Therefore raw data storage and management techniques need to be explored to utilize very low DIT for handling streaming IoT data. Most of the work with raw data processing is dealing with the static data and how to improve query performance on the stored data. This work tries to explore possibilities in applying raw data processing technique to streaming IoT sensor data. A Raw data processing framework is proposed to handle the streaming IoT sensor data. The work tries to exploit the open source system setup to handle the streaming data. The experimental setup consists of PostgresRAW PgRAW a first mature NoDB system.
