It is proved that Fe2S3 nanolayer is successfully loaded on CdS nanorods by TEM and UV-Vis spectra and other means. The representative Rhodamine B was selected as the target pollutant and the results of degradation experiment showed that after 60 minutes of exposure to LED visible light with a low energy (25 W), the removal efficiency for this dye could reach 98% in the presence of peroxymonosulfate (PMS) forming free radicals, which displayed a observed kinetic rate constant exceeding 0.62 min−1 that is approximately 5 times higher than the system without PMS addition and 10 times than the system with original CdS as catalyst. The result of inhibition experiments shows that sulfate radical (SO4·-) and singlet oxygen (1O2) play as important roles during the photocatalytic process. A theory for the reduction is proposed. In addition, this core-shell material can be recycled at least four times. Generally, this study can make full use of visible light which can be easily obtained and effectually resolve the organic pollution problems.","PeriodicalId":11260,"journal":{"name":"Desalination and Water Treatment","volume":"319 1","pages":"100434-100434"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147906237","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Effect of variables including initial pH and concentration of Cr(VI) in the solution, adsorption time, adsorption temperature and coexisting ions on the performance of ICMMCA in Cr(VI) removal from water were evaluated. Furthermore, the kinetic and thermodynamic studies were conducted to elucidate the adsorption mechanisms and thermodynamic characteristics of the adsorption process. The results demonstrated that the maximum Cr(VI) adsorption capacity of 94.67 mg/g could be achieved when the adsorbent loading was 1 g/L, the initial concentration of Cr(VI) was 100 mg/L, the adsorption time was 60 min and solution pH was at 5. The adsorption data could be well fitted by the Freundlich isotherm model. The thermodynamic parameters indicated that the adsorption process was spontaneous and endothermic in nature. The adsorption process could be described by the pseudo-second-order kinetic model.","PeriodicalId":11260,"journal":{"name":"Desalination and Water Treatment","volume":"319 1","pages":"100442-100442"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147919855","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to explore the mechanism and the influencing factors of the adsorption behavior of microplastics (MPs) on selenium (Se) in aqueous solution under the coexistence of nanoparticles, polystyrene microplastics (PS), nano-titanium dioxide particles (TiO2) and their coexisting compounds (PS+TiO2) were used as adsorbents to investigate the adsorption kinetics, isotherms and thermodynamic processes of Se. The effects of pH, humic acid concentration and coexisting ions on the adsorption behavior of Se(VI) were also analyzed. The results showed that the adsorption process of Se(VI) by PS and PS+TiO2 could be well fitted by pseudo-second-order kinetic model and Freundlich isotherm model, and it was an endothermic reaction with increased entropy. The adsorption capacity of Se(VI) by PS, TiO2, and PS+TiO2 were decreased with the increase of solution pH. Humic acid and Ca2+ promoted the adsorption of Se(VI), while PO43- significantly inhibited the adsorption of Se(VI) in the above three systems. The main adsorption mechanism of PS on Se(VI) was electrostatic adsorption and hydrogen bonding. The TiO2 adsorbed on the surface of PS mainly affected the adsorption behavior of PS on Se(VI) through hydrogen bonding.","PeriodicalId":11260,"journal":{"name":"Desalination and Water Treatment","volume":"318 1","pages":"100338-100338"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147900204","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For this reason, there is an urgent need to develop nanofiltration membranes with high permeability and selective filtration. In response, a novel composite PVDF loose nanofiltration membrane was developed by combining two different mixed amines system/dopamine (DA) followed by interfacial polymerization with benzoyl chloride (TMC). The two different amines systems were a mixture of GAZ and PEI and a mixture of PIP and PEI, respectively. The effects of GAZ/PEI and PIP/PEI on the microstructure was characterized by SEM, AFM, FTIR and XPS and performance of the membrane was also investigated. The effects of GAZ/PEI and PIP/PEI on the microstructure and the selective layer of membranes were different. The results stated that with the increase of GAZ/PEI the thickness of the selective layer, surface roughness decreased, while the fluxes of pure water and dye wastewater increased. However, with increasing PIP/PEI, surface nodules and roughness both increased. Contrarily, the thickness of the selective layer and PEG800 rejection first decreased and then increased, while the flux of pure water and the dye wastewater first increased and then decreased. The optimal GAZ/PEI and PIP/PEI were 9/91 and 50/50, respectively. When the GAZ/PEI was 9/91, the pure water flux and the RB5 wastewater flux were 20.7 L∙(m2∙h)-1 and 11.5 L∙(m2∙h)-1. The dye (RB5) retention rate was 94.3% and salt retention rate was 2.1%. However, when the PIP/PEI was 50/50, the pure water flux and RB5 wastewater flux were 26.6 L∙(m2∙h)-1 and 17.1 L∙(m2∙h)-1 increased by 87.3% and 134.2% respectively. The retention rates of RB5 and NaCl were 96.3% and 1.7%. The above results indicate that the composite PVDF LNF membranes prepared with mixed amine monomers instead of single amine monomers have good selective filtration performance.","PeriodicalId":11260,"journal":{"name":"Desalination and Water Treatment","volume":"318 1","pages":"100333-100333"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147900985","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The organic-inorganic composite ultrafiltration membranes were prepared by doping different contents of HA nanoparticles into the CA by phase inversion method. The structure and morphology of the HA nanoparticles and membranes were characterized by X-ray diffraction, Fourier infrared spectroscopy and Scanning electron microscopy. Thermogravimetric analysis was used to describe thermal characteristics. The contact angle value and wettability test were used to determine the hydrophilicity of the polymer membrane. In addition, fluxes and rejection rates were tested at different pollutant concentrations and different pH values. The pore size and porosity gradually increased and the hydrophilicity and thermal stability of membrane were improved with the deposited HA content. With the addition of 5 wt% HA, the tensile strength of the membrane reached a maximum value of 2.80 MPa. The fluxes of pure water, CR, MB and BSA were 152.23, 111.25, 125.69 and 87.47 L/(m2·h), while the rejection rates of CR, MB and BSA were 99.99%, 92.91% and 99.99%, respectively. In addition, the rejection decreased with increasing dye concentration and showed higher rejection under alkaline conditions. On the whole, the produced CA/HA composite membranes exhibited significantly higher permeability and rejection rates, offering them a lot of potential for water treatment applications.","PeriodicalId":11260,"journal":{"name":"Desalination and Water Treatment","volume":"317 1","pages":"100309-100309"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147882626","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The XRD, EDX and TEM characterizations were used to determine the structure, composition and morphology of the as-prepared samples. The interaction between Fe3O4/NiO nanoparticles and β-CD molecules was investigated by TGA and FT-IR spectra. The results indicate that β-CD molecules can encapsulate the as-prepared nanoparticles and control the nucleation and growth of Fe3O4/NiO nanocrystals to certain extent. The pyrolysis of β-CD molecules and calcination treatment produced porous structure that provides more adsorption sites for CR molecules. The effect of reaction factors including calcination temperature and pH values was studied to determine the optimum condition. In addition, the thermodynamic and kinetic parameters of CR absorbed on Fe3O4/NiO nanoparticles were measured to understand the adsorption mechanism. The high removal efficiency for CR in aqueous solution was achieved within 60 min of adsorption and 40 min of UV-light irradiation, which can be attributed to the synergistic effect of the adsorption–photodegradation process. The prepared Fe3O4/NiO nanocrystals exhibit high adsorption capacity, magnetic separability, good photocatalytic activity and renewability, making it a potential material for wastewater treatment.","PeriodicalId":11260,"journal":{"name":"Desalination and Water Treatment","volume":"317 1","pages":"100136-100136"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147913213","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The effects of PDS concentration, Fe2+ concentration, CA concentration, Cu2+ concentration, pH, and common inorganic anions in water on PDS activation and RhB degradation were investigated. Results showed that sulfate and hydroxyl radicals were the primary active substances in the reaction system, with sulfate radical playing a key role. The addition of CA and Cu2+ improved the efficiency of RhB decomposition, achieving a removal rate of 98.4% after 30 min of reaction, governed by pseudo-first-order. The presence of a complexing agent, allows effective RhB removal over a wide pH range. The free sulfate radical (SO4·−) concentration increases with increasing Fe2+ concentration. However, when the Fe2+ concentration was higher than 0.5 mM, self-quenching of SO4·− occurred and the RhB degradation rate decreased. In contrast, with increasing PDS concentration, the degradation rate of RhB continued to increase. The radical process was the main mechanism of RhB decomposition. Analysis of intermediates showed that C–C and C–N bond cleavage was the most likely degradation mode for contaminants to become small molecules.","PeriodicalId":11260,"journal":{"name":"Desalination and Water Treatment","volume":"317 1","pages":"100195-100195"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147878236","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This phenomenon has heavily influenced the reuse of wastewater. Electrocoagulation (EC), as an effective approach to decreasing Boron concentration, has been widely studied, while further research of Boron removal from complicated wastewater is required to optimize. EC parameters were investigated to explore the optimal Boron removal effect of Fe, Al and Fe-Al three combined anodes. Under 46.3–57.2 mA/cm2, 90 min and pH of 9, Fe-Al anodes exhibit the best effect of Boron removal (84% ± 1.5%). Furthermore, high adaptive capacity of low current density and suitable pH confirm the best choice of Fe-Al combined anodes. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) demonstrate the complexation between Boron and metallic oxide. Finally, the common removal of various pollutants including Ca, Cl, K and Na further conduces to the reuse of oil wastewater.","PeriodicalId":11260,"journal":{"name":"Desalination and Water Treatment","volume":"317 1","pages":"100127-100127"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147910121","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It must be removed from water since it is hazardous to aquatic life and bio-accumulative. Photocatalysis is a popular method to remove pollutants. Here, the solvothermal approach was used to create the photocatalytic composite based on Eu2O3 and BiOBr. SEM, XRD, and photoluminescence spectroscopy were used to characterize the composite's structure and determine its characteristics. The effects of Eu2O3 loading, solution pH, and dosage of catalysts on the degradation efficiency were tested. The best removal results were occurred when 1.0 g/L of Eu2O3/BiOBr with 1 mol% of Eu2O3 loading on BiOBr was added. Approximately 81.9% of thiamethoxam was degraded within 120 min under UV irradiation. A wide pH range was suitable for the catalytic process. Additionally, Eu2O3/BiOBr can be recycled six times without obviously losing catalytic activity. Scavenging experiments demonstrated that the primary active species in the photocatalytic degradation of thiamethoxam was hydroxyl radicals, and a potential photocatalytic process was hypothesized in light of the scavenging experiment findings.
