In this paper, we conduct an extensive simulation study to evaluate the performance of INLA for estimation of the hierarchical Poisson regression models with overdispersion in comparison with JAGS and Stan while assuming a variety of prior specifications for variance components. Further, we analysed the influence of different factors such as small number of observations per cluster, different values of the cluster variance and estimation from a misspecified model. A simulation study has shown that the approximation strategy employed by INLA is accurate in general and that all software leads to similar results for most of the cases considered. Estimation of the variance components, however, is difficult when their true value is small for all estimation methods and prior specifications. The estimates obtained for all software tend to be biased downward or upward depending on the assumed priors.","PeriodicalId":112598,"journal":{"name":"RMS: Research in Mathematics & Statistics","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116317345","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, insufficient guidance is available about the accuracy and domains-of-validity of some tests that are based on assumptions or approximations. This paper assesses the accuracy of the p-values for three tests of small tables using Monte Carlo simulations and quantile regression. Results for the Fisher-Freeman-Halton exact tests indicate the p-value accuracy depends on the number of possible unique nominal probabilities. Results for the Pearson chi-square test indicate the p-value accuracy depends on the number of possible unique nominal probabilities and the expected cell counts. Results for the Goodman-Kruskal gamma test indicate the p-value accuracy depends on the number of possible unique ordinal probabilities, the expected cell counts, and the total cell counts. Empirical models for the accuracy of these tests and recommended domain-of-validity criteria are provided.","PeriodicalId":112598,"journal":{"name":"RMS: Research in Mathematics & Statistics","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115563486","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Looking for the maximum elbow of the unexplained variance in a kernel density estimation was determined to be insufficient to evidence that data is multimodal. It is shown by theoretical and simulated results that random distributions have similar elbowing behaviour. It is only elbowing, or variance convergence, above the level in random distributions that indicates a mode has been found. However, kernel h-distance and variance by step were together found to be better predictors of confidence intervals of modal data. Confidence intervals of p = 0.1 and p = 0.01 are modelled in equations and can be applied to data with any standard deviation and sample sizes of 12 and over. The methods were tested on data generated from bimodal up to five modes.","PeriodicalId":112598,"journal":{"name":"RMS: Research in Mathematics & Statistics","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128996981","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We suppose that the linear part has a resolvent operator and the nonlinear terms are globally Lipschitzian. We introduce sufficient conditions that ensure the existence and uniqueness of mild solutions by using successive approximation. Moreover, we target exponential stability, including moment exponential stability in -th ( ) and almost surely exponential stability of solutions and their maps. An example illustrates the potential of the main result.","PeriodicalId":112598,"journal":{"name":"RMS: Research in Mathematics & Statistics","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116052532","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The use of auxiliary information incorporated in construction of an estimator under Rank set sampling scheme results in efficient estimation of population mean. In this paper, we propose an efficient generalized family of estimators to estimate finite population mean of study variable under ranked set sampling utilizing information on an auxiliary variable. Bias and Mean Square Error (MSE) of the proposed generalized family of estimators are derived. The conditions of efficiency of proposed generalized family of estimators from competitor estimators are also derived. The applications of estimator are discussed using simulation study and real-life data sets for comparisons of efficiency. It is concluded that when correlation between study and auxiliary variables increases, the proposed generalized family of estimators proves to be the efficient estimator of population mean of the study variable.","PeriodicalId":112598,"journal":{"name":"RMS: Research in Mathematics & Statistics","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130416685","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
