Such an issue becomes a challenge in the multi-channel systems. In this paper we propose two different energy-efficient CSS schemes, namely, Reduced-Energy Sensing Scheme (RESS) and Reduced-Energy Reporting Scheme (RERS). In RESS, the channels that have been identified as occupied will not be sensed for a number of next sensing rounds, while in RERS, only the sensing results of a subset of the sensed channels will be reported channels. In both schemes, the energy and time resources expended in CSS will be saved. Moreover, the saved time will be exploited in data transmission, improving the throughput. Simulation results show a significant improvement in the energy efficiency of multi-channel CSS.","PeriodicalId":111472,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 19th International Workshop on Computer Aided Modeling and Design of Communication Links and Networks (CAMAD)","volume":"264 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116239319","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, network coding-enabled networks are susceptible to pollution attack where a small number of polluted messages will propagate in recoding and corrupt bunches of legitimate messages. Recently, several light weight Homomorphic Message Authentication Code (HMAC) schemes were proposed for protecting the transmitted data against pollution attacks; however, most of them cannot resist tag pollution attacks. This paper presents an improved scheme, called Dual-HMAC, for Random Linear Network Coding (RLNC)-enabled wireless networks. The proposed scheme makes use of two types of tags (i.e., HMACs) to provide resistance against data pollution attacks and partially tag pollution attacks.","PeriodicalId":111472,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 19th International Workshop on Computer Aided Modeling and Design of Communication Links and Networks (CAMAD)","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126173016","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The majority of the state-of-the-art is focused on the downlink offloading, while the change of mobile user habits, like mobile content creation and uploading, makes uplink offloading a rising issue. In this work we focus on the uplink offloading using Ip Flow Mobility (IFOM). IFOM allows a LTE mobile User Equipment (UE) to maintain two concurrent data streams, one through LTE and the other through WiFi access technology, that presents uplink limitations due to the inherent fairness design of IEEE 802.11 DCF. In this paper, we propose a weighted Proportionally Fair Bandwidth (PFB) allocation algorithm, for the WiFi access, in conjunction with a pricing-based rate allocation for the LTE uplink, aiming to improve the energy efficiency of the UEs that operate under the concurrent use of access technologies that IFOM provides. We present a theoretical analysis of the proposed schemes and evaluate their performance in terms of energy efficiency through simulations.","PeriodicalId":111472,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 19th International Workshop on Computer Aided Modeling and Design of Communication Links and Networks (CAMAD)","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128060561","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper focuses on the energy efficiency of IEEE 802.11 network interface. It proposes an energy consumption model that reflects accurately the back off window dynamics under saturation conditions. In addition, all power state levels used by the IEEE 802.11 standard are considered in the analysis. Numerical and simulation results demonstrate that the proposed IEEE 802.11 energy model is more accurate than previous approaches, and it overcomes the modeling limitations of previous works which are becoming more significant in newer versions of IEEE 802.11 standard. Finally, by providing a clearer insight into the backoff factors, the proposed model lends itself to the use of arbitrary (generic) backoff window schemes, allowing the comparison of the energy efficiency of various alternatives for the backoff window growth.","PeriodicalId":111472,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 19th International Workshop on Computer Aided Modeling and Design of Communication Links and Networks (CAMAD)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121357479","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Because of its importance, DNS is usually allowed in security policies. That opens a way to break policies and to transfer data from/to restricted area due to misusage of a DNS infrastructure. This paper is focused on a detection of communication tunnels and other anomalies in a DNS traffic. The proposed detection module is designed to process huge volume of data and to detect anomalies at near real-time. It is based on combination of statistical analysis of several observed features including application layer information. Our aim is a stream-wise processing of huge volume of DNS data from backbone networks. To achieve these objectives with minimal resource consumption, the detection module uses efficient extended data structures. The performance evaluation has shown that the detector is able to process approximately 511 thousand DNS flow records per second. In addition, according to experiments, a tunnel that lasts over 30 seconds can be detected in a minute. During the on-line testing on a real traffic from production network, the module signalized on average over 60 confirmed alerts including DNS tunnels per day.","PeriodicalId":111472,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 19th International Workshop on Computer Aided Modeling and Design of Communication Links and Networks (CAMAD)","volume":"125 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127234361","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this respect, a key challenge consists in finding a proper balance between an opportunistic approach, which aims at maximizing the total amount of carried traffic, and a fairness-based approach that, instead, aims at providing some type of fairness among the users. In this paper, we compare a few resource allocation policies for the downlink channel of LTE networks in terms of aggregate capacity, user fairness, and scheduler complexity. Two schemes are based on the Hungarian method, which was designed to associate exactly one resource to each user, while minimizing the overall cost of the assignment. This method hence provides a nice tradeoff between resource exploitation and user fairness in terms of number of allocated resources. We then propose practical implementations of the Hungarian method that work even when the number of users differs from the number of available resources, and users have heterogenous channel conditions and offered traffic. In addition, we consider a third scheduler that follows a back-pressure approach, which which assignes resources to users with longer backlog in an opportunistic manner, thus pursuing both aggregate throughput maximization and fairness among users with equal traffic demand.","PeriodicalId":111472,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 19th International Workshop on Computer Aided Modeling and Design of Communication Links and Networks (CAMAD)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121516087","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This network level cooperation has been lately been gaining popularity and analytical expressions of the performance of a network with up to two relay nodes exist in recent literature. Currently, energy is produced and distributed under a centralized framework preventing small electricity producers from participating in the electricity market, unless they are part of larger energy associations, the administration of which necessitates the exploitation of new energy and ICT technologies. The VIMSEN project introduces a highly dynamic and distributed market framework, in which new market players will emerge and the current energy market ecosystem will be modified. The framework is primarily based on the concept of Virtual Micro-Grids (VMGs) and on the active participation of renewable energy prosumers. This position paper aims to analyze the VIMSEN ecosystem in a conceptual way and introduce novel market actors as well as their responsibilities that enable the implementation of beyond state-of-the-art ICT frameworks and business models in future liberalized energy markets.","PeriodicalId":111472,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 19th International Workshop on Computer Aided Modeling and Design of Communication Links and Networks (CAMAD)","volume":"10 1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128774120","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The WLAN specifications contain enhanced and coordinated access control mechanisms that can be used to support power saving and QoS, but these are rarely used since the benefits compared to the basic MAC are usually not perceived as sufficient to motivate the complexity. In this paper we are proposing further improvements for energy efficient mobility with preserved QoS, building on top of the existing mechanisms for coordinated access. Thus, they remain largely an untapped networking resource. In this work, a SDN-based network architecture is proposed; it is comprised of a distributed network-wide controller and a novel datapath for wireless access points. Virtualization of network functions is employed for configurable user access control as well as for supporting an IP-independent forwarding scheme. The proposed architecture is a flat network across the deployment area, providing seamless connectivity and reachability without the need of intermediary servers over the Internet, enabling thus a wide variety of localized applications, like for instance video surveillance. Also, the provided interface allows for transparent implementation of intra-network distributed cross-layer traffic control protocols that can optimize the multihop performance of the wireless network.","PeriodicalId":111472,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 19th International Workshop on Computer Aided Modeling and Design of Communication Links and Networks (CAMAD)","volume":"63 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116731924","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
