Aspects tested and examined were primarily: water volume, stocking density, salinity, (frequency of) moulting, starvation, mortality, cannibalism, behavioural aspects (e.g., mobility, intraspecific aggression), larval development, as well as the influence of ground colours. All aspects appeared to influence the duration and success of the larval period, from zoea-I to megalopa, but the main difference was observed to be related to the (water) volume of the culture tanks.","PeriodicalId":10834,"journal":{"name":"Crustaceana","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2023-12-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138996188","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"生物学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These crustaceans have complex digestive systems and open circulatory systems colonized by symbiotic microorganisms that play essential roles in the health, nutrition and disease of crustaceans, attracting considerable interest. The importance of the microbiota for the successful cultivation of animals in captivity is known, however, there is a lack of information about the symbiotic microbiota in different species of lobsters. The aim of this study was to summarize global information on microbiota studies of anatomical sites of lobsters and crayfishes looking for patterns of bacteria that colonize their intestine, hepatopancreas and haemolymph. A systematic review was conducted using “Methodi Ordinatio”. Twenty-five significant articles, from 12 countries, were identified for analysis from the Scopus database. The crustacean genera found were Cherax, Pacifastacus and Procambarus (crayfish); Homarus, Nephrops and Panulirus (lobsters). The intestinal, hepatopancreas and haemolymph microbiota show a wide variety of bacteria influenced by infections affecting the individual, stress caused by changes in the environment, availability and quality of food, period of the year, stage of development and the animal’s sex, among other aspects. The common core bacterial microbiota among crustaceans consist of the genera Acinetobacter, Aeromonas, Candidatus Bacilloplasma, Candidatus Hepatoplasma, Citrobacter, Hafnia, Photobacterium, Pseudomonas, Shewanella and Vibrio. The results broadened our understanding of the microbiota in the intestinal and circulatory systems of crustaceans, the flaws for and needs for standardization of analysis techniques, and the use of a multi-specialized approach for the protection and management of lobsters as a fisheries resource.","PeriodicalId":10834,"journal":{"name":"Crustaceana","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2023-12-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138999385","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"生物学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Globally, the species has been reported from the waters of Australia, South China, Indonesia, the Persian Gulf, and the Bay of Bengal, but no report is available from the Arabian Sea. As Speocarcinus is now known to be a wholly American pseudorhombilid, the generic placement of this Tesch species has been in doubt. Ng (1987) provisionally assigned it to Viaderiana Ward, 1942, but Števčić (2011) decided to place it in a new monotypic genus, Bossacarcinus. The type is a poorly preserved subadult female, and not a male as originally reported. Bossacarcinus celebensis is likely to be a pilumnine, not a rhizopine, and is compared with allied genera like Viaderiana, Ser Rathbun, 1931, Heteropilumnus De Man, 1895, and Xestopilumnus Ng & Dai, 1996.","PeriodicalId":10834,"journal":{"name":"Crustaceana","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2023-12-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138999214","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"生物学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Bathypalaemonella liui sp. nov. is most similar to B. hayashi Komai, 1995 and B. serratipalma Pequegnat, 1970 for the flexor margin of the major second pereopod bearing a row of tubercles. Important morphological characters which differentiate the present new species from B. hayashi and B. serratipalma are the length of the rostrum, which is far exceeding the scaphocerite, and the dactylus of the posterior three pereopods, which only bear one pair of accessory spines. Moreover, the genetic divergences of the COI and 16S rRNA genes from these two congeners analysed, clearly support the new taxon.","PeriodicalId":10834,"journal":{"name":"Crustaceana","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2023-12-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139000007","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"生物学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
