In 1984, with his colleagues from Zagreb he guided a field trip for J. Fulop, T. Szederkenyi and S. Kovacs to the Papuk and Psunj Mts. This trip was followed in 1986 by his first visit to the Bukk Mts. and its surroundings in NE Hungary. In the same year he published his first paper in Acta Geologica Hungarica, in which he summarized the knowledge up to that time of the Variscan metamorphics and granitoids of Slavonian Mountains. This paper was followed by a number of contributions, either by himself or with co-authors, all aiming to trace the continuation of the NW Dinarides and the isolated Slavonian Mountains in the basement of the Pannonian Basin. It was unambigously Jakob Pamic who introduced the term “Tisia” or “Tisza Mega-unit” into Croatian geology, replacing the former “Supradinaricum”, recognizing that the Variscan metamorphic-granitoid complex of the Slavonian Mountains and of the pre-Neogene basement of the Drava–Sava Interfluve are totally exotic elements against the Dinarides. As an outcome of the discussions of terrane correlations within the framework of the Terrane Map Project (IGCP Project 276) on the occasion of the Carpatho-Balkan Geological Congress in Athens in 1995 (published in 1997: Pamic et al. and Kovacs et al.), he proposed to unify the Croatian “Hrvatsko Zagorje-Medimurje”and the Hungarian “MidTransdanubian” terranes and introduced the new term “Zagorje-Mid-Transdanubian” Zone/Terrane (Pamic and Tomljenovic 1998, which was also taken over by Hungarian geologists: Kovacs et al. 2000). This cooperation resulted in a review paper on the Alpine-Dinaridic-Pannonian triple junction area by Croatian, Hungarian and Slovenian geologists that appeared in International Journal of Earth Sciences (Haas et al. 2000). Further tracing the continuation of Inner Dinaridic ophiolitic units toward NE Hungary and SE Slovakia, he proposed the term “Sava–Bukk–Meliata Zone”","PeriodicalId":107929,"journal":{"name":"Acta Geologica Hungarica","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-09-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130073591","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They are spatially and genetically related to Late Permian to Norian rift-related sedimentary formations of the Adriatic-Dinaridic carbonate platform (ADCP). The volcanic and pyroclastic rocks are interlayered with fossiliferous sediments that range between the Late Permian and Middle Norian; the plutonic rocks, which are intrusive into Late Paleozoic and Scythian-Anisian sediments, have radiometric ages ranging between 262 and 212 Ma. Based on major and trace element contents, rocks of the Permo-Triassic magmatic association originated by fractional crystallization from primitive alkalic basalt to olivine tholeiite melts. Volcanic rocks were affected by strong ocean-hydrothermal metamorphism. Initial 87Sr/86Sr ratio of 0.703 and d18O of 5.6‰ of the most primitive rocks indicate an upper mantle origin. The best developed Early Paleozoic complex, which occurs in western Macedonia, is composed of fossiliferous Cambrian metasediments with ophiolites and fossiliferous Ordovician metasediments, interlayered with subordinate metavolcanics and intruded by coeval Ordovician granitoids (461-465 Ma) that were overprinted during the Variscan and Alpine tectonogeneses. The high Na2O and P2O5 contents, relative to the post-Archean Australian average shale (PAAS) and the average Russian Paleozoic shale compositions, are the most striking features of the geochemistry of the Boda sediments. The samples studied are depleted in SiO2, TiO2 and Al2O3, and they are enriched in Fe2O3, MgO, CaO and K2O relative to the PAAS. The major element relations clearly show that the geochemistry of the BSF is strongly affected by post-depositional modification, corresponding to large-scale dispersal or addition of components. On the other hand, relatively high La content, low concentrations of V, Cr, Cu and Ni, and the result of the TiO2 versus Ni plot reflect a relatively felsic provenance of the BSF. The formation is made up of five informal lithologic units, from the base upward the \"main conglomerate\", the \"gravelly sandstone\", the \"pale sandstone\" with \"conglomerate 2\" at its base, then the \"red-brown siltstone and sandstone\" and at the top the \"variegated sandstone\" (units \"a, b, c, d, e\"). Grain size becomes finer upsection, the grains are medium-rounded, and sorting generally improves upward. Planar cross-bedding of varying size is characteristic. A detailed taxonomic review of Gondolella bulgarica, G. hanbulogi and G. bifurcata is given, which are distinguished at species level (following the detailed morphotaxonomic study by Germani 2000), although all morphological transitions between the three taxa are present. They are united into the \"G. bulgarica Group\". Distributions of total heavy metal amounts are determined mostly by the parent material, while the repartition of heavy metals among the soil components is regulated mainly by pedogenic effects. Heavy metals bound to residual phases are almost solely inherited from the parent material. Combined effects are the clay illuviation with different clay mineralogy due to the differences in parent material, as well as the calcareous subsoil resulting from inheritance and secondary carbonate precipitation. In the studied samples the organic matter plays the most decisive role in binding heavy metals. A significant proportion of lead is bound to it, but it also has an effect on copper and nic...","PeriodicalId":107929,"journal":{"name":"Acta Geologica Hungarica","volume":"58 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2004-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126137401","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
