Material and Methods: This transversal epidemiological study with comparative purpose was conducted on 100 diabetic children aged 2 to 16 years followed in the service of the University Hospital of Pediatrics II HAROUCHI and within the association “Hayat” to support children with diabetes, and 100 healthy model children aged 3-15 years from two public schools and one private school. Through a questioning and an oral examination, the parameters of diabetes, oral and dental hygiene, and the dental status were determined. Results: The DMF index was more pronounced in the patient group (2.933) than in the control group (1.798) with a statistically significant difference (p = 0.002). The mean Plaque index was 1.338 for the patient group versus 1.542 for the control group. In the group of sick children and tartar was present in 62% of cases. Conclusion: In the waning of this study, it was shown that diabetes has a significant impact on teeth and oral health of children. Following these results, the oral care needs are high among the population of children with diabetes.","PeriodicalId":106996,"journal":{"name":"Interventions in Pediatric Dentistry Open Access Journal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-02-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132889224","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There is a need for detailed assessment and provision of good dental care following the diagnosis of chronic renal failure (CRF). Hence, regular clinical review is important for the early identification of oral complications of renal disease. Aim: The present study was carried out at Pediatric Nephrology Unit in Zigzag University Hospital to evaluate the dental health status in CRF children. Design: The dental health status of 50 children under 15 years suffering from CRF were compared results to the results of an age and sex matched control group (n=50). This study was done to evaluate enamel hypoplasia, dmft, DMFT, Gingival Index (GI), Plaque Index (PI), intrinsic and extrinsic stain and the changes in oral microflora including salivary Calcium, phosphorus, alkaline phosphatase and urea concentrations were measured using phenol Sulphur acid colorimetric method. The estimated stimulated salivary pH, buffering capacity and count of Streptococcal Mutants and lactobacilli were determined on selective media of all participants. Results: The study and control groups did not significantly differ in daily tooth brushing frequency and periodic dental check up frequency. Severe enamel hypoplasia was present in study group. The means of dmft, DMFT and PI were significantly greater in the study group (p<0.05). The differences among groups for GI were statistically insignificant. Our findings of intrinsic brown staining were 22% and 20% extrinsic staining of patients. Conclusion: The salivary pH of patients and salivary levels of cariogenic S. mutans and lactobacilli in the study group were significantly lower than the control group, probably due to increased concentrations of antibacterial chemicals such as urea in the saliva of CRF children. The presence of uremia during the development of dentitions cause Intrinsic staining but black brown extrinsic staining due to using ferrous sulfate syrup for treatment CRF children anemia. Although dental treatment need is not high, these children should receive dental health education, including oral hygiene instruction, in order to improve their overall oral health.","PeriodicalId":106996,"journal":{"name":"Interventions in Pediatric Dentistry Open Access Journal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-02-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130290646","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The demand of tooth bleaching is increasing day by day and it has become the treatment of choice for tooth discoloration. If there is deposition of chromatogenic material into dentin and enamel during the tooth development stage or after eruption, it leads to intrinsic tooth discoloration [1]. Among various bleaching techniques for intrinsic tooth discoloration, vital and non-vital bleaching techniques are common one. They use oxidizing agents such as hydrogen peroxide to remove intrinsic stains. They are widely used agents as they have safe to use. These properties have made them popular. Further modifications in these agents have opened multiple options for dentists in managing tooth discoloration [2]. Carbamide peroxide (CP) is a perhydrol-urea and hydrogen peroxide carbamide compound which degrades to urea and hydrogen peroxide. This agent with ‘‘night guard’’ bleaching technique, have proved effective and efficient in providing good results. However, altered surface morphology, decreased microhardness and loss of dental hard tissue volume are among few side effects of bleaching as shown by various authors. 10% CP has been proved to decrease the enamel microhardness as compared to higher level [3]. However, a study performed by Potocnik et al. [4] found that 10% CP causes local microstructural changes and there is no affect on enamel microhardness. 10% CP is a safest bleaching agent as demineralization is not clinical evident, moreover, it is soon followed by remineralization. Fluoridated bleaching agents are considered to reduce the adverse effects of tooth whitening. Topical fluoride is used to increase the hardness and acid resistance of demineralized teeth. It may be used in tooth sensitivity peripherally by occluding the dentinal tubules and reducing dentinal fluid flow. Hence, fluoride application may be used for treating post-bleaching sensitivity [5]. The present study was conducted to assess the effects of bleaching agents with and without fluoride as well as the post-bleaching fluoridation on bovine surface enamel.","PeriodicalId":106996,"journal":{"name":"Interventions in Pediatric Dentistry Open Access Journal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125429028","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
