These events have a long occurrence interval, and their event deposits, which are preserved for a long time, are the key to revealing their real image. In Beppu Bay, event deposit research began with active fault studies in the 1980s, and it has subsequently been conducted by many researchers and from several perspectives. This accumulated knowledge has been revealing not only the paleo-event records but also their complicated recording processes. It is important for the development of event deposit analysis to understand all recording processes, by combining these event deposit records with paleo environmental information, ancient docu-ment records, and prospective simulations.","PeriodicalId":106287,"journal":{"name":"The Quaternary Research (daiyonki-kenkyu)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130238025","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, chronology of marine terraces along other parts of the coast has not progressed until now because of lack of tephra layering. In addition, distribution of flat surfaces previously interpreted as marine terraces is fragmentary along the southern Sanriku coast. These geomorphological and geological studies suggest that the Sanriku coast should be seg-mented into multiple deformation areas when assessing crustal deformation related to a megathrust earthquake. For the segmentation of crustal deformation area, continuing analyses of incised valley fill succession and reconsideration of the origin and chronology of flat surfaces previously interpreted as marine terraces are needed. OSL dating method is expected to clarify the formation age of marine terraces distributed along the Sanriku coast.","PeriodicalId":106287,"journal":{"name":"The Quaternary Research (daiyonki-kenkyu)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130090969","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
