Applying this analytical levitation force model, the real-time observation of magnetic levitation force is realized, the closed-loop control of levitation force is then implemented on the basis of air-gap-flux-oriented decoupling control system of the bearingless motor. Simulation study verifies the effectiveness of the approach in improving the static and dynamic performance of an induction-type bearingless motor.","PeriodicalId":106054,"journal":{"name":"The Fifth International Conference on Power Electronics and Drive Systems, 2003. This paper focuses on using a new control tool called dSPACE/sup /spl trade// for controlling the switch mode power supply. Programming the control circuit via MATLAB/Simulink/sup /spl trade// can be made. The prototype of the basic three converters buck, boost, and buck-boost can be controlled by the simulation model via real time hardware. Buck-boost converter was chosen as our prototype converter. The sliding mode control (SMC) was chosen as a control algorithm in MATLAB/Simulink/sup /spl trade// for controlling the buck-boost prototype model. The reason behind choosing SMC is that it is an efficient control and simple to implement in MATLAB/Simulink/sup /spl trade//. The paper shows that the control algorithm represented by SMC in MATLAB/Simulink/sup /spl trade// and using the dSPACE/sup /spl trade// as control toolbox is able to control the prototype model.","PeriodicalId":106054,"journal":{"name":"The Fifth International Conference on Power Electronics and Drive Systems, 2003. A new kind of definition formula of power factor, which is suitable under arbitrary waveform voltage and current in single-phase system, is proposed. In this definition, power factor is defined as the product of virtual value similarity factor and phase similarity factor. Conventional power factor definition is only a special case of new definition. This definition suits not only steady state but also transient state.","PeriodicalId":106054,"journal":{"name":"The Fifth International Conference on Power Electronics and Drive Systems, 2003. Multilevel inversion is achieved by feeding an open-end winding induction motor with an asymmetrical 3-level inverter from one end and a 2-level inverter, from the other end. The combined inverter system with open-end winding induction motor produces voltage space vector locations identical to a 5-level inverter. A total of 512-space vector combinations are distributed over 61 space vector locations in the proposed scheme. The proposed inverter drive scheme is capable of producing a multilevel PWM waveform for the phase voltage ranging from a 2-level waveform to a 5-level waveform depending on the depth of modulation.","PeriodicalId":106054,"journal":{"name":"The Fifth International Conference on Power Electronics and Drive Systems, 2003. The system includes a direct rotor flux oriented (DFOC) induction machine drive, which is operated in both motoring and generating modes (i.e. starter and alternator modes). During starting, the induction machine cranks the engine, which is emulated using permanent magnet DC motor, with high starting torque. In the generation mode, the power is input to the ISA from emulated engine while the DC bus voltage is maintained at 42 V. The model and prototype hardware successfully allow many operational aspects to be predicted, in particularly the regulated DC voltage developed by ISA during load dump and sudden speed change.","PeriodicalId":106054,"journal":{"name":"The Fifth International Conference on Power Electronics and Drive Systems, 2003. Novel current-sensing and current-sharing techniques are applied. In the interface circuit the output currents of the paralleled power modules are sensed by measuring the inductor voltage drops and shared under a hysteresis current control based on the minimum current. Not only good current-sharing performance but also low power dissipation with low cost can be achieved when the parallel power module system utilizes the proposed interface circuit. A prototype of the current-sharing interface circuit for three paralleled power modules is implemented. The experimental results are in good agreement with the theoretical analyses.","PeriodicalId":106054,"journal":{"name":"The Fifth International Conference on Power Electronics and Drive Systems, 2003. Using the induction machine equations in the stator two-phase stationary reference frame, based on partial feedback linearization control method, the sliding mode speed and rotor flux controllers are derived first. These controllers guarantee the asymptotic tracking of the pre-specified speed and rotor flux command references in spite of the motor parameter uncertainties and load torque disturbance. Then, the sliding mode flux observers are developed to estimate speed, rotor time constant and the rotor flux quantities simultaneously. In addition, to satisfy the persistent excitation (P.E) condition, an ac signal component is superimposed to the rotor flux reference command. Finally, a digital simulation study is carried out and some simulation results are presented to show the validation the effectiveness of the proposed control approach.","PeriodicalId":106054,"journal":{"name":"The Fifth International Conference on Power Electronics and Drive Systems, 2003. In such applications, the inverter must be capable of operating with low total harmonic distortion (THD) and quick transient response. This paper and its companion paper present two promising control methods based on neural networks. This paper presents a novel neural network-based adaptive controller for high performance single-phase inverters capable of maintaining a high quality output voltage with very low THD of less than 2% in the presence of unknown loads, either linear or nonlinear. In the proposed scheme, a voltage source inverter with its corresponding LC load-filter is controlled by an adaptive linear neuron (ADALINE) controller with only one sensor. The on-line adaptive learning algorithm developed in this paper guarantees steady-state controller stability. The principle, stability, robustness, and the special features of the control scheme are discussed. The scheme is simple to implement and has superior performance compared to other popular control strategies, such as the dead-beat controller. An important merit of the proposed control scheme is that it can be designed and implemented without knowing the exact parameters of the PWM inverter system. Simulation and experimental results are presented to verify the feasibility and performance of proposed approach.","PeriodicalId":106054,"journal":{"name":"The Fifth International Conference on Power Electronics and Drive Systems, 2003.
