Thyroglossal duct cysts are a commonly found aberration during the development of the thyroid gland. The prevalence of adenotonsillar hypertrophy is greater than that of branchial cleft abnormalities, and among the pediatric population, it is the second most common cause of neck masses, surpassed only by enlarged cervical lymph nodes. In specific instances, thyroglossal duct cysts have been seen to exhibit a low prevalence of cancer. The diagnosis of thyroglossal duct cancer is commonly made by histological examination of the tumor. In addition, needle aspiration cytology, ultrasonography, and computed tomography are employed as diagnostic tools to differentiate malignant patients from alternative potential diagnosis.","PeriodicalId":105579,"journal":{"name":"SAR Journal of Surgery","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126866678","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the present scenarios, the preferred reconstructive modalities involve the utilization of regional pedicled flaps or free tissue transfers. The utilization of flaps originating from the temporalis muscle, fascia, or a combination of them, was initially documented by Yolovine in the year 1898. Subsequently, Murphy employed these flaps in 1914 for surgical interventions targeting the temporomandibular joints (TMJ). Subsequent to their initial utilization, axial flaps predicated upon the middle and deep temporal vessels have been subject to extensive and comprehensive deployment. This study seeks to provide a comprehensive understanding of the temporalis flap procedure, its indications, outcomes, and potential complications by analyzing a single case and conducting an exhaustive literature review.","PeriodicalId":105579,"journal":{"name":"SAR Journal of Surgery","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122784292","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Canine species have been identified as the primary source of the majority of bite injuries in the human population, the spectrum of injuries encompasses a range of traumatic manifestations, which may encompass uncomplicated lacerations or punctures, as well as more complex avulsions characterized by the presence or absence of accompanying tissue. The anatomical regions most frequently affected by the condition under investigation include the buccal region, nasal area, and labial region. The acquisition of comprehensive data regarding the vaccination status of both the animal and the patient is of paramount significance in the realm of medical research. Furthermore, it is imperative to duly administer prophylactic measures such as tetanus or rabies prophylaxis, contingent up on the presence of any indications warranting such interventions. The aforementioned wounds necessitate comprehensive assessment, meticulous cleansing, and, on occasion, surgical debridement or reconstruction within the confines of the operating theater. The selection of the appropriate reparative intervention is contingent upon a comprehensive assessment of the precise anatomical site and magnitude of the inflicted trauma, thereby encompassing a spectrum of potential modalities including primary closure, microsurgical replantation, dermal grafting, tissue flaps, and in rare instances, facial allograft transplantation.","PeriodicalId":105579,"journal":{"name":"SAR Journal of Surgery","volume":"150 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125251605","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Like all diseases associated with care, its prognosis is often severe, marked by high morbidity, prolonged stays in intensive care and in hospital, and potentially serious sequelae. Material and Methods: This is a retrospective study of patients operated on in the visceral surgical emergency department with a passage to the visceral surgical emergency department for postoperative peritonitis from January 2021 to November 2022. Results: From January 2021 to November 2022 we operated 1493 patients including 14 postoperative peritonitis, i.e. 0.9%. Among the 14 patients: 4 were women (28.6%) and 10 were men (71.4%) with a sex ratio of 2.5. Occlusions were the dominant pathology. The multivariate analysis showed a significant relationship between age, delay before consultation and the occurrence of complications. Conclusion: PPO still have a high mortality but which continues to decrease thanks to an effective medical and surgical management.","PeriodicalId":105579,"journal":{"name":"SAR Journal of Surgery","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122605441","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Plaque is made up of deposits of cholesterol and other substances in the artery. Plaque buildup causes the inside of the arteries to narrow over time, which could partially or totally block the blood flow. This process is called atherosclerosis. Coronary artery disease (CAD), when get worst, it is known as coronary artery syndrome (CAS). There are many allopathic medications which can stop, even at starting points of the disease (CAD). Hypolipidemic drugs like statins, fibrates, resins and niacin are well known agents used for prevention of CAD. There are ethnic-based medicinal herbs which can be used to treat or prevent CAD with narrow to moderate range of statistical significance. We compared Rosuvastatin 10 mg with Indian dates (Jujubes) as hypolipidemic agents. This research was conducted at Ghurki Trust Teaching Hospital, jalo park, Lahore, Pakistan. Duration of study was two months. Twenty to seventy years old 60 hyperlipidemic patients of both gender were included in research work with written consent. We divided these patients in two equal groups. Group-I was advised to take Tablet Rosuvastatin 10 mg, twice daily for two months. Group-II was advised to take 500 grams Indian dates for two months. Their baseline parameters like LDL-cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol, systolic/diastolic blood pressure was determined in the hospital laboratory. Separate file was maintained for their name, age, sex, occupation, and address. After two months therapy we compiled data related to tested parameters. Paired t-test was applied to compare changes in all parameters. Their mean values with ± SD before and after treatment were compared and analyzed statistically. It was observed that Rosuvastatin significantly decreased systolic/diastolic blood pressure, LDL-cholesterol, and increased HDL-cholesterol in 27 hyperlipidemic/hypertensive patients. Indian dates used in 30 hyperlipidemic patients significantly decreased systolic blood pressure, and LDL-cholesterol, but insignificant changes were seen in diastolic blood pressure, and HDL-cholesterol. We concluded from the research work that Rosuvastatin is potent hypolipidemic and hypotensive medicine as compared to indian dates.","PeriodicalId":105579,"journal":{"name":"SAR Journal of Surgery","volume":"104 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134459808","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

When three-dimensional facial analysis is made, the chin becomes an important part within the same since it can significantly alter the symmetry, balance, and facial shape. We present a report of A 26 year old female reported with complaints of facial asymmery. On examination she had facial asymmetry with deviation of chin to her left side. Her radiograph (OPG) revealed hypoplasia on the left side of mandible and (lateral cephalogram) with severe chin retrusion. Further evaluation with CT confirmed her diagnosis of Hemifacial microsomia. She was planned for osseous sliding genioplasty procedure under general anesthesia It provide obvious and satisfactory outcome in severe chin deformity which seem very concerning and may seem to include other complex osteotomies. Hence with proper planning and asessment, prioratising patients chiefcomplaint genioplasty can give very satisfactory outcome.","PeriodicalId":105579,"journal":{"name":"SAR Journal of Surgery","volume":"2013 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128010350","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

No uniform criteria to define a clear surgical margin exist among practicing surgeons. This study intends to find the adequacy of surgical margin marking intraoperatively by Lugol’s iodine solution considering the frozen section method for oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). Intraoperative staining with Lugol’s iodine and Frozen section analysis of margins of the surgical bed was negative in anterior, superior, and inferior specimens in all the cases, except in one case (4.3%), a posterior margin was found to be positive (unstained) for tumor. The chi-square value of the Lugol’s stained margins following resection of the tumor and negative results of frozen section analysis of the same was found to be statistically significant with the P value <0.001. Hence, we conclude that Lugol’s iodine helps in obtaining a clear surgical margin intra-operatively where inter-surgeons bias/judgment errors regarding safe margin can be avoided, especially in cases where the frozen section is not feasible.","PeriodicalId":105579,"journal":{"name":"SAR Journal of Surgery","volume":"72 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127197570","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
